The ternary rare-earth zinc antimonides REZn1-xSb2 (RE=La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb) were prepared by heating at 1050 °C followed by annealing at 600 °C. For all members, single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies indicated that the Zn deficiency is essentially fixed, corresponding to the formula REZn0.6Sb2, with no appreciable homogeneity range. These compounds adopt the HfCuSi2-type structure (Pearson symbol tP8, space group P4/nmm, Z=2). Single-crystal electrical resistivity measurements confirmed the occurrence of an abrupt resistivity decrease near 4 K for RE=Ce, and a less pronounced one for RE=La, Pr, and Gd. Except for the ferromagnetic Ce (Tc=2.5 K) and antiferromagnetic Tb (TN=10 K) members, all remaining compounds exhibit no long-range magnetic ordering down to 2 K, instead showing temperature-independent (RE=La), van Vleck (RE=Sm), or Curie-Weiss paramagnetism (RE=Pr, Nd, Gd).  相似文献

Icosacerium nonadecamagnesium henoctacontazinc, Ce20Mg19Zn81, synthesized by fritting of the pure elements with subsequent arc melting, crystallizes with an unusually large cubic unit cell [space group F3m, a = 21.1979 (8) Å] and represents a new structure type among the technologically important family of ternary rare earth–transition metal–magnesium intermetallics. The majority of atoms (two Ce and five Zn) display .3m site symmetry, two Ce and one Mg atom occupy three 2.mm positions, one Mg and one Zn have 3m site symmetry, one Mg and three Zn atoms sit in ..m positions, and one Zn atom is in a general position. The Ce20Mg19Zn81 structure can be described using the geometric concept of nested polyhedral units, by which it consists of four different polyhedral units, viz.A (Zn+Zn4+Zn4+Zn12+Ce6), B (Mg+Zn12+Ce4+Zn24+Ce4), C (Zn4+Zn12+Mg6) and D (Zn4+Zn4+Mg12+Ce6), with the outer construction unit being an octahedron or tetrahedron. All interatomic distances in the structure indicate metallic‐type bonding.  相似文献

Investigations in the ternary RE-Mn-Bi systems where RE is an early rare earth element have revealed the existence of the polybismuthides RE3MnBi5 (RE = La-Nd), previously known only for the Ce member, and the new compound Sm2Mn3Bi6. Their structures were determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. The RE3MnBi5 compounds adopt the hexagonal inverse Hf5Cu3Sn-type structure (Pearson symbol hP18, space group P63/mcm, a = 9.7139(11)-9.5438(16) A, c = 6.4883(7)-6.4089(11) A for RE = La-Nd), containing chains of face-sharing Mn-centered octahedra. Sm2Mn3Bi6 adopts a new monoclinic structure type (Pearson symbol mP22, space group P21/m, a = 10.3917(8) A, b = 4.4557(3) A, c = 13.2793(10) A, beta = 108.0100(10) degrees ) in which the Mn centers are coordinated by Bi atoms in diverse geometries (distorted octahedral, trigonal bipyramidal, and distorted tetrahedral (seesaw)) and participate in extensive metal-metal bonding in the form of chains of Mn3 clusters. Homoatomic bonding interactions involving nominally anionic Bi atoms are manifested as one-dimensional Bi chains in RE3MnBi5 and as four-atom-wide Bi ribbons in Sm2Mn3Bi6. Electrical resistivity measurements on single crystals revealed metallic behavior with prominent transitions near 40 K for RE3MnBi5 and 50 K for Sm2Mn3Bi6. Magnetic susceptibility measurements showed that Pr3MnBi5 undergoes magnetic ordering near 25 K.  相似文献

The new lanthanum copper telluride La3Cu5−xTe7 has been obtained by annealing the elements at 1073 K. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies revealed that the title compound crystallizes in a new structure type, space group Pnma (no. 62) with lattice dimensions of a=8.2326(3) Å, b=25.9466(9) Å, c=7.3402(3) Å, V=1567.9(1) Å3, Z=4 for La3Cu4.86(4)Te7. The structure of La3Cu5−xTe7 is remarkably complex. The Cu and Te atoms build up a three-dimensional covalent network. The coordination polyhedra include trigonal LaTe6 prisms, capped trigonal LaTe7 prisms, CuTe4 tetrahedra, and CuTe3 pyramids. All Cu sites exhibit deficiencies of various extents. Electrical property measurements on a sintered pellet of La3Cu4.86Te7 indicate that it is a p-type semiconductor in accordance with the electronic structure calculations.  相似文献

