Three distinct electronic states were detected for positive muons (+) after implantation into a C60 powder sample. About 40% of the + remained in the bare (diamagnetic) state, essentially an interstitial charged point particle. The rest of the muons were found to thermalize predominantly in two muonium (Mu=+ e) atomic species. A vacuum Mu state, with hyperfine coupling close to that of free Mu, most likely at the molecular center, and a muonic substituted radical, i.e. a hydrogen-like Mu addition to double bonds on the carbon rings. This opens up a rich subfield of fullerene spectroscopy using muons.  相似文献

Crystalline (cr-) Dyag [CsC] structure] orders antiferro-magnetically with TN≅60K; amorphous (am-) DyAg ferro-magnetically with TC≈-18K. We measured the longitudinal field (LF) μ+SR relaxation functions GZZ(t) for 5K<T<300K using surface muons. In the paramagnetic state. cr-DyAg gives an exponential GZZ (t) in the relaxation rate rising first slowly then more rapidlynear TN; no decoupling is observed in LF up to 0.4T. In the ordered state we see a Lorentzian Kubo-Toyabe GZZ(t), becoming nearly static at the lowest temperatures. Its static width is very narrow (Δ≈-7 MHz), and full dceoupling is achieved here in 0.1 T. On approaching TN, the fluctuation rate and the static width increase mootonically bt the field distribution remains Loratzian. A LF of 0.4T is then insufficient to quench the fast exponential relaxation. In paramagnetic am-DyAg, the μ+ depolarization is always much faster then in cr-DyAg. At lower temperatures it is better described by a root-exponential than an exponential GZZ(t). Below TC an exponentially relaxing signal with 1/3 amplitude is seen. The decoupling effect of LF up to 0.4T was negligible at all temperatures.  相似文献

Magnetic resonance of a spin system which is acted upon by a large near-resonance oscillating magnetic field transverse to a static field has been studied experimentally and theoretically for many years. The technique of DEMUR (Double Electron Muon Resonance) has many advantages for such studies. This paper will describe the results of an experiment to study the precession of the muonium triplet near magnetic resonance using DEMUR.  相似文献

The behavior of muonium on the surface of finely divided silica (amorphous SiO2) powder (mean grain diameter 70 Å) has been studied as a function of the surface concentration of hydroxyl groups. The temperature dependence of the Mu relaxation rate in transverse field was measured for samples prepared with 0%, 50% and 70% of the surface hydroxyl groups removed over the temperature range 4 K <T < 300 K. The relaxation rate shows a distinct maximum at about 25 K and a minimum at about 16 K for all three samples, and shows a dramatic decrease below 16 K as the concentration of surface hydroxyls is reduced. A three-state nonequilibrium model describing the diffusion and trapping of muonium on the silica surface is used to interpret the data.On leave from Department of Physics, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Sask. Two samples of DyAl2 were studied by longitudial μSR in the paramagnetic and ferromagnetic regime. In a region Tc±40 K the samples give different signals although X-ray analysis can not detect any impurity phase in either of them.  相似文献
