Spreading of small liquid drops over thin porous layers saturated with the same liquid is investigated from both theoretical and experimental points of view. A theory is presented that shows that spreading is governed by the same power law as in the case of spreading over a dry solid substrate. The Brinkman's equations are used to model the liquid flow inside the porous substrate. An equation of the drop spreading is deduced, which shows that both an effective lubrication and the liquid exchange between the drop and the porous substrates are equally important. The presence of these two phenomena removes the well-known singularity at the moving three-phase contact line. Matching of the drop profile in the vicinity of the three-phase contact line with the main spherical part of the drop gives the possibility to calculate the pre-exponential factor in the spreading law via permeability and effective viscosity of the liquid in the porous layer. Unfortunately, the latter dependency turns out to be very weak. Spreading of silicone oils over different microfiltration membranes is carried out. Radii of spreading on time experimental dependencies confirm the theory predictions. Experimentally found coefficients agree with theoretical estimations.  相似文献

We present a comparative study on the C-H stretching vibrations at air/DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) interface with both the free-induction decay (FID) coherent vibrational dynamics and the sub-wavenumber high resolution sum-frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy measurements. In principle the frequency-domain and time-domain spectroscopic measurements should generate identical information for a given molecular system. However, when the molecular systems are with several coupled or overlapping vibrational modes, obtain- ing detailed spectroscopic and coherent dynamics information is not as straightforward and rather difficult from either the time-domain or the frequency domain measurements. For the case of air/DMSO interface that is with moderately complex vibrational spectra, we show that the frequency-domain measurement with sub-wavenumber high-resolution sum-frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy is probably more advantageous than the time- domain measurement in obtaining quantitative understanding of the structure and coherent dynamics of the molecular interface.  相似文献

The surface tension of water has been measured in quartz capillaries with radii from 200 down to 40 nm. It appears that the surface tension does not differ from the known (bulk) values in the temperature range from 8 to 70 degrees C, within 1% experimental error. The dynamic contact angle, theta(d), vanishes when the capillary surface is covered with a wetting film left behind the receding meniscus. In the case of a dry surface, theta(d) depends on the velocity of the meniscus motion. The results obtained do not agree with presently available theoretical predictions from hydrodynamic theories of dynamic contact angles. Rather the kinetics of water vapor adsorption ahead of the moving meniscus seems to be the major controlling agent of the dynamic contact angle. Copyright 2000 Academic Press.  相似文献

Results are provided here about the stability and bifurcation of periodic solutions for a (neural) network with n elements where delays between adjacent units and external inputs are included. The particular cases n = 2 and n = 3 are discussed in details, to explicitly illustrate the role of the delays in the corresponding bifurcation sets and the stability properties, like a Hopf bifurcation, a pitchfork bifurcation, and a Bogdanov-Takens bifurcation.  相似文献

We investigate the stochastic dynamics and the hopping transfer of electrons embedded into two‐dimensional atomic layers. First we formulate the quantum statistics of general atom ‐ electron systems based on the tight‐binding approximation and express ‐ following linear response transport theory ‐ the quantum‐mechanical time correlation functions and the conductivity by means of equilibrium time correlation functions. Within the relaxation time approach an expression for the effective collision frequency is derived in Born approximation, which takes into account quantum effects and dynamic effects of the atom motion through the dynamic structure factor of the lattice and the quantum dynamics of the electrons. In the last part we derive Pauli equations for the stochastic electron dynamics including nonlinear excitations of the atomic subsystem. We carry out Monte Carlo simulations and show that mean square displacements of electrons and transport properties are in a moderate to high temperature regime strongly influenced by by soliton‐type excitations and demonstrate the existence of percolation effects (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Nano-scale soliton-like supersonic, intrinsic localized excitations in two-dimensional atomic anharmonic lattice layers are here considered. We study the propagation, the velocity and other soliton-like features at head-on collisions of such lattice excitations created by using suitable initial mechanical and thermal conditions. Noteworthy is that narrow, highly-energetic solitons moving along one lattice row are very robust, accompanied by weak anti-phase oscillations in the lateral direction.  相似文献

The electrothermoconvective instability of a plane horizontal layer of weakly conducting fluid in a modulated vertical electric field is investigated. The analysis is based on the electrohydrodynamic approximation. The stability threshold in the linear approximation is found using Floquet’s theory. The effect of periodic modulation on the fluid behavior is studied in both the presence and the absence of the constant component of the electric field. It is shown that modulation can stabilize the unstable ground state or destabilize fluid equilibrium, depending on the amplitude and frequency. In addition to a synchronous or subharmonic response to an external forcing, the instability may be associated with two-frequency (quasiperiodic) perturbations.
