Areas of single-layer MoS2 film can be prepared in a tube furnace without the need for temperature control. The films were characterized by means of Raman spectroscopy, photoluminescence, low-energy electron diffraction and microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and mapping. Transport measurements show n-doped material with a mobility of 0.26 cm2 V-1 s-1.  相似文献

We demonstrate a simple technique for the implementation of an all-optical integrator based on a uniform-period fiber Bragg grating (FBG) in reflection that is designed to present a decreasing exponential impulse response. The proposed FBG integrator is readily feasible and can perform close to ideal integration of few-picosecond and subpicosecond pulses.  相似文献

Biohydrometallurgy recovers metals through microbially mediated processes and has been traditionally applied for the extraction of base metals from low-grade sulfidic ores. New investigations explore its potential for other types of critical resources, such as rare earth elements. In recent times, the interest in rare earth elements (REEs) is growing due to of their applications in novel technologies and green economy. The use of biohydrometallurgy for extracting resources from waste streams is also gaining attention to support innovative mining and promote a circular economy. The increase in wastes containing REEs turns them into a valuable alternative source. Most REE ores and industrial residues do not contain sulfides, and bioleaching processes use autotrophic or heterotrophic microorganisms to generate acids that dissolve the metals. This review gathers information towards the recycling of REE-bearing wastes (fluorescent lamp powder, spent cracking catalysts, e-wastes, etc.) using a more sustainable and environmentally friendly technology that reduces the impact on the environment.  相似文献

Influenza viruses pose a permanent threat to human populations due to their ability to constantly adapt to impact immunologically susceptible individuals in the forms of epidemic and pandemics through antigenic drifts and antigenic shifts, respectively. Pandemic influenza preparedness is a critical step in responding to future influenza outbreaks. In this regard, responding to the current pandemic and preparing for future ones requires critical planning for the early phases where there is no availability of pandemic vaccine with rapid deployment of medical supplies for personal protection, antivirals, antibiotics and social distancing measures. In addition, it has become clear that responding to the current pandemic or preparing for future ones, nation states need to develop or strengthen their laboratory capability for influenza diagnosis as well as begin preparing their vaccine/antiviral deployment plans. Vaccine deployment plans are the critical missing link in pandemic preparedness and response. Rapid containment efforts are not effective and instead mitigation efforts should lead pandemic control efforts. We suggest that development of vaccine/antiviral deployment plans is a key preparedness step that allows nations identify logistic gaps in their response capacity.  相似文献

Approximately 40% of all U.S. cancer cases are treated with radiation therapy. In Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) the treatment planning problem is to choose external beam angles and their corresponding intensity maps (showing how the intensity varies across a given beam) to maximize tumor dose subject to the tolerances of surrounding healthy tissues. Dose, like temperature, is a quantity defined at each point in the body, and the distribution of dose is determined by the choice of treatment parameters available to the planner. In addition to absolute dose limits in healthy tissues, some tissues have at least one dose-volume restriction that requires a fraction of its volume to not exceed a specified tighter threshold level for damage. There may also be a homogeneity limit for the tumor that restricts the allowed spread of dose across its volume. We formulate this planning problem as a mixed integer program over a coupled pair of column generation processes -- one designed to produce intensity maps, and a second specifying protected area choices for tissues under dose-volume restrictions. The combined procedure is shown to strike a balance between computing an approximately optimal solution and bounding its maximum possible suboptimality that we believe holds promise for implementations able to offer the power and flexibility of mixed-integer linear programming models on instances of practical scale.A portion of the work of Dr. Langer, Mr. Thai and Dr. Preciado-Walters was supported by National Science Foundation grant ECS-0120145 and National Cancer Institute 1R41CA91688-01. The reactivity of benzimidazol‐2‐ylidenes with respect to gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) has been investigated using a combined experimental and computational approach. First, the grafting of benzimidazol‐2‐ylidenes bearing benzyl groups on the nitrogen atoms is described, and comparisons are made with structurally similar N‐heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) bearing other N‐groups. Similar reactivity was observed for all NHCs, with 1) the erosion of the AuNPs under the effect of the NHC and 2) the formation of bis(NHC) gold complexes. DFT calculations were performed to investigate the modes of grafting of such ligands, to determine adsorption energies, and to rationalize the spectroscopic data. Two types of computational models were developed to describe the grafting onto large or small AuNPs, with either periodic or cluster‐type DFT calculations. Calculations of NMR parameters were performed on some of these models, and discussed in light of the experimental data.  相似文献

Coherent X-ray diffraction has been used to study pseudo-merohedrally twinned manganite microcrystals. The analyzed compositions were Pr(5/8)Ca(3/8)MnO(3) and La(0.275)Pr(0.35)Ca(3/8)MnO(3). The prepared loose powder was thermally attached to glass (and quartz) capillary walls by gentle heating to ensure positional stability during data collection. Many diffraction data sets were recorded and some of them were split as expected from the main observed twin law: 180° rotation around [101]. The peak splitting was measured with very high precision owing to the high-resolution nature of the diffraction data, with a resolution (Δd/d) better than 2.0 × 10(-4). Furthermore, when these microcrystals are illuminated coherently, the different crystallographic phases of the structure factors induce interference in the form of a speckle pattern. The three-dimensional speckled Bragg peak intensity distribution has been measured providing information about the twin domains within the microcrystals. Research is ongoing to invert the measured patterns. Successful phase retrieval will allow mapping out the twin domains and twin boundaries which play a key role in the physical properties.  相似文献

We developed the control technique for nonlinear oscillators when simple feedback alters the oscillation energy. The control does not require any computation nor knowledge of the system equations. Depending on the control perturbation parameters, two scenarios take place: (i) changing (linearly or nonlinearly) the oscillator damping, and (ii) suppressing (enhancing) the driving force. In the case of large deviations between phases of the chaotic oscillator and the driving force, only first scenario holds. Generalization of the technique to the case of oscillator networks is considered.  相似文献

Fluence map optimization problems are commonly solved in intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) planning. We show that, when subject to dose-volume restrictions, these problems are NP-hard and that the linear programming relaxation of their natural mixed integer programming formulation can be arbitrarily weak. We then derive strong valid inequalities for fluence map optimization problems under dose-volume restrictions using disjunctive programming theory and show that strengthening mixed integer programming formulations with these valid inequalities has significant computational benefits.  相似文献
