The intralaminar fracture toughness of a unidirectionally reinforced glass/epoxy composite is determined experimentally at
several mode I and mode II loading ratios. The crack propagation criterion, expressed as a quadratic form in terms of single-mode
stress intensity factors (alternatively, linear in terms of energy release rates), approximates the test results reasonably
well. The mixed-mode cracking criterion obtained is used to predict the intralaminar crack on set in a cross-ply glass/epoxy
composite under off-axis tensile loading.

The authors evaluate the Science-Technology-Society (STS) views, attitudes and literacy of Israeli elementary science school teachers in three in-depth, longitudinal inservice programs. The programs were aimed at promoting teacher empowerment for the implementation, on a national scale, of a new STS-oriented elementary science curriculum reform. By using a blend of qualitative and quantitative research methods, the effectiveness of these similar but not identical programs has been determined. It was found that appropriately designed inservice science teacher training courses did induce a shift in the STS views/positions, beliefs/attitudes and literacy of elementary science teachers, and that this shift can be increased by using research-based data, obtained within an ongoing formative education process. 相似文献

Recently this aspect of the problem has been studied in the framework of a Galton-Watson process.... In these studies the population is treated as monotype. Applications such as pedigree studies of diseases require a multitype approach (in the example, two types: victims and others). In this paper such a study is undertaken." This paper describes an approach to manufacture hierarchical composites from environmentally friendly materials by grafting cellulose whiskers onto regenerated cellulose fibers (Cordenka 700). Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis were performed to verify the degree of modification. The mechanical properties of the unmodified and modified fibers were analyzed using fiber bundle tensile static and loading–unloading tests. To show the effect of cellulose whiskers grafting on the Cordenka fibers, epoxy based composites were manufactured and tensile tests done on transverse uni-directional specimens. The mechanical properties were significantly increased by fiber modification and addition of the nano-phase into composite reinforced with micro-sized fibers. 相似文献

This article describes a quick and convenient method for estimating the percentage error associated with any measurement of absorption coefficient using the impedance tube method. A parameter Z is calculated, using constants appropriate to the tube and the decibel difference between a pressure maximum and minimum. The value of this parameter can be used as a criterion as to whether a more accurate determination, using linear regression, should be employed. The technique is valuable as an aid when low values of absorption coefficient, particularly at low frequencies, are to be measured. 相似文献

A partial-wave analysis of the mesons from the reaction pi(-)p --> pi(+)pi(-)pi(-)pi(0)pi(0)p has been performed. The data show b(1)pi decay of the spin-exotic states pi(1)(1600) and pi(1)(2000). Three isovector 2(-+) states were seen in the omegarho(-) decay channel. In addition to the well known pi(2)(1670), signals were also observed for pi(2)(1880) and pi(2)(1970). 相似文献

Stretching effects on the morphology of polypropylene/carbon nanotube composites is the focus of this work. The material under
investigation was composed of isotactic polypropy lene (iPP) and multiwall car bon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in amount of 0.5 wt.%.
The iPP and CNTs were mixed under sonication in a solvent, and the homogenized mixture was melted and pressed. The rectangular
plates produced from the material were stretched by a constant load at a fixed temperature in order to obtain extended specimens.
The scanning electron microscopy, a thermal gravimetric analysis, and the differential scanning calorimetry were employed
to study variations in the structural morphology of the material. A dynamic mechanical analysis showed that the strain-induced
crystallization of polypropylene and the possible Stone–Wales transformation of the carbon nanotubes due to stretching improved
the mechanical performance of the nanocomposites considered. 相似文献
