Well-posedness of two pseudo-parabolic problems for electrical conduction in heterogeneous media

We prove a well-posedness result for two pseudo-parabolic problems, which can be seen as two models for the same electrical conduction phenomenon in heterogeneous media, neglecting the magnetic field. One of the problems is the concentration limit of the other one, when the thickness of the dielectric inclusions goes to zero. The concentrated problem involves a transmission condition through interfaces, which is mediated by a suitable Laplace-Beltrami type equation.     

Ti(IV)/BINOL-catalyzed asymmetric aldol reaction of a masked acetoacetic ester: pronounced influence of catalyst concentration on nonlinear effects

Initial concentration of enantioenriched or enantiopure catalysts proved to be an important factor for the achievement of a more pronounced amplification of ee's in the Ti(IV)/BINOL-catalyzed aldol reaction of an O-silyldienolate.     

Sharply 1-transitive subsets of certain permutation groups

In this paper we give a method for constructing sharply 1-transitive permutation sets inside a finite permutation group with certain properties and we apply this method to obtain a family of sharply 1-transitive permutation subsets of the sharply 3-transitive permutation group M(p ^2f ) on PG(1, p ^2f ) for p ^f 1 (mod 4).Work supported by G.N.S.A.G.A. and M.P.I.     

Determination of anions in rainwater by capillary electrophoresis with conductivity detection

A routine method for the determination of chloride, nitrate and sulfate anions in rainwater by capillary electrophoresis was developed. The system uses an end-column non-suppressed conductivity detector. Linear calibration plots were generated from 0.050 to 20 mg/l, which is the range generally found in wet depositions. Accuracy and precision were evaluated by analyzing certified standards of simulated rainwater and environmental samples, or by comparing CE results with those obtained by IC, the reference technique for anion analysis in wet deposition. The reproducibility of the method was satisfactory except at the lower and upper limits of the analytical range. Sensitivity lay in the range of few μg/l.     

Invertomers at nitrogen in aziridine carboxylates by mltltinuclear (1H,13C,17O,and15N) NMR study

A confrgurational and conformational study of NH, N-acetyl- and N-sulfonylaziridine carboxylates is performed by¹H ,¹³C,¹⁷O, and¹⁵N NMR spectroscopy. The presence of acetyl and su fonyl groups on the ring nitrogen atom seems to reduce greatly the configurational stability at nitrogen.Published in Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 9, pp. 1226–1234, September, 1995.     

Studies on the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. VII. Action of acyl halides on heterocyclic compounds containing the O-M-O (M  P,As, Sb) bond in the ring

The action of acyl halides on heterocyclic compounds of five-membered rings containing an O-M-O (M ? P, As, Sb) linkage is described. The reactions were either carried out in the presence of a solvent (benzene or toluene) or by direct heating of the reagent with the substrate. In the case of arsole, stibole and stannole derivatives, the cleavage of O-M bond and the formation of the respective mono- and diesters were always obtained, while with the phospholes, no cleavage of the compounds was observed. The products IIa-c (M = Sb) have been obtained in excellent yields starting from VIa-c and antimony trichloride. The structure of the compounds which were prepared was determined by analytical and spectroscopic methods and also by comparations with authentic samples where possible.     

A new synthesis of 4-methoxy-cyclopent-2-en-1-ones

4-methoxy-cyclopent-2-en-1-ones $\text{6}$ are easily obtained through a simple procedure involving in the key-step the conversion of 2-furylcarbinols $\text{1}$ into 1,1,2-trimethoxy-al-kan-4-ones $\text{3}$, a masked form of 1,4-dicarbonyl compounds, by treatment with Amberlyst H15 in methanolic solution. Then, the regeneration of the aldehydic function and a base-catalysed aldolic condensation lead in high yields to the final products $\text{6}$.     

Rejuvenating old computerized spectrometric instrumentation: discussion of two case histories

Computerized analytical instruments of late 70's and 80's are facing rapid technological obsolescence, although they are often retaining good analytical performances. Responsibility is to be attributed to the fast advance in computer technology, which is leaving little or no back-compatibility with old standards and data formats. Rejuvenation may be reached by simple hardware and software modifications, to allow data exchange with modern PC's and LIMS. Two typical case histories for spectrometric instrumentation of late 70's are then presented and discussed in a general fashion.     

The microwave spectrum and dipole moment of 1,1-diflurobenzocyclopropene

The rotational spectrum of 1,1-difluorobenzocyclopropene, measured in the X- and R-bands, has been analysed to give the rotational constants in the ground and first four vibrational states. These constants are in agreement with a structure based on those of crystallographically determined related molecules. Indirect evidence is adduced that the carbon skeleton is indeed planar. The dipole moment in the ground (3.57₂ ± 0.02 D) and first excited state (3.54 ± 0.03 D) has been determined through an analysis of the second-order Stark effect. This high value implies considerable polarisation of the π-electron framework.
