Local automorphisms and derivations on

The aim of this note is to give a short proof that 2-local derivations on , the matrix algebra over the complex numbers are derivations and to give a shorter proof that 2-local *-automorphisms on are *-automorphisms.

     

Linear maps preserving ideals of -algebras

We show that unital self-adjoint linear bijections of matrix algebras, type factors and abelian -algebras preserving maximal left ideals are isomorphisms and we show that a unital continuous linear map of a -algebra that maps the minimal left ideal into itself is the identity map.     

ZnO thin film on side polished optical fiber for gas sensing applications

In this work, thin ZnO films have been produced by pulsed laser deposition on side-polished fiber for optical gas sensor applications. The influence was investigated of the processing parameters, such as substrate temperature and oxygen pressure applied during deposition, on the sensitivity to ammonia of the sensing element. A shift of the spectral position of the resonance minimum to the longer wavelengths was observed at room temperature for the sample prepared at 150 °C substrate temperature and 20 Pa oxygen pressure. Spectral changes in the range 0.16-1.13 nm for NH₃ concentrations between 500 and 5000 ppm were also observed.     

Standardized method comparison for ACS:180 plus and Immulite sensitive PSA (sPSA) measurement methods

The aim of this study was to compare two immunoassay measurement methods, the ACS:180 Plus (Chiron Diagnostics) kit and the Immulite sPSA (DPC) kit. Method comparison analysis was performed according to EP9-A; approved guideline of NCCLS 51. Serum samples having a wide range of total prostate-specific antigen (PSA) concentrations were evaluated in split-sample analysis. F-test, t-test analysis and regression statistics were performed. In Deming regression analysis the coefficients were as follows; the slope=0.967; y-intercept=-0.148, r=0.989. An acceptable bias was seen since the systematical error was calculated to have a value less than the total allowable error calculated from biological variations. Non-parametric evaluation of the area under ROC curves for ACS:180 Plus and Immulite sPSA were 0.997 and 0.987, respectively. Diagnostic accuracy was at the level of p= 0.000 and no statistical difference was found between the two assay methods.     

Local automorphisms and derivations on certain -algebras

It is shown that continuous -local derivations on -algebras are derivations and surjective -local *-automorphisms on prime -algebras or on -algebras such that the identity element is properly infinite are *-automorphisms.

     

Statistical approximation properties of q-Bleimann,Butzer and Hahn operators

The main aim of this study is to introduce a new generalization of q-Bleimann, Butzer and Hahn operators and obtain statistical approximation properties of these operators with the help of the Korovkin type statistical approximation theorem. Rates of statistical convergence by means of the modulus of continuity and the Lipschitz type maximal function are also established. Our results show that rates of convergence of our operators are at least as fast as classical BBH operators. The second aim of this study is to construct a bivariate generalization of the operator and also obtain the statistical approximation properties.     

Structural and optical properties of Er, Yb co-doped Y2O3 thin films

Thin Er³⁺, Yb³⁺ co-doped Y₂O₃ films were grown on (1 0 0) YAG substrates by pulsed laser deposition. Ceramic targets having different active ion concentration were used for ablation. The influence of the rare-earth content and oxygen pressure applied during the deposition on the structural, morphological and optical properties of the films were investigated. The films deposited at the lower pressure, 1 Pa, and at 1/10 Er to Yb doping ratio are highly textured along the (1 1 1) direction of the Y₂O₃ cubic phase. In addition to the crystalline structure, these films possess smoother surface compared to those prepared at the higher pressure, 10 Pa. All other films are polycrystalline, consisting of cubic and monoclinic phases of Y₂O₃. The rougher surface of the films produced at the higher-pressure leads to higher scattering losses and different behavior of the reflectivity spectra. Optical anisotropy in the films of less than 0.004 was measured regardless of the monoclinic structure obtained. Waveguide losses of about 1 dB/cm at 633 nm were obtained for the films produced at the lower oxygen pressure.     

On Kantorovich Process of a Sequence of the Generalized Linear Positive Operators

We define the Kantorovich variant of the generalized linear positive operators introduced by Ibragimov and Gadjiev in 1970. We investigate direct approximation result for these operators on p-weighted integrable function spaces and also estimate their rate of convergence for absolutely continuous functions having a derivative coinciding a.e., with a function of bounded variation.
