Plutonium-239 sorption and transport on/in unsaturated sediments: comparison of batch and column experiments for determining sorption coefficients

Sorption (distribution) coefficients of plutonium were most often derived by static batch experiments. However, it is not clear how unsaturated flow conditions including moisture content and pore water velocity change the sorption coefficients. Transport experiments of plutonium through the unsaturated sediments packed into the columns were then performed in order to determine the sorption coefficients (column-K _ds). Static batch experiments were also conducted to obtain batch-K _ds and then compare the differences between batch-K _ds and column-K _ds. The results show that unsaturated flow conditions had no significant effect on column-K _ds, and the average column-K _d value was 1.74 ± 0.02 m³/kg. By comparison, batch-K _d values spanned several orders of magnitude, regardless of the specified liquid–solid conditions. Moreover, the batch-K _d (22.7 m³/kg) at the standard L/S (4 mL/g) recommended by ASTM D 4319 was over an order of magnitude larger than the average column-K _d.

Antimicrobial and hemolytic activities of copolymers with cationic and hydrophobic groups: a comparison of block and random copolymers

Random and diblock copolymers of 2-(N,N-dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate and butyl methacrylate are prepared by ATRP. As mimics of cationic antimicrobial peptides, the random and diblock copolymers show similar antimicrobial activities. In contrast, the diblock copolymers have much lower hemolytic activities than the random copolymers. The cell selectivity (HC(50)/MIC, where HC(50) is the concentration to lyse 50% of human red blood cells and MIC is the minimum concentration to inhibit bacterial growth) of the diblock copolymers are 150 to 27,500 times higher than that of random copolymers with similar compositions.

基于相空间重构的PHM数据处理算法研究

采集数据的非线性特性极大地限制了故障预测与健康管理技术(PHM)在飞机自主保障能力中的应用,提出了一种基于相空间重构的数据处理方法;首先,对PHM技术进行了系统研究,并对数据处理进行了分析;然后,根据数据处理的特点,分别采用自相关法、复自相关法、FNN法和C-C法计算相关的延迟时间及嵌入维数;最后,通过仿真对比分析以上几种方法得到的延迟时间与嵌入维数;结果表明作为一种联合计算延迟时间和嵌入维数的数据处理方法,C-C法可以同时计算延迟时间τ为3和嵌入维数m为6。     

Koopman analysis of nonlinear systems with a neural network representation

The observation and study of nonlinear dynamical systems has been gaining popularity over years in different fields. The intrinsic complexity of their dynamics defies many existing tools based on individual orbits, while the Koopman operator governs evolution of functions defined in phase space and is thus focused on ensembles of orbits, which provides an alternative approach to investigate global features of system dynamics prescribed by spectral properties of the operator. However, it is difficult to identify and represent the most relevant eigenfunctions in practice. Here, combined with the Koopman analysis, a neural network is designed to achieve the reconstruction and evolution of complex dynamical systems. By invoking the error minimization, a fundamental set of Koopman eigenfunctions are derived, which may reproduce the input dynamics through a nonlinear transformation provided by the neural network. The corresponding eigenvalues are also directly extracted by the specific evolutionary structure built in.     

Accelerating Cycle Expansions by Dynamical Conjugacy

Periodic orbit theory provides two important functions—the dynamical zeta function and the spectral determinant for the calculation of dynamical averages in a nonlinear system. Their cycle expansions converge rapidly when the system is uniformly hyperbolic but greatly slow down in the presence of non-hyperbolicity. We find that the slow convergence can be attributed to singularities in the natural measure. A properly designed coordinate transformation may remove these singularities and results in a dynamically conjugate system where fast convergence is restored. The technique is successfully demonstrated on several examples of one-dimensional maps and some remaining challenges are discussed.
