Mössbauer studies of iron uptake,ferritin and hemoglobin synthesis and denaturation in erythroid cell cultures

Mössbauer studies in murine (MEL) and human K-562 erythroleukemia cell lines have been utilized to study the fate of iron during intracellular Hb synthesis and denaturation. The results showed that ferritin can serve as an intermediate iron pool for Hb synthesis and for storage of iron released during intracellular Hb denaturation.     

Use of ab initio pseudopotentials for the assignment of boundary conditions of clusters modeling MgO

Conclusions The work reported in this article was aimed at determining the feasibility and desirability of using ab initio core pseudopotential anionic centers and cluster models of ionic crystals of the type of a cluster implanted in a crystal. The results presented herein, from calculations of a number of clusters of magnesium oxide, demonstrate the promise of this approach for compensation of bond rupture effects. In particular, such a model offers a means for a substantial reduction of the artifact-introduced nonequivalence of the partial ionic densities and the effective charges. The comparatively high reliability of the cluster scheme proposed in this work is also supported by results from calculations of the geometric parameters of the crystal.Branch of Institute of Chemical Physics, Russian Academy of Sciences. Properties of noninteger moments in a first passage time problem

We calculate the moments t ^q , whereq is not necessarily an integer, of the first passage time to trapping for a simple diffusion problem in one dimension. If a characteristic length of the system isL and t _q ~L (q) asL, then we show that there is a phase transition atq=q _c such that whenq<q _c ,(g)=0, and forq>q _c , (q) is a linear function ofq. These analytical results can be used to explain results for large moments for diffusion on a hierarchic structure. We also show how to calculate noninteger moments in terms of characteristic functions.     

Synthesis of Esters of Dioxane Alcohols and Their Performance as Plasticizers for Polyvinyl Chloride Compounds

A procedure was developed for preparing a plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride compounds from the fraction of dioxane alcohols. The main physicochemical properties of the new plasticizer were determined. Mass-spectrometric studies on alkylated 6-thiopurines

6-Thiopurine and its N- or C-alkyl derivatives all form an [M – 1]-ion upon fragmentation. In the 7-alkyl derivatives, this ion represents the major component of the spectrum. This is ascribed to formation of a five-membered thiazoline-like ring. Similar ring formation stabilises the [M – 1]-ion in the 7-methyl derivatives of hypoxanthine, adenine and 6-selenopurine.
