A determination of the structure of liquid Ga2Te3 using combined X-ray diffraction and neutron diffraction with isotopic substitution

The partial structure factors of liquid Ga₂Te₃ have been determined using a combination of neutron diffraction with isotopic substitution (NDIS) and anomalous X-ray diffraction around the Te K edge. The inclusion of X-ray diffraction data significantly improves the statistical accuracy of the partial structure factors obtained compared with those obtained by the NDIS method alone. The results show that the liquid is hetero-coordinated in a way similar to that of typical two-component glasses or ionic liquids. There is no evidence, within the accuracy of this experiment, for substantial numbers of homopolar bonds as suggested by recent ab initio molecular dynamics simulations. The bond distances and coordination numbers show strong similarities to the tetrahedrally bonded defective zinc blende structure of the crystalline solid before melting.     

New multi-phonon gamma vibrational bands in A～110 neutron-rich nuclei

The high spin states of neutron-rich 103Nb, 107Tc and 109Tc nuclei in A~110 region have been investigated by measuring prompt γ-γ-γ coincident measurements populated with the spontaneous fission of 252Cf with the Gammasphere detector array. In 103Nb, one-phonon K = 9/2 and two-phonon K = 13/2 γ-vibrational bands have been identified. In 107Tc and 109Tc, one-phonon K = 11/2 and two-phonon K = 15/2 γ-vibrational bands, in which the zero-phonon bands are based on K=7/2 excited states, have also been identified...     

Customer retention: a behavioural model

One of the main problems currently facing CTedit-card issuersis the increasing number of cardholders who are using theircards less often (i.e. attrition) and/or returning their cards(closures). This problem is of particular concern as the totalnumber of credit cards held by consumers is declining (by approximately0.6 per cent per month in 1992) and the number of new applicantsis also running at an all time-low (less than 1 per cent permonth in 1992). Most of the published literature in the broad area of creditcards looks at credit scoring, rather than the need for cardissuers to identify and retain a profitable portfolio of cardcustomers. The overall objective of our research is ‘segmentationfor customer retention’, and this paper aims to identifythe characteristics of card customers who initiate the closureof their accounts Linear discriminant analysis is applied toa sample of approximately 17,000 UK holders of bank credit cards,using various behavioural and sociodemographic variables, andtested on a holdout sample of 10,000 cases.     

ChemInform Abstract: Structures,Energetics, and Vibrational Frequencies of the Silicon and Germanium Dichlorides and Dibromides and Their Dimers.

Ab initio Hartree-Fock calculations, performed to determine the geometries and energies of the ground singlet (1A1) and the first excited triplet (3B1) states of SiCl₂, SiBr₂, GeCl₂, and GeBr₂ and of the ground states of their dimers, show that the triplet state is not energetically accessible at the experimental temp. (600 °C) and therefore is not a possible model for the additional component in the electron diffraction radial distribution of GeBr₂.
