In situ measurements of gas-liquid surface reactions of single aerosol microdroplets are presented. By means of optical levitation in combination with elastic (Mie) and inelastic (Raman) light scattering it is possible to get information on the chemistry of e.g. acid/base reactions as well as the physical behavior of single microparticles.  相似文献

Abstract The relative UV sensitivities of alfalfa seedlings grown outdoors versus plants grown in a growth chamber under UV-filtered cool white fluorescent bulbs have been determined using three criteria: (1) level of endogenous DNA damage as sites for the UV endonuclease from Micrococcus luteus . (2) susceptibility to pyrimidine dimer induction by a UV challenge exposure and (3) ability to repair UV-induced damage. We find that outdoor-grown plants contain approximately equal frequencies of endogenous DNA damages, are less susceptible to dimer induction by a challenge exposure of broad-spectrum UV and photorepair dimers more rapidly than plants grown in an environmental chamber under cool white fluorescent lamps plus a filter that removes most UV radiation. These data suggest that plants grown in a natural environment would be less sensitive to UVB-induced damage than would be predicted on the basis of studies on plants grown under minimum UV.  相似文献

We consider a second-order differential equation −y + q(x)y(x) = λy(x) with complex-valued potential q and eigenvalue parameter λ ∈ ℂ. In PT quantum mechanics the potential q is given by q(x) = −(ix)N+2 on a contour Γ ⊂ ℂ. Via a parametrization we obtain two differential equations on [0, ∞) and (−∞, 0]. The maximum length of DNA molecules that can be separated by gel electrophoresis can be increased greatly by periodically altering the direction of the electric field with respect to the gel by an angle that exceeds 90 degrees. One method involves rotating the gel by the desired angle in alternate directions periodically during electrophoresis. We describe a modification of the rotating gel electrophoresis apparatus developed by Serwer (Electrophoresis 1987, 8, 301-304) that uses a pneumatic rotary actuator instead of a stepping motor, hence reducing the cost by about 50%. Other advantages of our design are a lower center of gravity that makes the apparatus more stable and the removal of all electrical power from beneath the fluid-filled electrophoresis chamber. We present data demonstrating the separation of chromosomal length DNA molecules from Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain 334 into 14 resolved bands in parallel lanes.  相似文献

We introduce the notion of spectralizable operators. A closed operator A in a Hilbert space is called spectralizable if there exists a non-constant polynomial p such that the operator p(A) is a scalar spectral operator in the sense of Dunford. We show that such operators belongs to the class of generalized spectral operators and give some examples where spectralizable operators occur naturally. Cauchy problems for a second order linear differential operator equation
in a Hilbert space H are studied. Equations of this kind arise for example in elasticity and hydrodynamics. It is assumed that A 0 is a uniformly positive operator and that A 0−1/2 DA 0−1/2 is a bounded accretive operator in H. The location of the spectrum of the corresponding semigroup generator is described and sufficient conditions for analyticity are given.  相似文献

We consider the Sturm–Liouville problem (1.1) and (1.2) with a potential depending rationally on the eigenvalue parameter. With these equations a λ ‐linear eigenvalue problem is associated in such a way that L2‐solutions of (1.1), (1.2) correspond to eigenvectors of a linear operator. If the functions q and u are real and satisfy some additional conditions, the corresponding linear operator is a definitizable self‐adjoint operator in some Krein space. Moreover we consider the problem (1.1) and (1.3) on the positive half‐axis. Here we use results on the absense of positive eigenvalues for Sturm–Liouville operators to exclude critical points of the associated definitizable operator. (© 2007 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
