A solution to the problem of shallow laminar water flow above a porous surface is essential when modeling phenomena such as erosion, resuspension, and mass transfer between the porous media and the flow above it. Previous studies proposed theoretical, experimental, and numerical insight with no single general solution to the problem. Many studies have used the Brinkman equation, while others showed that it does not represent the actual interface flow conditions. In this paper we show that the interface macroscopic velocity can be accurately modeled by introducing a modification to the Brinkman equation. A moving average approach was proved to be successful when choosing the correct representative elementary volume and comparing the macroscopic solution with the average microscopic flow. As the size of the representative elementary volume was found to be equal to the product of the square root of the permeability and an exponential function of the porosity, a general solution is now available for any brush configuration. Given the properties of the porous media (porosity and permeability), the flow height and its driving force, a complete macroscopic solution of the interface flow is obtained.  相似文献

The effects of rainfall-induced soil seals on drying processes and on infiltration following drying intervals are simulated for two different soils, a loam and a sandy loam. The simulated drying processes include water content redistribution without evaporation and under a constant evaporation rate of 5 mm day–1. During evaporation, the water content at the seal surface decreases rapidly. A high water content gradient develops within the seal, which increases along the drying interval. It indicates that, at least during the first hours of drying, the seal layer fulfilled all the evaporation demand and therefore dries faster that an unsealed soil where the evaporation is supplied by a much deeper zone of the soil profile. This phenomenon is more accentuated in the loam than in the sandy loam soil. Considering the subsequent infiltration curves during rainfall following different drying intervals, the ponding time and the post-ponding infiltration rates increase when the antecedent drying period is longer, but no significant effect on the final infiltration is found following drying intervals of few days. Also, the water content at the sealed soil surface before rainfall seems to play a major role on infiltration. Very close infiltration curves were obtained after different drying intervals that ended with similar surface water content.  相似文献

The morphology of transcrystalline isotactic polypropylene under tensile stress was studied with wide‐angle synchrotron X‐ray diffraction. The strain was apparently generated predominantly within the amorphous phase because no change in the crystal structure or in the orientation of the lamellae was detected. The results are interpreted in terms of anchoring of the transcrystalline layer to the fiber surface, and the possible consequences of these morphological features on the mechanical properties of the aramid–polypropylene composite as a whole are discussed. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The nonisothermal crystallization of multiwall carbon nanotube (MWNT)/isotactic polypropylene (iPP) nanocomposites was investigated. The results derived from the differential scanning calorimetry curves (onset temperature, melting point, supercooling, peak temperature, half‐time of crystallization, and enthalpy of crystallization) were compared with those of neat iPP. The data were also processed according to Ozawa's theory and Dobreva's approach. These results and X‐ray diffraction data showed that the MWNTs acted as α‐nucleating agents in iPP. Accordingly, MWNT/iPP was significantly different from neat iPP: A fibrillar morphology was observed instead of the usual spherulites. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
