Base mediated synthesis of α-aminated aroyl/acetylnaphthalenes through [4+2] annulations

We have developed a base promoted simple, efficient and alternative approach for the synthesis of 4-amino-3-aroyl//heteroaroyl/acetyl-2-methylsulfanyl-naphthalene-1-carbonitriles by reaction of easily accessible 3,3-bis(methylthio)-1-aryl/heteroaryl/acetylprop-2-en-1-one and 2-cyanomethyl-benzonitrile. Reaction of 1-(2-halo/methoxy-phenyl)-3,3-bis(methylthio)prop-2-en-1-one and 2-cyanomethyl-benzonitrile under basic conditions also afforded 6-(methylthio)-7-oxo-7,12-dihydrobenzo[c]acridine-5-carbonitrile along with usual product. Structure of the synthesized product has been confirmed by single X-ray crystallography.     

Pyrochlore “dynamic spin-ice” Pr2Sn2O7 and monoclinic Pr2Ti2O7: A comparative temperature-dependent Raman study

Here we report a temperature-dependent Raman study of the pyrochlore “dynamic spin-ice” compound Pr₂Sn₂O₇ and compare the results with its non-pyrochlore (monoclinic) counterpart Pr₂Ti₂O₇. In addition to phonon modes, we observe two bands associated with electronic Raman scattering involving crystal field transitions in Pr₂Sn₂O₇ at ∼135 and 460 cm⁻¹ which couple strongly to phonons. Anomalous temperature dependence of phonon frequencies that are observed in pyrochlore Pr₂Sn₂O₇ are absent in monoclinic Pr₂Ti₂O₇. This, therefore, confirms that the strong phonon-phonon anharmonic interactions, responsible for the temperature-dependent anomalous behavior of phonons, arise due to the inherent vacant sites in the pyrochlore structure.     

Clionasterol Glucoside and Acylated Clionasterol Glucosides from Oplismenus burmannii

A new clionasterol glucoside, clionasterol‐[(1'→3α)‐O‐β‐D]‐glucopyranoside ( 1 ), a new acylated clionasterol glucoside, clionasterol‐[6'‐O‐acyl‐(1'→3β)‐O‐b‐D]‐glucopyranoside ( 2 ) and clionasterol ( 3 ) were isolated from the aerial parts of Oplismenus burmannii. The nature and length of fatty acid acyl chains in 2 was identified by alkaline methanolysis of compound 2 . The aglycone fraction on GC‐MS analysis showed three peaks in GC at t_R 49.86 (82.1%), 51.13 (13.3%) and 56.53 (4.6%) min, which were characterized as arachidic acid methyl ester ( a ) oleic acid methyl ester ( b ) and 12‐methyltetradecanoic acid methyl ester ( c ) respectively. Thus 2 was characterized as a mixture of three new compounds, clionasterol‐[6'‐O‐eicosanoyl‐(1'→3β)‐O‐β‐D]‐glucopyranoside ( 2a ), clionasterol‐[6'‐O‐(8Z)‐octa‐deca‐9‐enoyl‐(1'→3β)‐O‐β‐D]‐glucopyranoside ( 2b ) and clionasterol‐[6'‐O‐(12‐methyltetradecanoyl)‐(1'→3β)‐O‐β‐D]‐glucopyranoside ( 2c ).     

Some Simple Derivations of k[x,y]

It is shown that the derivation y ^r ? _x  + (xy ^s  + g)? _y , where 0 ≤ r < s are integers, is a simple derivation of k[x, y], the polynomial ring in two variables over a field k of characteristic zero.
