Synthesis and biological activities of analogs of a lipid A biosynthetic precursor: 1-O-phosphonooxyethyl-4'-O-phosphono-disaccharides with (R)-3-hydroxytetradecanoyl or tetradecanoyl groups at positions 2, 3, 2' and 3'.

Two novel analogs of a biosynthetic precursor of lipid A (2) were synthesized. The one analog (3) has acyl groups identical to those of 2, and the other (4) has tetradecanoyl groups in place of the (R)-3-hydroxytetradecanoyl groups of 2. Both 3 and 4 possess an alpha-glycosidically-bound phosphonooxyethyl group in place of the alpha-glycosyl phosphate group of 2. Compounds 3 and 4 exhibited definite antitumor activity against Meth A fibrosarcoma and low toxicity in rabbits, as the original compound 2 does. The replacement of the hydroxytetradecanoyl groups with tetradecanoyl groups barely affected the antitumor activity, but slightly enhanced the toxicity in rabbits.     

W(CO)5(L)-catalyzed formal cope rearrangement of allenyl silyl enol ethers

[reaction: see text] On treatment of 5-siloxyhexa-1,2,5-trienes with a catalytic amount of W(CO)(6) under photoirradiation, formal Cope rearrangement proceeded to give 2-siloxyhex-1-en-5-ynes in good yield. The electrophilic activation of the allenyl moiety by W(CO)(5) triggers the intramolecular attack of the silyl enol ether in a 6-endo manner to produce a cyclohexenyl tungsten species. Carbon-carbon bond cleavage occurs by electron donation from the anionic W(CO)(5) into the silyloxonium moiety to afford the products with regeneration of the W(CO)(5)(L).     

Indium-mediated beta-allylation,beta-propargylation,and beta-allenylation onto alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones: reactions of in-situ-generated 3-tert-butyldimethylsilyloxyalk-2-enylsulfonium salts with in-situ-generated organoindium reagents

3-tert-Butyldimethylsilyloxyalk-2-enylsulfonium salts, generated in situ from the reaction of alpha,beta-enones with dimethyl sulfide in the presence of TBSOTf, underwent a novel nucleophilic substitution with allylindiums to give silyl enol ethers of delta,epsilon-alkenyl ketones in good yields, which correspond to formal Michael addition products. In a similar manner, 1,4-propargylation of propargylindiums onto the sulfonium salts produced the corresponding silyl enol ethers of delta,epsilon-alkynyl ketones in good yields. Organoindium reagents derived from gamma-substituted propargyl bromide and indium afforded the corresponding silyl enol ethers of beta-allenyl ketones in good yields. The reaction proceeds via an addition-substitution mechanism involving the formation of allylic sulfonium salts. The presence of the intermediate sulfonium salt was confirmed by observation of the low-temperature (1)H NMR spectra.     

Imaging of the bronchial blood flow usingg RI-angiography--study on its procedure and application of dual radioisotope technique (author's transl)

RI-angiography with 99mTcO4- was carried out using a scintillation camera with a digital minicomputer for the purpose of imaging of bronchial blood flow in various lung diseases, and as application of dual radioisotope techniques, other imagings such as tumor imaging with 197HgCl2 or 67Ga-citrate and/or perfusion imaging with 99mTc-MAA, were performed simultaneously in patients remaining the same position, too. The image as a iso-count map extracted out of the image of 197HgCl2, 67Ga-citrate or 99mTc-MAA, was superimposed to the brightness image of RI-anigogram (aortic phase). By these procedures, the image of bronchial blood flow were obtained in some patients with lung cancer, pulmonary tuberculosis, lung abscess, and chronic bronchitis. The dual radioisotope techniques using RI-angiography and the other imaging were useful to make isotope diagnosis of lung diseases more reliable, and the image superimposition methods using RI-angiogram and the image of tumor or perfusion, were useful to improve anatomic orientation of the former.     

W(CO)5(L)-catalyzed endo-selective cyclization of allenyl silyl enol ethers: an efficient method for the cyclopentene annulation onto alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones

[reaction: see text] Indium-mediated allenylation of alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones in the presence of tert-butyldimethylsilyl triflate and dimethyl sulfide gives 6-siloxy-1,2,5-trienes, which undergo W(CO)(5)(L)-catalyzed 5-endo cyclization to give the corresponding cyclopentene derivatives in good yield. Furthermore, this novel W(CO)(5)(L)-catalyzed cyclization of allenyl silyl enol ethers proceeds in a 6-endo manner when 5-siloxy-1,2,5-trienes are employed as a substrate. In these reactions, effective electrophilic activation of allenyl compounds for attack by silyl enol ethers is achieved using a catalytic amount of W(CO)(6).     

Effect of amount of monomer on radiation-induced polymerization of styrene adsorbed on silica gel

The effect of amount of monomer on radiation-induced polymerization of styrene adsorbed on silica gel was investigated with the monomer amounting from less than monolayer adsorption to more than the equilibrium adsorption. The rate of graft polymerization and the molecular weight of the polymer changed with the amount of monomer adsorbed on silica gel. Maximum grafting efficiency was obtained at monolayer adsorption. The molecular weight of graft polymer was higher than that of homopolymer in both radical and cationic polymerizations, and the ratio in molecular weight of graft polymer to that of homopolymer tends to be unity with increasing amount of adsorbed monomer. These results can mainly be explained in terms of the number of initiating species (radical and cation) that change in relation to the amount of adsorbed monomer. Propagation and termination change with amount of adsorbed monomer in relation to the molecular mobility of adsorbed monomer. A very high-molecular-weight graft polymer is formed only with a small amount of adsorbed monomer in the initial stage. The grafting percent with a large amount of adsorbed monomer increased after most of the monomer has been polymerized. Secondary effect of radiation on the graft and homopolymers due to energy transfer from silica gel is suggested from the complicated phenomena in the later stage of the reaction.     

Observation of nonlinear coupling between small-poloidal wave-number potential fluctuations and turbulent potential fluctuations in Ohmically heated plasmas in the JFT-2M tokamak

Two types of electrostatic modes with small-poloidal wave numbers (approximately 1 and 10-15 kHz) are observed in the edge region of Ohmically heated plasmas in the JFT-2M tokamak. The envelope of the higher frequency coherent mode is modulated at the frequency of the lower frequency mode. A bispectral analysis revealed that a significant nonlinear coupling among the two types of fluctuations and the broadband background turbulent potential fluctuations occurs inside the last closed magnetic flux surface, suggesting that a nonlinear process such as the parametric-modulational instability is involved.     

Platinum(II)-catalyzed reaction of 2-alkynylbenzoates or benzothioates with vinyl ethers: a concise method for synthesis of 1-acyl-4-alkoxy- or 1-acyl-4-alkylsulfanylnaphthalene derivatives

[reaction: see text] A concise method for the preparation of 1-acyl-4-alkoxy- or 1-acyl-4-alkylsulfanylnaphthalenes has been developed by the reaction of o-ethynylbenzoates or benzothioates with vinyl ethers, in the presence of a catalytic amount of PtCl(2). It is proposed that the reaction proceeds through [3 + 2]-cycloaddition of the platinum-containing carbonyl ylides followed by 1,2-alkyl migration.
