Some features of the production of heavy-quark-containing baryons in electron-positron collisions

The production of various heavy-quark-containing baryons in electron-positron annihilation is considered. On the basis of exact formulas that we obtained previously within full perturbation theory, new numerical calculations of the respective cross sections are performed, and simple approximate expressions are then constructed for the results of these calculations. The dependence of the total cross sections on the masses of constituent quarks is discussed. The application of the Peterson fragmentation function and a Reggeon-type fragmentation function to describing differential cross sections is analyzed.     

Mass spectra in the doubly symmetric theory of infinite-component fields

We consider the problem of the characteristics of mass spectra in the doubly symmetric theory of fields transforming under the proper Lorentz group representations decomposable into an infinite direct sum of finite-dimensional irreducible representations. We show that there exists a range of free parameters of the theory where the mass spectra of fermions are quite satisfactory from the physical standpoint and correspond to the picture expected in the parton model of hadrons.Translated from Teoreticheskaya i Matematicheskaya Fizika, Vol. 142, No. 1, pp. 21–36, January, 2005.     

The Solar Neutrino Problem as Evidence of New Interaction

A new concept to solve the solar neutrino problem that is based on the hypothesis about the existence of a new interaction of electron neutrinos with nucleons mediated by massless pseudoscalar bosons is proposed. At each collision of a neutrino with nucleons of the Sun, its helicity changes from left- to right-handed and vice versa, and its energy decreases. The postulated hypothesis, having only one free parameter, provides good agreement between the calculated and experimental characteristics of all five observed processes with solar neutrinos.     

Production of Ω<Subscript>scb</Subscript> baryons in electron-positron collisions

The total and differential cross sections for the production of Ω_scb baryons in electron-positron collisions are calculated at the Z-boson pole.     

Toward an Infinite-Component Field Theory with a Double Symmetry: Interaction of Fields

We complete the first stage of constructing a theory of fields not investigated before; these fields transform according to Lorentz group representations decomposable into an infinite direct sum of finite-dimensional irreducible representations. We consider only those theories that initially have a double symmetry: relativistic invariance and the invariance under the transformations of a secondary symmetry generated by the polar or the axial four-vector representation of the orthochronous Lorentz group. The high symmetry of the theory results in an infinite degeneracy of the particle mass spectrum with respect to spin. To eliminate this degeneracy, we postulate a spontaneous secondary-symmetry breaking and then solve the problems on the existence and the structure of nontrivial interaction Lagrangians.     

Spin rotation as an element of polarization experiments on elastic electron-proton scattering

The validity of some rules in the classical theory of spin, which are followed by the Bargmann-Michel-Telegdi formula for a relativistic particle spin rotation in a constant homogeneous magnetic field, is analyzed. In the framework of the quantum theory, we give examples where these rules are violated. Consequences for polarization experiments are discussed.
