Ascorbic acid is the most common electroactive biological compound found in some plant species (e.g., Citrus species, Rosa species). The electrochemical oxidation of ascorbic acid was investigated by cyclic, linear sweep, differential pulse (DPV), and square wave (SWV) voltammetry. For analytical purposes, a very well-resolved diffusion-controlled voltammetric peak was obtained in acetate buffer at pH 3.50 for DPV and SWV. The linear response was obtained in the range of 3.52–176.1 μg/mL with a detection limit of 0.88 μg/mL for DPV and 0.52 μg/mL for SWV. Based on this study, simple, rapid, selective, and sensitive voltammetric methods were developed for the determination of ascorbic acid in pharmaceutical dosage forms and Rosa species (R. dumalis ssp. boissieri var. boissieri, R. canina, R. pulverulenta, R. heckeliana ssp. vanheurckiana, and R. montana subsp. woronowii). The results obtained are compared with the HPLC data. The developed methods enable the extracts to be analyzed without the necessity of any time-consuming separation. Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) films were modified by RF oxygen plasma with various powers applied for different periods, and the effects of these parameters on the surface properties such as hydrophilicity, surface free energy (SFE), chemistry, and topography were investigated by water contact angle, goniometer, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and atomic force microscopy, and the types of the created free radicals and their decay were detected by electron spin resonance spectroscopy (ESR). SFE and contact angle results varied depending on the plasma parameters. Oxygen plasma treatment (100 W–30 min) enhanced the hydrophilicity of PMMA surface as shown by decreasing the water contact angle from 70° to 26°. XPS analysis showed the change in the amounts of the present functionalities as well as formation of new groups as free carbonyl and carbonate groups. The roughness of the surface increased considerably from ~2 nm to ~75 nm after 100 W–30 min oxygen plasma treatment. ESR analysis indicated the introduction of peroxy radicals by oxygen plasma treatment, and the intensity of the radicals increased with increasing the applied power. Significant decrease in radical concentration was observed especially for the samples treated with higher powers when the samples were kept under the atmospheric conditions. As a conclusion, RF plasma, causes changes in the chemical and physical properties of the materials depending on the applied parameters, and can be used for the creation of specific groups or radicals to link or immobilize active molecules onto the surface of a material. Two novel secondary metabolites, compounds (1-2) were isolated from the roots of Paronychia chionaea. On the basis of spectroscopic data including 1D and 2D NMR experiments (COSY, TOCSY, HSQC, and HMBC), and mass spectroscopy, their structures were established as 6-C-[alpha-L-arabinopyranosyl-( 1 --> 2)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl]-7-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl]-luteolin 3'-methyl ether (1), and 2-(methoxy)-2-(3,5-dimethoxy 4-hydroxyphenyl)-ethane-1,2-diol 1-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (2).  相似文献

Street dust composition is an important environmental parameter that should be considered in investigations of environmental pollution originating from traffic. In this study, fifty-six samples of street dusts were collected during the period December 2003-April 2004 from Pendik to Levent on E-5 highway in Istanbul, Turkey. Analyses were determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry after digestion using USEPA, 1996 (Method 3050B). The mean concentration levels of Pb, Mn, Zn, Ni, Cd and Cu were found to be 368.3, 747.8, 431.2, 27.1, 0.3 and 191.1 microg/g respectively. Pb, Cu, Zn and Mn mean concentrations in studied areas were higher than levels of these heavy metals according to USEPA (1992) and Republic of Turkey Ministry of Environment and Foresty (2003). Highly significant correlations except for Mn were found between the number of vehicles and heavy metal concentrations.  相似文献

In this study, molecular dynamics simulations are performed by using a modified form of Morse potential function in the framework of the Embedded Atom Method (EAM). Temperature-and pressure-dependent behaviours of bulk modulus, second-order elastic constants (SOEC), and the linear-thermal expansion coefficient is calculated and compared with the available experimental data. The melting temperature is estimated from 3 different plots. The obtained results are in agreement with the available experimental findings for iridium.   相似文献

Due to the wave of mergers that have taken place in the USA, the early 1990s could be labelled as a restructuring era for health care systems. The question of whether mergers have an impact on organizational performance is still an area of interest for health services researchers. In this study, we examined the impacts of horizontal mergers of US hospital's technical efficiency before and after merger using longitudinal Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The findings of our study illustrate that mergers do increase a hospital's level of efficiency. Constant returns-to-scale model indicated an overall reduction in input utilisation after merger, compared to variable returns-to-scale model. This indicates the role of scale efficiency as a dominant source of improvement in inefficiency of hospitals involved in horizontal mergers, but not for technical efficiency. Suggestions for future study are provided.  相似文献

There are many studies to improve the properties of Cu–Al–Mn shape memory alloys, such as high transformation temperatures, ductility and workability. Most of them have been performed by adding a quaternary component to the alloy. In this study, the effect of trace Mg addition on transformation temperatures and microstructures of three different quaternary Cu–Al–Mn–Mg alloys has been investigated using thermal analysis, optical microscopy and XRD techniques. The transformation temperatures are within the range of 120–180 °C, and they have not changed significantly on decreasing the Mn content, replacing with Mg. The fine precipitates have been observed in the alloys with the Mg content up to 1.64 at%. Calculated entropy change and XRD analysis reveal that the alloys with high Al content have mainly 18R-type structure which could be responsible for good ductility and workability.  相似文献

Viscoplasticity theory based on overstress (VBO) which is one of the unified state variable theories is extended to account for crystallinity ratio () on mechanical behavior of semicrystalline polymers. The modifications on VBO are done considering the semicrystalline polymeric materials somewhat as a composite material since it consists of amorphous and crystalline phases. Amorphous and crystalline phase resistances are arranged in two different analog models: amorphous stiffness and flow are in parallel and series with crystalline phase. Apart from many existing work in the literature, not only uniaxial loading are modeled but also creep and relaxation behaviors are simulated for a hypothetical material. It is shown that when amorphous and crystalline phase resistances acting in parallel are considered in the model, creep, relaxation and uniaxial loading and unloading behaviors can be simulated well using the modified VBO. In addition, uniaxial compression loading and unloading behavior of highly crosslinked ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and creep behavior of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) with different crystallinity ratios are simulated using the proposed VBO model where amorphous and crystalline phases are parallel. Simulation results are compared to the experimental data by Kurtz et al. (2002) and Sun et al. (2005) [Kurtz, S.M., Villarragaa, M.L., Herra, M.P., Bergström, J.S., Rimnacc, C.M., Edidin, A.A., 2002. A rapid, simple, selective and sensitive method for the spectrophotometric determination of nitrite in water has been developed and optimum reaction conditions along with other analytical parameters have been evaluated. Nitrite reacts with barbituric acid in acidic solution to give the nitroso derivative, violuric acid. At analytical wavelength of 310 nm, Beer's law is obeyed over the concentration range 0.00–3.22 ppm of nitrite. The molar absorptivity is 15330 ± 259.7 (95%) with pooled standard deviation of 355.57 and R.S.D. of 2.32%. As well as the method is sensitive (2.99 × 10−3 μg NO2 cm−2) and selective, it tolerates most of the potential interferents. It has been successfully applied to nitrite determination in natural waters by use of a calibration graph with determination limit of 1.66 μg NO2 in 100 mL working solution corresponding to minimum 9.5 ppb NO2–N in water samples. Lower concentrations of nitrite (3.0 μg NO2/L sample) is precisely analyzed by using the method of dilution with sample, with R.S.D. of lower than 0.5%. The results were compared with standard N-(1-naphtyl)ethylenediamine dihydrochloride method and very good agreement between the data was observed.
