Integral Representations,Differentiability Properties and Limits at Infinity for Beppo Levi Functions

The first aim in the present paper is to give an integral representation for Beppo Levi functions on R ⁿ. Our integral representation is an extension of Sobolev's integral representation given for infinitely differentiable functions with compact support. As applications, continuity and differentiability properties of Beppo Levi functions are studied.Our second aim in this paper is to study the existence of limits at infinity for Beppo Levi functions. We also consider the existence of fine-type limits at infinity with respect to Bessel capacities, which yields the radial limit result at infinity.     

Bioavailability study of commercial sustained-release preparations of diclofenac sodium in gastrointestinal physiology regulated-dogs.

The gastrointestinal (GI) physiology of beagle dogs was regulated with a combined-treatment of intramuscular pentagastrin (10 micrograms/kg x 2) and intravenous atropine sulfate (0.02 mg/kg x 1). Here, the gastric acidity, the gastric emptying time and the small intestinal transit time in the regulated-dogs were respectively around pH 2, 0.7h and 4h, approximating those in healthy humans. The superiority of the regulated-dogs over the intact dogs was confirmed in comparative bioavailability studies by using two classes of commercial preparations. Both the conventional tablet and the sustained-release capsule of diclofenac sodium exhibited simple and similar average plasma concentration-time curves of free diclofenac in the intact dogs, while the latter preparation is reported to reveal a bimodal plasma curve of the drug in healthy humans. The regulated-dogs, however, permitted a bimodal average plasma pattern of the drug for the capsules due to an approximation of the GI physiology between humans and these classes of the dogs. The combined-treatment of beagle dogs with pentagastrin and atropine sulfate seems to supply a useful animal model in predicting the absorption characteristics of the sustained-release preparations and poor water-soluble drugs.     

Synthesis of spherical and hemispherical sugar‐containing poly(ornithine) dendrimers

A novel sugar‐containing poly(ornithine) dendrimer is synthesized for possible antigen delivery and related applications. The dendrimer contains an ornithine dendron as interior scaffolding and oligosaccharides on the periphery, which provide an attachment site for a peptide antigen. Maltose or lactose is bound to both hemispherical and spherical poly(ornithine) dendrimer generation 3 (G3) by reductive amination between its reducing end and the peripheral amino group of the dendrimer using a borane‐pyridine complex in a buffer solution at 50 °C. The degree of substitution of sugar is changed by varying the molar ratio of sugar to dendrimer. When the surface of spherical poly(ornithine) dendrimer G3 is modified by binding β‐alanine to the 16 amino groups, highly substituted maltose‐ or lactose‐β‐alanine‐poly(ornithine) dendrimer G3 is obtained in high yield after 7 days of reaction. The structures of these sugar‐containing dendrimers are characterized by NMR and matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry analyses. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Preparation of an aliphatic-substituted hypervalent iodine compound, tetracoordinate 1,2-iodoxetane 1-oxide, and its application to oxidation

A tetracoordinate 1,2-iodoxetane was prepared by the fluorination of a tricoordinate 1,2-iodoxetane with xenon difluoride followed by hydrolysis. The tetracoordinate 1,2-iodoxetane oxidized alcohols and a sulfide to the corresponding aldehydes and ketones, and a sulfoxide, respectively, in good to moderate yields under mild conditions.     

Catalytic asymmetric desymmetrization of cyclic meso-1,3- and 1,4-diols by a phosphinite derivative of quinidine

Asymmetric monobenzoylation reactions of cyclic meso-1,3- and 1,4-diols were catalyzed by a phosphinite derivative of quinidine to afford the corresponding monobenzoylated diol with good yield and enantioselectivity. [reaction: see text]     

Preparation and characterization of novel branched beta-cyclodextrins having beta-D-galactose residues on the non-reducing terminal of the side chains and their specific interactions with peanut (Arachis hypogaea) agglutinin

