In the course of researching methods of sampling and monitoring toxic metals (as arsenic ions) in water and wastewaters, we selected the use of sorption for in-depth examination. Among other things, sorption modelling was investigated by the mechanism of surface complexation in order to describe the process or even predict the outcome for the expected rate, and in general, to develop this detection technique for pollutants. This investigation will include the application of goethite mineral as the suitable metal ion sorbent and the use of appropriate computer software. The relative thermodynamic aqueous speciation of the solution, in similar experimental conditions, was also studied.  相似文献

A theoretical analysis is presented that describes wave-mixing processes in thin holographic gratings for phase-modulated beams. Photodynamic therapy using 5-aminolevulinic acid-induced protoporphyrin IX has been developed as a very useful therapeutic modality. Recently, several authors have reported on the efficacy of this procedure for acne. This approach is based on the fact that 5-aminolevulinic acid-induced protoporphyrin IX has strong selectivity for sebaceous glands. We used the immortalized human sebaceous gland cell line SZ95 to investigate cellular mechanisms of photodynamic therapy using 5-aminolevulinic acid-induced protoporphyrin IX. Quantification of induced protoporphyrin IX production showed dependence on the applied 5-aminolevulinic acid dose. When SZ95 sebocytes were differentiated by arachidonic acid treatment, there was no difference between them and the control cells with respect to both the amount of 5-aminolevulinic acid-induced protoporphyrin IX and the phototoxic effects. We altered protoporphyrin IX formation rates by growing cells scattered as single cells in the culture dishes. Single cells produced significantly lower protoporphyrin IX levels than those grown with intercellular contacts. Intracellular localization of protoporphyrin IX was imaged using confocal laser scanning microscopy. The differentiation-specific lipid droplets were virtually excluded from protoporphyrin IX fluorescence. In addition to weak mitochondrial and strong membrane fluorescence, distinctive spots with strong fluorescence were observed. These did not colocalize with fluorescent probes for mitochondria, lysosomes or the Golgi apparati.  相似文献

The six independent elastic constants (C11, C12, C13, C33, C44, and C66) of single-crystal MgF2 in the rutile structure have been measured by Brillouin spectroscopy at room temperature from ambient conditions to 7.4 GPa. Measurements were performed on two monocrystals with perpendicular faces, (001) and (100). A quasi-linear fit from finite strain theory was applied to the experimental data revealing the pressure dependence of the six elastic constants of MgF2. The shear modulus CS=1/2(C11C12), and the aggregate shear (Voigt–Reuss–Hill) modulus G show a softening with increasing pressure, indicating the approach of the rutile-to-CaCl2-type structural phase transition at P~9 GPa. The adiabatic bulk modulus (Reuss average) and its pressure derivative have been determined: K0S=105.1±0.3 GPa, (∂K0S/∂P)T=4.14±0.05. The pressure–volume equation of state of MgF2 was computed self-consistently from the Brillouin data. Our results are in good agreement with X-ray diffraction data. As the phase transition is approached, MgF2 becomes strongly anisotropic and develops partially auxetic behavior (a negative Poisson's ratio in certain directions).  相似文献

Dilute aqueous solutions, generated or used by industry, can contain a variety of different metal ions. Various processes are suitable for reclamation of toxic metals and among them, attention is paid here to biosorption. The ability of microorganisms to remove metal ions from solution is a well known phenomenon. Industrial applications of biosorption often make use of dead biomass, which does not require nutrients and can be exposed to environments of high toxicity. Experimental laboratory batch experiments are described for actinomycetes, fungi and for activated sludge, as the metal biosorbents, providing insight into cadmium biosorption. Non-living biomass showed greater binding capacities for cadmium (a priority pollutant) than living biomass. Engineering considerations are central in decisions concerning the commercial future of biosorption and a practical solution is needed for certain problems, such as the efficient separation of metal-loaded biomass.  相似文献

Polarization effects associated with two-wave interaction in Bi12TiO20 and Bi12SiO20 crystals are investigated. The experimental data are subjected to the required theoretical analysis. A new procedure is proposed for determining the density of acceptor centers (N A) in photorefractive crystals. The values of N A obtained by this procedure are in good agreement with published data. Background  

Dentin sialophosphoprotein (Dspp) is a multidomain, secreted protein that is critical for the formation of tooth dentin. Mutations in DSPP cause inherited dentin defects categorized as dentin dysplasia type II and dentinogenesis imperfecta type II and type III. Dentin sialoprotein (Dsp), the N-terminal domain of dentin sialophosphoprotein (Dspp), is a highly glycosylated proteoglycan, but little is known about the number, character, and attachment sites of its carbohydrate moieties.  相似文献
