Identification of low-energy light nuclei recorded by means of an ionizational mass spectrometer

A method of identifying low-energy nuclei from the readings of an ionizational mass spectrometer is considered. The identification principles for particles recorded by a multilayer detector are discussed, together with the fundamentals of a probabilistic approach to the solution of this problem. The method permits correct analysis of the experimental data obtained. The determination of the charge and isotopic composition of radiation consisting of a mixture of different nuclei is considered. The results of calculations by the given method which permit the determination of the optimal detector parameters for the solution of the specific physical problem are outlined. Proton affinity of phosphoryl compounds and σΦ-substituent constants

Based on the familiar Hammett-type equation pK_a=pK_a ⁰- , CNDO/2 calculations, and known literature data, we have obtained a linear dependence of the proton affinity (PA) of phosphoryl compounds XYZPO on the sum of the constants. Four-photon laser spectroscopy of liquid water and aqueous solutions of α-chymotrypsin in the range ±5 cm<Superscript>−1</Superscript>

The resonances located at 1.2, 1.6, 2.0, and 2.3 cm^?1 with a width of ～0.2 cm^?1 were observed for the first time in the range ±5 cm^?1 of the four-photon Rayleigh wing spectra of distilled water and aqueous solutions of the protein α-chymotrypsin. The line at 2.3 cm^?1 belongs to the rotational transition 3(2, 1)–4(1, 4) of the ground vibrational state of water. In the presence of the protein, the spectrum is modified by the appearance of new lines, located at 0.74, 2.8, and 3.2 cm^?1. The modification of the spectrum observed is interpreted as a manifestation of low-frequency vibrations of large molecular fragments in aqueous protein solutions and as a result of the structuring of water in the vicinity of protein molecules.     

Calculation of the quadratic stark effect in krypton

The quadratic Stark effect for the seventeen levels of krypton in the 4s²p⁵ns-, 4s²p⁵np- and 4s²p⁵nd -configurations is calculated in the Coulomb approximation. The calculation is conducted for j-l and j-j coupling. The results obtained are found to agree satisfactorily with experiment.