Six novel branched beta-cyclodextrins (betaCDs) having beta-D-galactose residues on the non-reducing terminal of the sugar side chains, namely 6(1),6(4)-di-O-(beta-D-galactosyl)-betaCD (10), 6-O-(beta-D-galactosyl)-betaCD (11), 6(1),6(4)-di-O-(beta-lactosyl)-betaCD (14), 6-O-(beta-lactosyl)-betaCD (15), 6(1),6(4)-di-O-(4'-O-beta-D-galactosyl-beta-lactosyl)-betaCD (18), and 6-O-(4'-O-beta-D-galactosyl-beta-lactosyl)-betaCD (19), were chemically synthesized using the trichloroacetimidate method. The reaction products were separated by HPLC on an amino column into dibranched and monobranched betaCDs. Their structures were confirmed by mass spectrometry (MS) and two-dimensional (2D) NMR spectroscopic analysis. To study the length of the sugar side chains attached to the CD ring, which leads to differences in the functions of the branched CDs, interactions of these compounds with peanut (Arachis hypogaea) agglutinin (PNA) were investigated using an optical biosensor and an inhibition assay based on hemagglutination. The results showed that all branched betaCDs interacted with PNA, and the binding affinity was 18>14>10 and 19>15>11 when the derivatives were compared on the basis of side chain length.     

Reactivity control of an allylsilane bearing a 2-(phenylazo)phenyl group by photoswitching of the coordination number of silicon

Photoswitching of the coordination number of silicon between four and five in allyldifluoro[2-(phenylazo)phenyl]silane, which was confirmed by X-ray analysis and multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, caused multistep reactions to proceed or stop, yielding tetrafluoro[2-(1-allyl-2-phenylhydrazino)phenyl]silicate without altering other reaction conditions.     

Isolation,chemical characterization and structure of ansamitocin,a new antitumor ansamycin antibiotic

In this paper we report the isolation, chemical characterization and structural elucidation of Ansamitocin, a new antitumor antibiotic obtained from Nocardia No. C-15003 (N-1). Ansamitocin P-3, P-3' and P-4 with molecular formulae C₃₂H₄₃ClN₂O₉, C₃₂H₄₃ClN₂O₉ and C₃₃H₄₅ClN₂O₉, respectively, were identified as novel antibiotics. Their UV spectra resemble that of maytansine obtained from a plant source. Analysis of the PMR spectrum and spin-decoup studies of P-3 demonstrated that its skeletal structure was the same as that of maytansine. Reductive cleavage of each antibiotic gave maytansinol (P-0). Alkali hydrolysis of P-3, P-3' and P-4 gave isobutyric, butyric and isovaleric acids, respectively. P-3, P-3' and P-4 were concluded to be the isobutyrate, butyrate and isovalerate ester of maytansinol at C-3, respectively. An antitumor plant product, maytanacine, and its semisynthetic derivative, maytansinol propionate, were also produced by the same strain.     

Preparation of Metallaiminophosphoranes and Their Reactivity

Treatment of [Cp*(CO) 2 M{P(NHPh)(OMe) 2 }]PF 6 (M = Fe and Ru) with NaNH 2 gives metallaiminophosphoranes, Cp*(CO) 2 M{P(NPh)(OMe) 2 }. The x-ray structures and reactivity of the complexes are reported.     

Oxidative Bond Cleavage of the Silicon–Silicon Bond of a Pentacoordinated Disilicate

The Si Si bond of a pentacoordinated disilicate was readily cleaved by treatment with 2,3‐dichloro‐5,6‐dicyano‐p‐benzoquinone in the presence of sodium carbonate under mild conditions. The bond cleavage did not proceed under the same conditions after conversion of the disilicate into the corresponding monoanionic silylsilicate and neutral disilane by protonation. The difference in the charges of the Si Si bond compounds affects the reactivity toward an oxidant, resulting in the Si Si bond cleavage, considering that all of these compounds have a bond between pentacoordinated silicon atoms.
