Experimental and numerical analysis of cylindrical turbulators in a double pipe heat exchanger under turbulent flow conditions

In the present work, the use of cylindrical turbulators in a double pipe heat exchanger has been investigated. Cylindrical fin type of turbulators has been placed circumferentially separated by 90° on the outer side of an inner pipe at a regular pitch. Experimental studies were undertaken for different air flow rates in a turbulent regime whose Reynolds number range between 2500 and 10000. Heat transfer characteristics like Nu and friction factor have been experimentally determined. Parametric studies were conducted by changing the pitch and also the orientation of the turbulators. Nu and friction factor were found to increase as the pitch is reduced. A model with alternatively changed orientation outperformed others by exhibiting highest Nu and reduced friction factor.

A. Shokri and S. E. Zamani was previously published under the title, “Rheology, Morphology and Estimation of Interfacial Tension of LDPE/EVA and HDPE/EVA Blends” by H. A. Khonakdar, S. H. Jafari, A. Yavari, A. Asadinezhad, U. Wagenknecht, in Polymer Bulletin 54, 75–84 (2005), . We have retracted the article, and offer our apologies to the authors of the original paper.     

Synthesis of 1-(5-phenyl-2H-tetrazol-2-ylacetyl)-4-substituted thiosemicarbazides as possible antiinflammatory agents

A series of 1-(5-phenyl-2H-tetrazol-2-ylacetyl)-4-substituted thiosemicarbazids were prepared as possible antiinflammatory agents. Their antiproteolytic activity was reported.     

4-(Arylaminothiocarbonyl)-1-(1-o-methoxyphenylcarbamido)-ethylpiperazines as anticonvulsants

Several 4-(arylaminothiocarbonyl)-1-(1-o-methoxyphenylcarbamido)-ethylpiperazines were synthesized and evaluated for their anticonvulsant activity against pentylenetetrazol-induced seizures in mice. The ability of substituted piperazines to inhibit in vitro respiratory activity of rat brain homogenates was also determined to study their structure-activity relationship.     

Synthesis and Structure Determination of Some New N‐Glycosides of 4,5‐Disubstituted‐1,2,4‐Triazole‐3‐Thiones

Some new N‐glycosides of 4‐(2‐phenylethyl)‐5‐pyridyl‐1,2,4‐triazole‐3‐thiones were synthesised by the coupling reaction of halo sugar with 4,5‐disubstituted 3H‐1,2,4‐triazole‐3‐thiones in the presence of mercuric cyanide and dry nitromethane as solvent, followed by deprotection using dry ammonia in methanol. All of the above compounds were fully characterized by means of infrared, ¹H NMR spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy and elemental analysis.     

Synthesis of some newer 5-(5-aryl-2H-tetrazol-2-ylmethyl)-4-substituted-s-triazole-3-thiols as possible antiinflammatory agents

Several 1-(5-aryl-2H-tetrazol-2-ylacetyl)-4-substituted thiosemicarbazides and 5-(5-aryl-2H-tetrazol-2-yl-methyl)-4-substituted-s-triazole-3-thiols were synthesized as possible antiinflammatory agents. These compounds were characterized by their elemental, infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance analysis.     

Chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of the essential oils of Ferula latisecta and Mozaffariania insignis from Iran

The hydrodistilled oils from the aerial parts of Ferula latisecta and Mozaffariania insignis, which is endemic to Iran, were analyzed by GC and GC/MS. (Z)-Ocimenone (32.4%), (E)-ocimenone (20.3%), and cis-pinocarvone (11.4%) were the main components among the 22 constituents characterized in the oil of F. latisecta, representing 87.7% of the total components detected. Twenty-five compounds were identified in the oil of M. insignis, representing 99.0% of the total oil, with octyl acetate (41.1%), β-pinene (30.3%), and α-pinene (23.9%) as the main constituents. The essential oils were examined for their potential antimicrobial activities. Published in Khimiya Prirodnykh Soedinenii, No. 6, pp. 561–563, November–December, 2006.     

N-Iodosuccinimide (NIS) as a mild and highly chemoselective catalyst for deprotection of tert-butyldimethylsilyl ethers

A variety of alcoholic TBDMS (t-butyldimethylsilyl) ethers are easily removed in excellent yields by treatment with a catalytic amount of N-iodosuccinimide (NIS, 5 mol %) in methanol. This method is able to deprotect TBDMS ethers of alcohols in the presence of TBDMS ethers of phenols.     

Asymmetric conjugate addition of thioglycolate to a range of chalcones using tetrahydroisoquinoline (TIQ) N,N′-dioxide ligands

A series of novel TIQ based N,N′-oxide ligands were synthesised and screened for their catalytic activity in the enantioselective conjugate addition of thioglycolate to chalcones. Bulky groups on the side chain of the TIQ backbone provided the highest enantioselectivity of up to 88% with 10 mol % catalyst loading. It was also observed that these reactions proceeded optimally in the presence of dichloromethane as a solvent. Screening of various metals emphasized La(OTf)₃ as the ideal pre-catalyst for this particular reaction.     

Three component reactions：An efficient and green synthesis of 3, 4-dihydropyrimidin-2-(1H)-ones and thiones using silica gel-supported L-pyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid-4-hydrogen sulfate

An environmentally benign aqueous protocol for the synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2-(1H)-ones and thiones promoted by a green catalyst,silica gel-supported L-pyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid-4-hydrogen sulfate,has been developed.The use of nontoxic,thermally stable and inexpensive amino acid catalyst makes the process simple with minimal amount of chemical waste.Compared with classical Biginelli reaction conditions,this new method has the advantages of high yields and simple workup procedures.
