The instability degree in the diemnsion of spaces of bivariate spline

In this paper, the dimension of the spaces of bivariate spline with degree less that 2r and smoothness order r on the Morgan-Scott triangulation is considered. The concept of the instability degree in the dimension of spaces of bivariate spline is presented. The results in the paper make us conjecture the instability degree in the dimension of spaces of bivariate spline is infinity.     

Two inequalities involving Hadamard products of positive semi-definite Hermitian matrices

We extend two inequalities involving Hadamard products of positive definite Hermitian matrices to positive semi-definite Hermitian matrices. Simultaneously, we also show the sufficient conditions for equalities to hold. Moreover, some other matrix inequalities are also obtained. Our results and methods are different from those which are obtained by S. Liu in [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 243:458–463(2000)] and B.-Y. Wang et al. in [Lin. Alg. Appl. 302–303: 163–172(1999)].     

Synthesis and biological activity of S-oxo-[(methylthio)-methyl]cysteinols

A convenient route was developed to synthesize S-oxo-[(methylthio)-methyl]cysteinols on a large scale from cheap l-serine as the starting material. The structures of diastereoisomers were determined by NMR, CD spectra, and X-ray diffraction analysis. All four diastereoisomers were examined for their ability to inhibit certain bacteria from growing.     

Fluoroalkylation of aromatics: An intramolecular radical cyclization of 4-chloro-1,1,2,2,3,3,4,4-octafluorobutylbenzenes

In the presence of sodium dithionite and DMSO, the intramolecular radical cyclization of 4-chloro-1,1,2,2,3,3,4,4-octafluorobutylbenzenes is achieved to give the corresponding cyclic compounds in moderate to good yields.     

Pyroelectricity and Spontaneous Polarization in [111] Oriented 0.955 Pb（Zn1/3Nb2/3）O3-0.045PbTiO3 Single Crystals

We report that the measurements of the pyroelectric current of the pre-poled [111]-oriented 0.955 Pb（Zn1/3Nb2/3） O3-0.045 PbTiO3 （PZN-4.5%PT） single crystals can shed some light on the phase transition and spontaneous polarization characters of this material in a similar way to measures of remanent polarization and dielectric properties. The pyroelectric current is measured and the corresponding spontaneous polarization is calculated as a function of temperature with various poling fields added during cooling the sample from 200℃ to room temperature. Critical electric field of 0.061 k V/cm is found to be essential to induce the intermediate ferroelectric orthorhombic phase between the ferroelectric rhombohedral and tetragonal phases. Below the critical field, the polarization increases almost linearly with the increase of poling field. At the critical field, the polarization at 30OC increases abruptly from 14μC/cm^2 for a poling field of O.06kV/cm to 29.5μC/cm^2 for a poling field of 0.061 kV/cm, and afterwards, increases slowly and saturates to 31 μC/cm^2 for poling fields beyond 0.55 kV/cm.     

Performance of various activators in ethylene polymerization based on an iron(II) catalyst system

Ethylisobutylaluminoxane (EBAO) and its analogues were synthesized by a reaction between an triethylaluminum (Et₃Al)/triisobutylaluminum (i‐Bu₃Al) mixture and 4‐fluorobenzeneboronic acid, phenylboronic acid, or n‐butaneboronic acid and subsequent hydrolysis with water. They were used as cocatalysts in ethylene polymerization catalyzed by an iron complex {[(ArN?C(Me))₂C₅H₃N]FeCl₂, where Ar is 2,6‐diisopropylphenyl}. Polyethylene with a high molecular weight and a narrow molecular weight distribution was prepared with modified EBAOs, and the performance of the iron complex at high polymerization temperatures was greatly improved. The activators for the iron complex also affected the polymerization activity and the molecular weight of the resultant polyethylene. It was suggested that the stereo and electronic effects of the substitute groups of aluminoxane contributed to the improved performance of the new activators. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A Quantum Chemical Study on Recognition of Nitro-phenols by Calix[n]arenes

A PM3 calculation in vacuum of the inclusion complexation ofo-, m-, p-nitro-phenol with calix[n]arenes is performedsuccessfully. The pathways for inclusion process are describedand the most probable structures of the 1:1 complex are soughtthrough a potential energy scan. The energy differences betweenthe inclusion complexes and the hosts, by calculation, show thatthe most stable complexation is calix[4]-p-nitro phenol andcalix[6]-m-nitro phenol.     

Pressure and temperature dependence of the gas‐transport properties of dense poly[2,6‐toluene‐2,2‐bis(3,4‐dicarboxylphenyl)hexafluoropropane diimide] membranes

The gas‐transport properties of poly[2,6‐toluene‐2,2‐bis(3,4‐dicarboxylphenyl)hexafluoropropane diimide] (6FDA‐2,6‐DAT) have been investigated. The sorption behavior of dense 6FDA‐2,6‐DAT membranes is well described by the dual‐mode sorption model and has certain relationships with the critical temperatures of the penetrants. The solubility coefficient decreases with an increase in either the pressure or temperature. The temperature dependence of the diffusivity coefficient increases with an increase in the penetrant size, as the order of the activation energy for the diffusion jump is CH₄ > N₂ > O₂ > CO₂. Also, the average diffusion coefficient increases with increasing pressure for all the gases tested. As a combined contribution from sorption and diffusion, permeability decreases with increases in the pressure and the kinetic diameter of the penetrant molecules. Even up to 32.7 atm, no plasticization phenomenon can be observed on flat dense 6FDA‐2,6‐DAT membranes from their permeability–pressure curves. However, just as for other gases, the absolute value of the heat of sorption of CO₂ decreases with increasing pressure at a low‐pressure range, but the trend changes when the feed pressure is greater than 10 atm. This implies that CO₂‐induced plasticization may occur and reduce the positive enthalpy required to create a site into which a penetrant can be sorbed. Therefore, a better diagnosis of the inherent threshold pressure for the plasticization of a glassy polymer membrane may involve examining the absolute value of the heat of sorption as a function of pressure and identifying the turning point at which the gradient of the absolute value of the heat of sorption against pressure turns from a negative value to a positive one. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The perturbation bounds for the solution of weighted kronecker product linear systems using thew-weighted drazin inverse

The classical perturbation theory is extended to the weighted Kronecker product linear systems W(A? B)Wx =h. Upper bounds are derived for the normwise condition number.     

Periodic solutions for a Lotka–Volterra mutualism system with several delays

In the present paper, a Lotka–Volterra type mutualism system with several delays is studied. Some new and interesting sufficient conditions are obtained for the global existence of positive periodic solutions of the mutualism system. Our method is based on Mawhin’s coincidence degree and novel estimation techniques for the a priori bounds of unknown solutions. Our results are different from the existing ones such as those in of Yang et al. [F. Yang, D. Jiang, A. Ying, Existence of positive solution of multidelays facultative mutualism system, J. Eng. Math. 3 (2002) 64–68] and Chen et al. [F. Chen, J. Shi, X. Chen, Periodicity in a Lotka–Volterra facultative mutualism system with several delays, J. Eng. Math. 21 (3) (2004) 403–409].
