Role of compositional changes on thermal,magnetic, and mechanical properties of Fe-P-C-based amorphous alloys

This work aimed to tune the comprehensive properties of Fe-P-C-based amorphous system through investigating the role of microalloying process on the crystallization behavior,glass forming ability(GFA),soft magnetic features,and mechanical properties.Considering minor addition of elements into the system,it was found that the simultaneous microalloying of Ni and Co leads to the highest GFA,which was due to the optimization of compositional heterogeneity and creation of near-eutectic composition.Moreover,the FeCoNiCuPC amorphous alloy exhibited the best anelastic/viscoplastic behavior under the nanoindentation test,which was owing to the intensified structural fluctuations in the system.However,the improved plasticity by the extra Cu addition comes at the expense of magnetic properties,so that the saturation magnetization of this alloying system is significantly decreased compared to the FeCoPC amorphous alloy with the highest soft magnetic properties.In total,the results indicated that a combination of added elemental constitutes,i.e.,Fe69Co5Ni5Cu1P13C7 composition,provides an optimized state for the comprehensive properties in the alloying system.     

Structural and optical properties of lithium borobismuthate glasses

Glasses with compositions 25Li₂O-(75−x)Bi₂O₃-x B₂O₃, with 0?x?30 mol%, have been prepared using the melt quenching technique. The density and the molar volume have been determined. IR spectroscopy is used as a structural probe of the nearest neighbor environment in the glass network. The optical transmittance and reflectance spectrum of the glasses have been recorded in the wavelength range 400-1100 nm. The values of the optical band gap E_g^opt for indirect transition and refractive index have been determined for 0?x?30 mol%. The average electronic polarizability of the oxide ion α_o²⁻ and the optical basicity have been estimated from the calculated values of the refractive indices. Variations in the different physical parameters such as the density, molar volume, optical band gap, refractive index, average electronic polarizability of the oxide ion and optical basicity with B₂O₃ content have been analyzed and discussed in terms of the changes in the glass structure.     

Absorption characteristics of masjid carpets

This work investigated the absorption characteristics of eight types of carpets that are especially designed and manufactured for masjids and two types of carpets pads. Measurements were carried out in the reverberation room according to ISO 354. Each type was tested three times: first when it was installed directly on the floor, second when it was installed above 5.7 mm of polyurethane foam, and last when it was installed above 10 mm of polyethylene foam. The results showed that the absorption coefficient is directly proportional to frequency and knot density. The results also demonstrated that adding pads of polyurethane or polyethylene foam increased the absorption, principally in the mid-frequency range. The effect of polyurethane foam on absorption was higher than that of polyethylene foam. Finally, the absorption coefficients of the examined carpets were found to be close to those of Muslim worshippers when they are in the position known as “standing in rows”.

tert-Butyl(2-oxo-2H-pyran-5-yl)carbamate as the First Chameleon Diene Bearing an Electron-Donating Substituent

The 2(H)-pyran-2-one bearing electron-donating tert-butylcarbamate (BocNH-) group at the 5- position is a “chameleon” diene and undergoes efficient Diels–Alder cycloadditions with alkene dienophiles with both electron-rich and electron-deficient substituents. Cycloadditions afford the 5-substituted bicyclic lactone cycloadducts regardless of the electronic nature of the dienophile. However, cycloadditions with electronically matched electron-deficient dienophiles proceed faster than those with electronically mismatched electron-rich dienophiles.

Adsorption of phenanthrene on organoclays from distilled and saline water

Isotherms of phenanthrene adsorption on different organoclay complexes were obtained using the HPLC technique to understand the adsorption behavior and to characterize the effect of sodium chloride (NaCl) on the adsorption. The adsorbed amounts of phenanthrene on montmorillonite exchanged by organic cations such as tetraheptylammonium, benzyltrimethylammonium, hexadecyltrimethylammonium, or tetraphenylphosphonium were several times higher than those obtained using montmorillonite clay without surface modification. At the same equilibrium concentration, the adsorbed amount of phenanthrene is higher on clay modified with benzyltrimethylammonium than on clay modified with hexadecyltrimethylammonium or other cations. Adsorption of phenanthrene on clay modified with benzyltrimethylammonium increased dramatically as the concentration of NaCl increased up to 150 g/l in the aqueous solution. The shape of the curves obtained can be classified as S-type. The adsorption data obtained from salinity experiments support a mathematical model that links the Langmuir constant with the salinity constant. This model may be useful to predict the equilibrium concentration of a contaminant in saline solution. FTIR studies showed strong interactions between the aromatic rings of phenanthrene and the preadsorbed benzyltrimethylammonium on clay surfaces.
