We apply the axiomatic approach to thermodynamics presented by Giles to derive a unique measure of entanglement for bipartite pure states. This implies that local manipulations of entanglement in quantum information theory and adiabatic transformations of states in thermodynamics have the same underlying mathematical structure. We discuss possible extensions of our results to mixed and multipartite states.  相似文献

A simulation study of an automated guided-vehicle system connected with an automated vertical transportation system in a large hospital is described. The aim of the study was to determine the allocation and size of storage space for vehicles, the minimum number of vehicles required, the accomplishment of a transportation-network timetable and the queueing situation in the system. This study is part of a simulation study of internal transportation in the new, 1100-bed University Hospital in Zagreb, Yugoslavia, which is under construction.  相似文献

We propose a new way to generate an observable geometric phase by means of a completely incoherent phenomenon. We show how to imprint a geometric phase to a system by adiabatically manipulating the environment with which it interacts. As a specific scheme, we analyze a multilevel atom interacting with a broadband squeezed vacuum bosonic bath. As the squeezing parameters are smoothly changed in time along a closed loop, the ground state of the system acquires a geometric phase. We also propose a scheme to measure such a geometric phase by means of a suitable polarization detection.  相似文献

Application of interdigitated array microelectrodes as electrochemical sensors for determination of antioxidant capacity is reported. Electrochemical measurements with interdigitated electrodes (IDE) were studied in both stationary solutions and the flow system. The method is based on biamperometric measurements using ABTS+|ABTS redox couple in phosphate buffer solution, pH 7.40. During analysis, the ABTS radical cation was enzymatically produced by peroxidase in a tubular flow-through reactor. The performance of bioreactor was tested at different concentrations of immobilized enzyme, ABTS and hydrogen peroxide. The influence of flow rate on proper operation of the bioreactor was also studied. The results of antioxidant activity were determined using Trolox as a standard. The applied IDE detector accomplished good sensitivity of 0.3 nA/μM of Trolox and offered linear range between 20 to 500 μM of Trolox.The comparison of results (R2 = 0.9915) for antioxidant activity between spectroscopic and FIA biamperometric measurements by interdigitated electrodes confirmed the applicability of the proposed method for determination of antioxidant capacity.  相似文献

It is well-known that pure quantum states are typically almost maximally entangled, and thus have close to maximally mixed subsystems. We consider whether this is true for probabilistic theories more generally, and not just for quantum theory. We derive a formula for the expected purity of a subsystem in any probabilistic theory for which this quantity is well-defined. It applies to typical entanglement in pure quantum states, coin tossing in classical probability theory, and randomization in post-quantum theories; a simple generalization yields the typical entanglement in (anti)symmetric quantum subspaces. The formula is exact and simple, only containing the number of degrees of freedom and the information capacity of the respective systems. It allows us to generalize statistical physics arguments in a way which depends only on coarse properties of the underlying theory. The proof of the formula generalizes several randomization notions to general probabilistic theories. This includes a generalization of purity, contributing to the recent effort of finding appropriate generalized entropy measures.  相似文献

This paper describes the performance of a biosensor with an Ru(III), Ni(II), and Fe(II) hexacyanometallate-modified graphite electrode and immobilized oxalate oxidase for the determination of urinary oxalate. The addition of ruthenium enhances the electrochemical reversibility and chemical stability of the electrocrystallized layer and improves the sensitivity of the biosensor. Hydrogen peroxide, produced by the enzyme-catalyzed oxidation of oxalate, was measured at -50 mV vs an Hg Hg2CI2 3M KCl electrode in a solution of pH 3.6 succinic buffer, 0.1 M KCl, and 5.4mM ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid. The linear concentration range for the determination of oxalate was 0.18-280 microM. The recoveries of added oxalate (10-35 microM) from aqueous solution ranged from 99.5 to 101.7%, whereas from urine samples without oxalate (or with a concentration of oxalate below the detection limit) the recoveries of added oxalate ranged from 91.4 to 106.6%. The oxalate in 24 h urine samples, taken during their daily routine from 35 infants and children, was measured and found to range from 0.6 to 121.7 mg/L. There were no interferences from uric acid, acetylsalicylic acid, and urea in the concentration range investigated, but paracetamol and ascorbic acid did interfere. A good correlation (R2 = 0.9242) was found between values obtained for oxalate in real urine samples by 2 laboratories, with the proposed biosensor and ion chromatography, respectively.  相似文献

Can entanglement and the quantum behavior in physical systems survive at arbitrary high temperatures? In this Letter we show that this is the case for a electromagnetic field mode in an optical cavity with a movable mirror in a thermal state. We also identify two different dynamical regimes of generation of entanglement separated by a critical coupling strength.  相似文献

We investigate the entanglement properties of resonating-valence-bond states on two and higher dimensional lattices, which play a significant role in our understanding of various many-body systems. We show that these states are genuinely multipartite entangled, while there is only a negligible amount of two-site entanglement. In this paper we argue that one-way quantum computation can be seen as a form of phase transition with the available information about the solution of the computation being the order parameter. We draw a number of striking analogies between standard thermodynamical quantities such as energy, temperature, work, and corresponding computational quantities such as the amount of entanglement, time, potential capacity for computation, respectively. Aside from being intuitively pleasing, this picture allows us to make novel conjectures, such as an estimate of the necessary critical time to finish a computation and a proposal of suitable architectures for universal one-way computation in 1D.  相似文献
