A series of new 7-benz[c]acridinemethanols and 5,6-dihydro-7-benz[c]acridinemethanols was prepared as rigid, tetracyclic analogs of the antimalarial 2-phenyl-4-quinolinemethanols. Condensation of 5,7-dichloroisatin with 6-chloro-, 7-chloro-, and 6,7-dichloro-1-tetralone furnished halogenated 5,6-dihydro-7-benz[c]acridinecarboxylic acids, which were transformed into the corresponding acid chlorides, acyl malonates, α-bromomethyl ketones, and epoxides. Fully aromatic members of the series obtained via dehydrogenation of the 5,6-dihydro acids were likewise converted into epoxides via the acylmalonate route. Although all the epoxides studied proved to be exceptionally resistant to ring-opening by di-n-butylamine, probably on account of steric effects, they could be cleaved readily with piperidine or morpholine. Nmr spectra of the resulting amino alcohols suggest that these compounds exist in a single preferred conformation stabilized by internal O-H····N hydrogen bonding, and that free rotation about the side chain C-C bond does not occur at room temperature.  相似文献

Low energy electron diffraction (LEED) and cyclic voltammetry were used to examine the surface structure of flame-annealed platinum (100), (110), and (111) electrodes. Well-defined LEED patterns were obtained for these surfaces but only after heat treatment in vacuo at 400°C in order to remove surface contaminants. The cyclic voltammograms correspond to those expected for these low index platinum surfaces from prior studies.  相似文献

[structure: see text] Chitin synthase (CS) polymerizes UDP-GlcNAc to form chitin (poly-beta(1,4)-GlcNAc), a key component of fungal cell wall biosynthesis. Little is known about the substrate specificity of chitin synthase or the scope of substrate modification the enzyme will tolerate. Following a previous report suggesting that 6-O-dansyl GlcNAc is biosynthetically incorporated into chitin, we became interested in developing an assay for CS activity based on incorporation of a fluorescent substrate. We describe the synthesis of two fluorescent UDP-GlcNAc analogues and their evaluation as chitin synthase substrates.  相似文献

The n = 2 effective valence shell hamiltonian, Hv, of carbon is evaluated through second order using 3P Hartree—Fock orbitals (5s4p) with added d functions to provide results within a few percent of the spd convergence limits. The calculated Hv is employed to evaluate the n = 2 valence states of C, C?, C+, C2+ and C3+ with an average deviation of the 21 excitation energies, ionization potentials and electron affinity from experimental values of 0.32 eV. Three-electron parts of Hv contribute substantially to a number of these excitation energies.  相似文献

Cyclic voltammetric measurements of adsorbed Fe- and Co-tetrasulfonated phthalocyanine (TsPc) and Co-phthalocyanine (Pc) have been carried out on ordinary pyrolytic graphite and silver electrodes at different solution pH ranging from 1 to 13. Many voltammetric peaks were found to be pH dependent with a slope of ?59 mV/ unit pH. In some instances this dependence was observed in alkaline or acid solutions only. Electrochemically modulated infrared spectroscopy (EMIRS) has been used to study the changes occurring in polypyrrole films during electrochemical oxidation and reduction. Films containing perchlorate, tetrafluoroborate and ferrocyanide counterions have been studied in both aqueous and nonaqueous electrolytes. With the EMIRS technique it has been possible to detect electrochemically produced changes in the polymer backbone, in the counterion species and in incorporated solvent.  相似文献

Chitin synthase polymerizes UDP-GlcNAc to form chitin (poly-beta(1,4)-GlcNAc) and is essential for fungal cell wall biosynthesis. The alternating orientation of the GlcNAc residues within the chitin chain has led to the proposal that chitin synthase possesses two active sites. We report the results of the first direct test of this possibility. Two simple uridine-derived dimeric inhibitors are shown to exhibit 10-fold greater inhibition than a monomeric control, consistent with the presence of two active sites. This observation has important implications for the development of antifungal agents, as well as the understanding of polymerizing glycosyltransferases.  相似文献

We present a complex multiconfigurational self‐consistent field (CMCSCF)‐based approach to investigate electron‐atom scattering resonances. It is made possible by the use of second quantization algebra adapted for biorthogonal spin orbitals, which has been applied to develop a quadratically convergent CMCSCF method. To control the convergence to the correct CMCSCF stationary point, a modified step‐length control algorithm is introduced. Convergence to a tolerance of 1.0 × 10?10 a.u. for the energy gradient is found to be typically within 10 iterations or less. A method involving the first block of the M matrix defined in the multiconfigurational spin tensor electron propagator method (MCSTEP) based on the CMCSCF reference state has been implemented to investigate 2P Be? shape resonances. The position and width of these resonances have been calculated for different complete active space choices. The wide distribution of the position and width of the resonance reported in the literature is explained by the existence of two distinct resonances which are close in energy. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article reviews some of the applications of physics to the solution of archaeological problems. The use of magnetic, resistivity and electromagnetic surveying techniques for the location of buried features is described. Various methods of age determination are outlined while the problems associated with radiocarbon dating of organic material and thermoluminescent dating of pottery are discussed in detail. The techniques, including petrological examination, chemical analysis and isotopic analysis, employed in the physical examination of archaeological artefacts are described. Examples of the application of these techniques in establishing the source of the raw materials used in pottery, metal and stone implements and in elucidating the techniques of manufacture of pottery and metal objects are also given.  相似文献
