The self-mixing interference in dual-polarization microchip Nd: YA G lasers is demonstrated. Under optical feedback, the orthogonal polarization components of the laser would undergo antiphase intensity modulations; at high feedback level, the polarization switching appears. We also observe that the laser self-mixing sensitivity changes periodically with the frequency difference of orthogonal polarizations. An initial theoretical model is put out and agrees well with the experiments. The results are useful for self-mixing sensitivity enhancement and offer a new way of absolute distance measurement. 相似文献

The orthogonally linearly polarized dual frequency Nd: YA G lasers with two quarter wave plates in laser resonator are proposed. The intra-cavity variable birefringence, which is caused by relative rotation of these two wave plates in laser inner cavity, results in the frequency difference of the dual frequency laser also changeable. The theory model based on the Jones matrix is presented, as well as experimental results. The potential application of this phenomenon in precision roll-angle measurement is also discussed. 相似文献

We present a novel precise angle measurement scheme based on parallel multiplex laser feedback interferometry (PLFI), which outputs two parallel laser beams and thus their displacement difference reflects the angle variation of the target. Due to its ultrahigh sensitivity to the feedback light, PLFI realizes the direct non-contact measurement of non- cooperative targets. Experimental results show that PLFI has an accuracy of 8" within a range of 1400". The yaw of a guide is also measured and the experimental results agree with those of the dual-frequency laser interferometer Agilent 5529A. 相似文献

External anisotropic feedback effects on the phase difference behaviour of output intensities in a microchip Nd:YAG laser are presented. By rotating a quarter wave plate placed in the external cavity, the angle between laser initial polarization direction and o-axis of the wave plate is tuned from -45°to 45°, which results in variable extra-cavity birefringence along two orthogonal detection directions. With only one optical path and one wave plate, laser intensities of the two orthogonal directions, both modulated by the external cavity length, are output with a tunable phase difference, which can be continuously changed from zero to twice as large as that of the waveplate. Experimental results as well as a theoretical analysis based on Fabry-Perot cavity equivalent model and the refractive index ellipsoid, are presented. This paper investigates the intensity tuning characteristics of a double
longitudinal modes He--Ne laser subjected to optical feedback. The intensity
undulations of the total light and the two modes are observed for different external
cavity length. Two modulations of the internal cavity length are performed. One is
only for the internal cavity length being modulated and the other is for both the
internal and the external cavity length being modulated. The undulation frequency of
the total light is found to be determined by the ratio of external cavity length to
internal cavity length in both modulations. When the external cavity length is
integral times of the internal cavity length, the fringe frequency of the total
light could be seven or even more times of that in conventional optical feedback. A
simple theoretical analysis is presented, which is in good agreement with the
experimental results. The potential use of the experimental results is also