Investigations on phase relationships and crystal structures have been conducted on several ternary rare-earth titanium antimonide systems. The isothermal cross-sections of the ternary RE-Ti-Sb systems containing a representative early (RE=La) and late rare-earth element (RE=Er) have been constructed at 800 °C. In the La-Ti-Sb system, the previously known compound La3TiSb5 was confirmed and the new compound La2Ti7Sb12 (own type, Cmmm, Z=2, a=10.5446(10) Å, b=20.768(2) Å, and c=4.4344(4) Å) was discovered. In the Er-Ti-Sb system, no ternary compounds were found. The structure of La2Ti7Sb12 consists of a complex arrangement of TiSb6 octahedra and disordered fragments of homoatomic Sb assemblies, generating a three-dimensional framework in which La atoms reside. Other early rare-earth elements (RE=Ce, Pr, Nd) can be substituted in this structure type. Attempts to prepare crystals in these systems through use of a tin flux resulted in the discovery of a new Sn-containing pseudoternary phase RETi3(SnxSb1−x)4 for RE=Nd, Sm (own type, Fmmm, Z=8; a=5.7806(4) Å, b=10.0846(7) Å, and c=24.2260(16) Å for NdTi3(Sn0.1Sb0.9)4; a=5.7590(4) Å, b=10.0686(6) Å, and c=24.1167(14) Å for SmTi3(Sn0.1Sb0.9)4). Its structure consists of double-layer slabs of Ti-centred octahedra stacked alternately with nets of the RE atoms; the Ti atoms are arranged in kagome nets.  相似文献

A new series of isostructural ternary rare-earth zinc antimonides RE(6)Zn(1+x)Sb(14+y) (RE = Pr, Sm, Gd-Ho) has been obtained by direct reaction of the elements at 1050-1100 degrees C. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies revealed that these compounds adopt an orthorhombic structure type (space group Immm (no. 71), Z = 2, a = 4.28-4.11 A, b = 15.15-14.73 A, c = 19.13-18.56 A in the progression from RE = Pr to Ho) that may be regarded as stuffed variants of a (U(0.5)Ho(0.5))(3)Sb(7)-type host structure. Columns of face-sharing RE(6) trigonal prisms, centered by Sb atoms, occupy channels defined by an extensive polyanionic Sb network. This network is constructed from three-atom-wide and four-atom-wide Sb strips, the latter being linked together by single Sb atoms in RE(6)Zn(1+x)Sb(14) (RE = Sm, Gd-Ho; y = 0), but also by additional Sb-Sb pairs in a disordered fashion in Pr(6)Zn(1+x)Sb(14+y) (y = approximately 0.6). Interstitial Zn atoms then partially fill tetrahedral sites (occupancy of 0.5-0.7) and, to a lesser extent, square pyramidal sites (occupancy of 0.04-0.12), accounting for the observed nonstoichiometry with variable x. Except for the Gd member, these compounds undergo antiferromagnetic ordering below T(N) < 9 K, with the magnetic susceptibilities of the Tb, Dy, and Ho members following the Curie-Weiss law above T(N). For the Ho member, the thermal conductivities are low and the Seebeck coefficients are small and positive, implying p-type character consistent with the occurrence of partial Zn occupancies. At low temperatures (down to 5 K), electrical resistivity measurements for the Tb, Dy, and Ho members indicated metallic behavior, which persists at high temperatures (up to 560 K) for the Ho member. Band structure calculations on an idealized "Gd(6)Zn(2)Sb(14)" model revealed the existence of a pseudogap near the Fermi level.  相似文献

The ternary antimonides Ln3Pd8Sb4 (Ln=Y, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm) have been synthesized for the first time. The crystal structure of Er3Pd8Sb4 has been solved from the X-ray single crystal data: own type structure, space group Fmm, a=1.3050(1) nm, RF=0.0484, RW=0.0524 for 17 free parameters and 401 reflections with F(hkl)>4σ(F). The structure of Er3Pd8Sb4 can be viewed as a ternary ordered version of the Sc11Ir4-type. The lattice parameters of the isotypic compounds Ln3Pd8Sb4 (Ln=Y, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Tm) have been refined from the X-ray powder diffraction data. The magnetic and electrical properties of the compounds Ln3Pd8Sb4 (Ln=Tb, Ho, Er) have been studied down to 1.75 K. The Ho- and Er-based phases have been found to order antiferromagnetically at 2.5 and 2.0 K, respectively. For all three compounds, the magnetic susceptibility follows in the paramagnetic region the Curie-Weiss behavior with the effective magnetic moments close to the respective free trivalent ion values. All three antimonides studied exhibit metallic character of the electrical conductivity.  相似文献

The γ-radiolysis of solid chitosan was studied. The radiolysis products hydrogen and ammonia were determined by chromatography and spectrophotometry (with Nessler’s reagent), respectively, and the amino groups were determined by potentiometic titration. The radiation-chemical yields were found to be G H 2 = 2.0 ± 0.3; G NH 3 = 5.8 ± 0.4 and G −NH 2 = 2.9 ± 0.8. The molecular mass of chitosan decreases with an increase in the absorbed radiation dose because of its degradation (G D = 3.6 ± 0.4). A long-term posteffect was observed after irradiation. This is a preliminary report on the study concerning the search for optimal conditions of the synthesis of membranes from modified chitosan for removal of cadmium ions.  相似文献
