Reaction Products of β-Aminopropioamidoximes Nitrobenzenesulfochlorination: Linear and Rearranged to Spiropyrazolinium Salts with Antidiabetic Activity

Nitrobenzenesulfochlorination of β-aminopropioamidoximes leads to a set of products depending on the structure of the initial interacting substances and reaction conditions. Amidoximes, functionalized at the terminal C atom with six-membered N-heterocycles (piperidine, morpholine, thiomorpholine and phenylpiperazine), as a result of the spontaneous intramolecular heterocyclization of the intermediate reaction product of an S_N2 substitution of a hydrogen atom in the oxime group of the amidoxime fragment by a nitrobenzenesulfonyl group, produce spiropyrazolinium ortho- or para-nitrobenzenesulfonates. An exception is ortho-nitrobenzenesulfochlorination of β-(thiomorpholin-1-yl)propioamidoxime, which is regioselective at room temperature, producing two spiropyrazolinium salts (ortho-nitrobezenesulfonate and chloride), and regiospecific at the boiling point of the solvent, when only chloride is formed. The para-Nitrobezenesulfochlorination of β-(benzimidazol-1-yl)propioamidoxime, due to the reduced nucleophilicity of the aromatic β-amine nitrogen atom, is regiospecific at both temperatures, and produces the O-para-nitrobenzenesulfochlorination product. The antidiabetic screening of the new nitrobezenesulfochlorination amidoximes found promising samples with in vitro α-glucosidase activity higher than the reference drug acarbose. ¹H-NMR spectroscopy and X-ray analysis revealed the slow inversion of six-membered heterocycles, and experimentally confirmed the presence of an unfavorable stereoisomer with an axial N–N bond in the pyrazolinium heterocycle.     

On electric-pulse well drilling and breaking of solids

Research work has been carried out to determine the power-efficient regime of operation of an electric-pulse setup for breaking and crushing natural stones. The optimal energy and geometrical parameters of the method (dependence of the degree of breakdown of materials on the voltage and the electrode spacing in the switching unit) have been established. The proposed method makes it possible to effectively perform drilling in vertical wells for installing heat exchangers of thermal pumps.     

A forest building process on simple graphs

Consider the following process on a simple graph without isolated vertices: order the edges randomly and keep an edge if and only if it contains a vertex which is not contained in some preceding edge. The resulting set of edges forms a spanning forest of the graph.The probability of obtaining $k$ components in this process for complete bipartite graphs is determined as well as a formula for the expected number of components in any graph. A generic recurrence and some additional basic properties are discussed.     

Extinction times for a birth–death process with weak competition

We consider a birth–death process with birth rates iλ and death rates iμ+i(i?1)θ, where i is the current state of the process. A positive competition rate θ is assumed to be small. In the supercritical case where λ > μ, this process can be viewed as a demographic model for a population with high carrying capacity around (λ?μ)/θ. The article reports in a self-contained manner on the asymptotic properties of the time to extinction for this logistic branching process as θ → 0. All three reproduction regimes λ > μ, λ < μ, and λ = μ are studied.

Semi-Interpenetrating Hydrogels of Polyelectrolytes,Polymer-Metal Complexes and Polymer-Protected Palladium Nanoparticles

Summary: Semi-interpenetrating hydrogels (SIHs) of polyelectrolytes consisting of poly(acrylamide) hydrogel (PAAH) as matrix and sodium poly(styrenesulfonate) (NaPSS), poly(N,N′-dimethyl-N,N′-diallylammonium chloride) (PDMDAAC), stoichiometric interpolyelectrolyte complex of NaPSS-PDMDAAC, and linear polyethyleneimine-metal complexes (PMC) as well as polymer-protected palladium nanoparticles were prepared by in situ polymerization, e.g. crosslinked acrylamide chains were formed in aqueous solutions of NaPSS, PDMDAAC, NaPSS-PDMDAAC (1:1 mol/mol), PMC and palladium nanoparticles protected by poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP), poly-(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), poly(acrylic acid) (PAA), and linear poly(ethyleneimine) (LPEI) respectively in the presence of N,N′-methylenebisacrylamide. For each system the equilibrium swelling degree α and the parameters n and k describing the mechanism of water transport into SIHs volume was determined. Catalytic properties of SIHs were studied in allyl alcohol hydrogenation and cyclohexane oxidation reactions.
