Formation of porous matrices from lactide and ε-caprolactone copolymers in supercritical carbon dioxide medium

A series of lactide and ε-caprolactone copolymers containing 4–24 mol % of ε-caprolactone with 20- to 30-kDa molecular weights are synthesized. Based on them, porous materials are produced by foaming in supercritical carbon dioxide. The pore size was shown to decrease with increasing ε-caprolactone content in copolymer, while the porosity of the entire sample was not altered. The resulting pore size also decreases if 7 wt % polyethylene glycol is added to the initial monomer mixture. The Young’s modulus of the porous samples decreases with increasing ε-caprolactone content and when polyethylene glycol is added.

Synthesis and structural studies of (1R,2R,5R)-chloro{o-[β-(2-hydroxy-2,6,6-trimethylbicyclo[3.1.1]hept-3-ylidenamino)ethyliminomethyl]phenoxy-O,N,N}palladium(II)

The reaction of (1R,2R,5R)-3-[{2-[(2-hydroxybenzylidene)amino]ethyl}imino]-2,6,6-trimethylbicyclo[3.1.1]heptan-2-ol with lithium tetrachloropalladate was studied. A chiral palladium(II) complex was thus obtained and its structure was confirmed by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis.     

Features of Spin Exchange in Short-Chain Nitroxide Biradicals in Ionic Liquids

The intramolecular electron spin exchange has been studied by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy in the room temperature ionic liquids (RTIL) 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate (bmimPF₆) and 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (omimBF₄) for three nitroxide biradicals with analogous structures of the connecting bridge between two >N–O· centers as a function of temperature. Temperature variations of the isotropic nitrogen hyperfine splitting constant a, and exchange integral values |J/a| were determined from EPR spectra and analyzed. Thermodynamic parameters of the conformational rearrangements were obtained. The spin exchange in rather rigid short-chain biradicals dissolved in omimBF₄ and bmimPF₆ was compared with that in toluene solutions. Interesting features of the spin exchange in biradicals in RTIL were observed and explained as a result of the specific intramolecular conformational transitions. Examples when rather rigid biradical molecules become flexible under an influence of RTIL are reported.     

Multifrequency EPR spectroscopy of Ho3+ ions in synthetic forsterite

Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of Ho³⁺ single ions and Ho³⁺?Mg²⁺-vacancy-Ho³⁺ associates in holmium-doped forsterite single crystals are studied at 9.4, 37.3 and 65–250 GHz. Crystals were grown from melt by the Czochralski technique in slightly oxidizing atmosphere. For both centers, directions of the principal magnetic axes and parameters of the effective spin Hamiltonians describing dependences of electron-nuclear levels on applied magnetic field are obtained. For Ho³⁺ substituting Mg²⁺ in the M2 site as the single ion and for Ho³⁺ ions in dimer centers, values of crystal field parameters related to a real crystal lattice structure are estimated in the framework of the exchange charge model. The calculated crystal field energies, values of theg-factors of the ground Ho³⁺ quasi-doublet and the directions of the corresponding magnetic moments agree satisfactorily with the data obtained from measurements of EPR and optical absorption and site-selective luminescence spectra.     

Stimulated photon echo with temporal data coding in the Hopfield-Little regime

A model of an optical neural network with associative memory using stimulated photon echo (SPE) with temporal data coding is presented. The electrical field’s calculation of the SPE signals is carried out for case of multiple influences on the resonant medium by optical pulses. A computer model of an optical echo processor with associative retrieval of information is elaborated.     

Influence of the outer-sphere cation nature on the crystal structures of salts with a cis-[Rh(NH3)2(NO2)4]− anion

Complex rhodium(III) salts of the composition cis-M[Rh(NH₃)₂(NO₂)₄]·nH₂O, where M = K⁺, Cs⁺, Ag⁺, (CH₃)₄N⁺, are synthesized and described. Their molecular and crystal structures are determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction.
