On tightness and stopping times

This paper studies conditions of tightness for sequences of processes, which conditions are mostly based on the use of ‘dominating’ increasing processes. The results obtained follow in directions initiated by Aldous and Rebolledo and are particularly well-suited for studying sequences of semimartingales. Also obtained are results that extend sufficient conditions of Aldous's type to processes that are not quasi-left-continuous.     

A New Simple and Industrial Process for Bromination of Alcohols

Alcohols treated with thionyl chloride, followed by chlorine/bromine exchange using gaseous hydrobromic acid and thermal decomposition in the presence of a tertiary amine give the corresponding brominated compounds. The process is regio/stereo selective.     

The bone volume effect on the dosimetry of plutonium-239 and americium-241 in the skeleton of man and baboon

Studies were undertaken using bone removed from young adult baboons, which had been contaminated with plutonium-239 at various times prior to sacrifice, and human bone from an adult male (USTR Case 246), who had received an internal deposition of americium-241 as a result of a glove-box explosion 11 years prior to his death. The baboon bone was supplied by the CEA, France, and the human bone by the United States Transuranium Registry. The bone samples, examined by qualitative and quantitative autoradiography with CR 39 detectors, demonstrated the rapid redistribution of bone surface-seeking radionuclides in younger primates due to growth and the slower, bone turnover driven redistribution in the adult human bone. In both species, primary and secondary surface deposits of radionuclide remained conspicuous despite bone activity; true volumization of radionuclide was seldom seen. The dosimetric implications of these findings are discussed.

Résumé Dans de précédents articles, les auteurs ont étudié l'intégrale stochastique en tant qu'intégrale relativement à un type particulier de mesures vectorielles, appelées mesures stochastiques.L'originalité de cet article est de considérer des mesures stochastiques pouvant prendre leurs valeurs dans L ₀, et engendrées par des processus admettant un ensemble d'indices trés général (non nécessairement ordonné).Dans cette situation générale, un théoréme de représentation de Rie\ est obtenu pour les mesures stochastiques.

Summary In previous papers, the authors have studied stochastic integrals as integrals with respect to a particular type of vector measures called stochastic measures.The special feature of this paper is that the here considered stochastic measures may take their values in L ₀, and that the generating process admits a quite general (not necessarily ordered) set of indexes.In this general setting, a Rie\-representation theorem for stochastic measures is obtained.
