Kneser''s theorem and the multivalued generalized order complementarity problem

The Generalized Order Complementarity Problem studied by Isac and Kostreva is extended to multivalued mappings satisfying a condition proposed by Kneser. Existence of solutions to a related fixed point problem leads to existence theory for the new type of complementarity problem. Some important applications include problems in lubrication and in economics in which functions are set valued.     

The generalized order complementarity problem

Given an ordered Banach Space (E,K) andm functionsf ₁,f ₂,...,f _m:EE, the generalized order complementarity problem associated with {f _i} andK is to findx ₀K such thatf _i(x ₀)K,i=1,...,m, and (x ₀,f ₁(x ₀),...,f _m(x ₀))=0. The problem is shown to be equivalent to several fixed-point problems and equivalent to the order complementarity problem studied by Borwein and Dempster and by Isac. Existence and uniqueness of solutions and least-element theory are shown in the spacesC(, ) andL _p(, ). For general locally convex spaces, least-element theory is derived, existence is proved, and an algorithm for computing a solution is presented. Applications to the mixed lubrication theory of fluid mechanics are described.     

The Study of Minimax Inequalities, Abstract Economics and Applications to Variational Inequalities and Nash Equilibria

In this survey, a new minimax inequality and one equivalent geometricform are proved. Next, a theorem concerning the existence of maximalelements for an LC-majorized correspondence is obtained.By the maximal element theorem, existence theorems of equilibrium point fora noncompact one-person game and for a noncompact qualitative game withLC-majorized correspondences are given. Using the lastresult and employing 'approximation approach', we prove theexistence of equilibria for abstract economies in which the constraintcorrespondence is lower (upper) semicontinuous instead of having lower(upper) open sections or open graphs in infinite-dimensional topologicalspaces. Then, as the applications, the existence theorems of solutions forthe quasi-variational inequalities and generalized quasi-variationalinequalities for noncompact cases are also proven. Finally, with theapplications of quasi-variational inequalities, the existence theorems ofNash equilibrium of constrained games with noncompact are given. Our resultsinclude many results in the literature as special cases.     

Quasi-P*-Maps,P(τ, α, β)-Maps,Exceptional Family of Elements,and Complementarity Problems

Quasi-P_*-maps and P(, , )-maps defined in this paper are two large classes of nonlinear mappings which are broad enough to include P_*-maps as special cases. It is of interest that the class of quasi-P_*-maps also encompasses quasimonotone maps (in particular, pseudomonotone maps) as special cases. Under a strict feasibility condition, it is shown that the nonlinear complementarity problem has a solution if the function is a nonlinear quasi-P_*-map or P(, , )-map. This result generalizes a classical Karamardian existence theorem and a recent result concerning quasimonotone maps established by Hadjisawas and Schaible, but restricted to complementarity problems. A new existence result under an exceptional regularity condition is also established. Our method is based on the concept of exceptional family of elements for a continuous function, which is a powerful tool for investigating the solvability of complementarity problems.

Duality of Implicit Complementarity Problems by Using Inversions and Scalar Derivatives

The notion of infinitesimal exceptional family of elements for an ordered pair of mappings is introduced. By using a special inversion mapping, a duality between the exceptional family of elements for an ordered pair of mappings and the infinitesimal exceptional family of elements for an ordered pair of mappings is presented. By using this duality and the notion of scalar derivatives, existence theorems for implicit complementarity problems in Hilbert spaces are presented.Communicated by F. A. Complementarity problem and the existence of the post-critical equilibrium state of a thin elastic plate

Using the concept of a conically bounded set, we prove a variational principle for functionals defined on a locally compact pointed convex cone. Applying this principle to the nonlinear complementarity problem, we study the existence of the post-critical equilibrium state of a thin elastic plate, subjected to unilateral conditions.     

Exceptional Families of Elements for Continuous Functions: Some Applications to Complementarity Theory

Using the topological degree and the concept of exceptional family of elements for a continuous function, we prove a very general existence theorem for the nonlinear complementarity problem. This result is an alternative theorem. A generalization of Karamardian's condition and the asymptotic monotonicity are also introduced. Several applications of the main results are presented.
