Short α‐peptides with less than 10 residues generally display a low propensity to nucleate stable helical conformations. While various strategies to stabilize peptide helices have been previously reported, the ability of non‐peptide helical foldamers to stabilize α‐helices when fused to short α‐peptide segments has not been investigated. Towards this end, structural investigations into a series of chimeric oligomers obtained by joining aliphatic oligoureas to the C‐ or N‐termini of α‐peptides are described. All chimeras were found to be fully helical, with as few as 2 (or 3) urea units sufficient to propagate an α‐helical conformation in the fused peptide segment. The remarkable compatibility of α‐peptides with oligoureas described here, along with the simplicity of the approach, highlights the potential of interfacing natural and non‐peptide backbones as a means to further control the behavior of α‐peptides.  相似文献

Polarized planar array infrared (PA-IR) spectroscopy is shown for the first time to be a powerful approach to study the mechanical deformation of polymers. A dual-beam PA-IR spectrometer was built to enable the simultaneous recording of parallel- and perpendicular-polarized spectra at the same sample spot. The technique provides orientation and structural information during and after fast irreversible deformations with a low-ms (or sub-ms) time resolution and a low data scatter. In proof-of-concept experiments, the possibilities of polarized PA-IR spectroscopy are illustrated by studying the deformation of poly(ethylene terephthalate) thin films.  相似文献

The Carman–Kozeny correlation is applied to a medium which is consolidated, highly porous and anisotropic: the expanded then compressed natural graphite. The effective textural properties (i.e. the mean pore diameter, porosity and tortuosity) have been measured by a mercury porosimeter and a heterogeneous diffusion cell. The texture and the permeability (according to the Darcy's law) measured for the two main directions of these orthotropic porous media change over a very wide range depending on their apparent mass densities. Experimental data show that only a part of the total porosity participates in the gas flow in steady state conditions.  相似文献

The heat transfer in a highly conductive material constituted by a graphite matrix in which a granular phase is dispersed is studied. The effective thermal conductivity of this anisotropic porous composite medium used in solid–gas reactors can vary largely with the component fractions. The effect of the dispersed grains on the deformable structure of the matrix is considered. A model developed on the basis of thermal tortuosity by analogy with mass transfer is adequately correlated with experimental results.  相似文献
