Quantum group invariant fermionic gases: GLp,q(2) and SUp/q(2) invariances

We first investigate the high-temperature behavior of a two-parameter deformed quantum group fermionic gas with GL_p,q(2) symmetry, where (p,q)C×C. We then discuss both the structural and thermodynamical differences between GL_p,q(2)- and SU_r(2)-fermions with r=p/q where (p,q)R×R.     

Unitary quantum groups,quantum projective spaces andq-oscillators

We discuss the parametrization of quantum groups in terms of independent operators. We find that this consideration leads to the parametrization ofSU _q(2) in terms of aq-oscillator plus a commuting phase. The commuting phase is naturally identified with the subgroupU(1) and the remaining cosetSU _q(2)/U(1)=CP _q(1) consists of aq-oscillator. For unitary quantum groupsSU _q (n), the analogous construction results in the quantum projective spaceSU _q(n+1)/U _q (n)=CP _q (n) being identified with then-dimensionalq-oscillator. This yields a nonlinear action of the quantum groupSU _q(n+1) on then-dimensionalq-oscillator.     

Investigation of the behavior of weak waves in the solution of a vector variational wave equation

We consider nonsmooth solutions of the system of Euler-Lagrange equations corresponding to a variational problem with several unknown functions of several variables and with a quadratic functional. The propagation of weak discontinuities is described by the equations of the method of singular characteristics developed by Melikyan. The onset and interaction of weak discontinuities of the solution caused by nonsmooth initial conditions are studied by numerical-analytic methods. We develop two computer programs for shock-fitting and shock-capturing computations. The approach was earlier applied by the authors to the analysis of a variational wave equation, namely, to the solution of the Euler-Lagrange equation for a variational problem with a single unknown function.     

Dopant-modulated pair interaction in cuprate superconductors

A comparison of recent experimental STM data with single-impurity and many-impurity Bogoliubov-de Gennes calculations strongly suggests that random out-of-plane dopant atoms in cuprates modulate the pair interaction locally. This type of disorder is crucial to understanding the nanoscale electronic inhomogeneity observed in BSCCO-2212, and can reproduce observed correlations between the positions of impurity atoms and various aspects of the local density of states such as the gap magnitude and the height of the coherence peaks. Our results imply that each dopant atom modulates the pair interaction on a length scale of order one lattice constant.     

Synthesis of 1,4,5,6-tetrahydropyridine derivatives starting from trans-3-chloro-1,3-alkadien-5-ones

A method has been developed for the synthesis of 3-carbethoxy-2-methyl-6-(oxoalkylidene)-1,4,5,6-tetrahydropyridines by reaction of trans-3-chloro-1,3-alkadien-5-ones with ethyl aminocrotonate. It is shown that the corresponding vinylacetylanic ketones are intermediate products of the reactions.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 4, pp. 497–500, April, 1987.     

Search for sub-eV mass solar axions by the CERN Axion Solar Telescope with 3He buffer gas

The CERN Axion Solar Telescope (CAST) has extended its search for solar axions by using (3)He as a buffer gas. At T=1.8 K this allows for larger pressure settings and hence sensitivity to higher axion masses than our previous measurements with (4)He. With about 1 h of data taking at each of 252 different pressure settings we have scanned the axion mass range 0.39 eV?m(a)?0.64 eV. From the absence of excess x rays when the magnet was pointing to the Sun we set a typical upper limit on the axion-photon coupling of g(aγ)?2.3×10(-10) GeV(-1) at 95% C.L., the exact value depending on the pressure setting. Kim-Shifman-Vainshtein-Zakharov axions are excluded at the upper end of our mass range, the first time ever for any solar axion search. In the future we will extend our search to m(a)?1.15 eV, comfortably overlapping with cosmological hot dark matter bounds.     

New results for global stability of a class of neutral-type neural systems with time delays

This paper studies the global convergence properties of a class of neutral-type neural networks with discrete time delays. This class of neutral systems includes Cohen–Grossberg neural networks, Hopfield neural networks and cellular neural networks. Based on the Lyapunov stability theorems, some delay independent sufficient conditions for the global asymptotic stability of the equilibrium point for this class of neutral-type systems are derived. It is shown that the results presented in this paper for neutral-type delayed neural networks are the generalization of a recently reported stability result. A numerical example is also given to demonstrate the applicability of our proposed stability criteria.
