Cumulant functions are introduced to describe the statistical state of a radiation field. These functions are simply related to the optical coherence functions but have some interesting features. It is shown that if the cumulant functions of all orders greater than some numberN 0 vanish then they also vanish for all orders greater than 2. Thermal field is the only field having this property. This property holds whether the field is described by a classical stochastic process or by a quantum density operator. Further the particular operator ordering used in defining these cumulant functions for the quantized field affects only the second order cumulant function. To describe the statistical state of a vector field such as partially polarized or unpolarized radiation, one would need to introduce cumulant tensors.  相似文献

We present a novel approach for the determination of activation energy for the unimolecular dissociation of a large (>50 atoms) ion, based on measurement of the unimolecular dissociation rate constant as a function of continuous-wave CO(2) laser intensity. Following a short ( approximately 1 s) induction period, CO(2) laser irradiation produces an essentially blackbody internal energy distribution, whose 'temperature' varies inversely with laser intensity. The only currently available method for measuring such activation energies is blackbody infrared radiative dissociation (BIRD). Compared with BIRD, FRAGMENT: (a) eliminates the need to heat the surrounding ion trap and vacuum chamber to each of several temperatures (each requiring hours for temperature equilibration); (b) offers a three-fold wider range of effective blackbody temperature; and (c) extends the range of applications to include initially cold ions (e.g., gas-phase H/D exchange). Our FRAGMENT-determined activation energy for dissociation of protonated bradykinin, 1.2 +/- 0.1 eV, agrees within experimental error to the value, 1.3 +/- 0.1 eV, previously reported by Williams et al. from BIRD experiments. Using a Feshbach resonance, we create ultracold fermionic molecules starting from a Bose-Fermi atom gas mixture. The resulting mixture of atoms and weakly bound molecules provides a rich system for studying few-body collisions because of the variety of atomic collision partners for molecules; either bosonic, fermionic, or distinguishable atoms. Inelastic loss of the molecules near the Feshbach resonance is dramatically affected by the quantum statistics of the colliding particles and the scattering length. In particular, we observe a molecule lifetime as long as 100 ms near the Feshbach resonance.  相似文献

RNA molecules are stabilized by a wide range of noncanonical interactions that are not present in DNA. Among them, the recently classified base-phosphate (BPh) interactions belong to the most important ones. Twelve percent of nucleotides in the ribosomal crystal structures are involved in BPh interactions. BPh interactions are highly conserved and provide major constraints on RNA sequence evolution. Here we provide assessment of the energetics of BPh interactions using MP2 computations extrapolated to the complete basis set of atomic orbitals and corrected for higher-order electron correlation effects. The reference computations are compared with DFT-D and DFT-D3 approaches, the SAPT method, and the molecular mechanics force field. The computations, besides providing the basic benchmark for the BPh interactions, allow some refinements of the original classification, including identification of some potential doubly bonded BPh patterns. The reference computations are followed by analysis of some larger RNA fragments that consider the context of the BPh interactions. The computations demonstrate the complexity of interaction patterns utilizing the BPh interactions in real RNA structures. The BPh interactions are often involved in intricate interaction networks. We studied BPh interactions of protonated adenine that can contribute to catalysis of hairpin ribozyme, the key BPh interaction in the S-turn motif of the sarcin-ricin loop, which may predetermine the S-turn topology and complex BPh patterns from the glmS riboswitch. Finally, the structural stability of BPh interactions in explicit solvent molecular dynamics simulations is assessed. The simulations well preserve key BPh interactions and allow dissection of structurally/functionally important water-meditated BPh bridges, which could not be considered in earlier bioinformatics classification of BPh interactions.  相似文献

Z-DNA and Z-RNA have long appeared as oddities to nucleic acid scientists. However, their Z-step constituents are recurrently observed in all types of nucleic acid systems including ribosomes. Z-steps are NpN steps that are isostructural to Z-DNA CpG steps. Among their structural features, Z-steps are characterized by the presence of a lone pair…π contact that involves the stacking of the ribose O4′ atom of the first nucleotide with the 3′-face of the second nucleotide. Recently, it has been documented that the CpG step of the ubiquitous r(UNCG) tetraloops is a Z-step. Accordingly, such r(UNCG) conformations were called Z-turns. It has also been recognized that an r(GAAA) tetraloop in appropriate conditions can shapeshift to an unusual Z-turn conformation embedding an ApA Z-step. In this report, we explore the multiplicity of RNA motifs based on Z-steps by using the WebFR3D tool to which we added functionalities to be able to retrieve motifs containing lone pair…π contacts. Many examples that underscore the diversity and universality of these motifs are provided as well as tutorial guidance on using WebFR3D. In addition, this study provides an extensive survey of crystallographic, cryo-EM, NMR, and molecular dynamics studies on r(UNCG) tetraloops with a critical view on how to conduct database searches and exploit their results.  相似文献

本文叙述了使用溶胶凝胶法在MgO(0 0 1)的衬底上制备铌酸锶钡薄膜的过程 ,膜层厚度可达 5 μm。通过X射线衍射、摇摆曲线、扫描、拉曼散射光谱等方法研究了薄膜的微结构性能 ,实验发现 ,铌酸锶钡薄膜具有了较好的 (0 0 1)方向的优先取向性能 ,并且随着薄膜厚度的增加 ,其晶体取向性也会随之不断改进。熔石英的透明衬底上生长的SBN薄膜具有较大的电致双折射效应 ,其有效电光系数能够高达 6 6 2× 10 -11m/V。  相似文献

We introduce a class of random velocity fields on the periodic lattice and in discrete time having a certain hidden Markov structure. The generalized Lagrangian velocity (the velocity field as viewed from the location of a single moving particle) has similar hidden Markov structure, and its law is found explicitly. Its rate of convergence to equilibrium is studied in small numerical examples and in rigorous results giving absolute and relative bounds on the size of the second–largest eigenvalue modulus. The effect of molecular diffusion on the rate of convergence is also investigated; in some cases it slows convergence to equilibrium. After repeating the velocity field periodically throughout the integer lattice, it is shown that, with the usual diffusive rescaling, the single–particle motion converges to Brownian motion in both compressible and incompressible cases. An exact formula for the effective diffusivity is given and numerical examples are shown.  相似文献

Jupiter's helium-rich atmosphere contains xenon with excess136Xe and the ratio of r-products more closely resembles “strange” xenon (Xe-X, alias Xe-HL) seen in carbonaceous chondrites than xenon seen in the solar wind (SW-Xe). The linkage of primordial helium with Xe-X, as seen on a microscopic scale in meteorites, apparently extended across planetary distances in the solar nebula, This is expected if the solar system acquired its present chemical and isotopic diversity directly from debris of the star that produced our elements.  相似文献
