High spin states in120Xe

High spin states in ¹²⁰Xe, populated via¹⁰⁷Ag(¹⁶O, p2n) and¹⁰⁸Pd(¹⁶O, 4n)reactions have been studied using γ-ray spectroscopic techniques. 21 new transitions have been added to extend the level scheme. Two S-bands are extended upto 26⁺ and 22⁺;these bands are found to cross the g. s band at hΩ=0. 39 and 0. 47 MeV. The band structures have been discussed within the framework of CSM.     

Best Approximation on Convex Sets in Metric Linear Spaces

In this paper the concepts of strictly convex and uniformly convex normed linear spaces are extended to metric linear spaces. A relationship between strict convexity and uniform convexity is established. Some existence and uniqueness theorems on best approximation in metric linear spaces under different conditions are proved.     

Mechanistic insight into the structure and dynamics of entangled and hydrated λ-phage DNA

Intrinsic dynamics of DNA plays a crucial role in DNA-protein interactions and has been emphasized as a possible key component for in vivo chromatin organization. We have prepared an entangled DNA microtube above the overlap concentration by exploiting the complementary cohesive ends of λ-phage DNA, which is confirmed by atomic force microscopy and agarose gel electrophoresis. Photon correlation spectroscopy further confirmed that the entangled solutions are found to exhibit the classical hydrodynamics of a single chain segment on length scales smaller than the hydrodynamic length scale of single λ-phage DNA molecule. We also observed that in 41.6% (gm water/gm DNA) hydrated state, λ-phage DNA exhibits a dynamic transition temperature (T(dt)) at 187 K and a crossover temperature (T(c)) at 246 K. Computational insight reveals that the observed structure and dynamics of entangled λ-phage DNA are distinctively different from the behavior of the corresponding unentangled DNA with open cohesive ends, which is reminiscent with our experimental observation.     

High spin states in 121Te

High spin states of ¹²¹Te, populated in the ¹¹⁴Cd (¹¹B, p3n) reaction, have been studied through γ-ray spectroscopy. The level scheme has been established up to J^π = 51/2^?. Three-quasiparticle states, based on the ^πg _7/2 ² ? vh_11/2 and πg _7/2d_5/2 ? vh_11/2 configurations, have been identified. A favoured 39/2^? state is suggested to be the fully aligned [πg_7/2 ²]6 + ? [vh _11/2 ³]_27/2? yrast non-collective oblate configuration. This assignment is supported by Total Routhian Surface (TRS) calculations which also suggest a similar oblate assignment to the states at J^π = 21/2^? and 23/2^?. A higher 47/2^? state is also found and is suggested to be the fully aligned [πg_7/2 ²]₆+ ? [vh _11/2 ⁵]_35/2? configuration.     

Trimethylsilyl bis(Fluorosulfonyl)imide : An Efficient Catalyst for the Addition of Trimethylsilyl Cyanide to Carbonyl Compounds

In the presence of 1 mol% of trimethylsilyl bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide, trimethylsilyl cyanide adds efficiently to carbonyl compounds. The catalyst has been found to be more active than trimethylsilyl triflate for the above reaction.     

Highly efficient CuI-catalyzed coupling of aryl bromides with oxazolidinones using Buchwald's protocol: a short route to linezolid and toloxatone

[reaction: see text] Coupling of a variety of substituted aryl bromides with oxazolidinones has been achieved using the Buchwald protocol for the amidation of aryl halides. This procedure is exemplified by the synthesis of two medicinally important molecules, linezolid and toloxatone.     

Origin of 1,3-induction in the addition of alkyl lithium to imines bearing an N-stereogenic center

The origin of diastereoselectivity in the addition of alkyl lithium to chiral Schiff bases has been investigated experimentally and theoretically and the formation of the major diastereomer can be explained from the energy minimized structure of the Schiff base in which the phenyl group has been found to orient in such a manner that it posed lesser steric hindrance to the incoming nucleophile as compared to the alkyl group.
