Abstract— The self-sensitized photooxidation of quercetin was not suppressed by superoxide dismutase (SOD), but suppressed by ascorbate. During the suppression of quercetin photooxidation, ascorbate was oxidized. These results suggest the reduction of oxidized quercetin to quercetin by ascorbate. Quercetin photooxidation in the presence of both riboflavin and EDTA was suppressed by SOD by about 90%. The result suggests the participation of O2- in the photooxidation of quercetin. The participation of O2- in the quercetin oxidation was confirmed by a xanthine-xanthine oxidase system. Based on these results the physiological and pharmacological functions of quercetin are discussed.  相似文献

One of the challenges of cellular automaton research is finding models with a low complexity and at the same time a rich dynamics. A measure of low complexity is the number of states in the model and the number of transition rules to switch between those states. In this paper, we propose a 2-dimensional 2-state cellular automaton that-though governed by a single simple transition rule-has a sufficiently rich dynamics to be computationally universal. According to the transition rule, a cell’s state is determined by the sum of the states of the cells at orthogonal or diagonal distances one or two from the cell (distance-2 Moore neighbourhood), but not by the previous state of the cell itself. Notwithstanding its simplicity, this model is able to generate a great variety of patterns, including several types of stable configurations, oscillators and patterns that move over cellular space (gliders). We prove the computational universality of the model by constructing a universal set of logic gates (NOT and AND) from these patterns. A key element in this proof is the shifting of phases and positions of signals such that they meet the input requirements of the logic gates. Similarities of the model with classical spin systems are also discussed.  相似文献

By the addition of hydrogen peroxide to human saliva, chemiluminescence from Cypridina luciferin analog (CCLA) and oxygen evolution were observed. Chemiluminescence was inhibited by inhibitors of salivary peroxidase, azide and cyanide and by a singlet oxygen quencher, crocin. Deuterium oxide (99.75%) stimulated the initial increase of CCLA by15–50% and the integrated CCLA 2.1-3.6-fold. The result suggest that the generation of singlet oxygen by peroxidase in human saliva depends on hydrogen peroxide.  相似文献

We performed electrical resistivity ρ, magnetic susceptibility χ, specific heat C and electron diffraction measurements on single-crystalline samples of PrT2Zn20 (T = Ru, Rh and Ir). The three compounds show the Van Vleck paramagnetic behavior, indicating the nonmagnetic crystalline electric field (CEF) ground states. A Schottky-type peak appears at around 14 K, irrespective of the T element, which can be moderately reproduced by a doublet–triplet model. For T = Ru, a structural transition occurs at Ts = 138 K, below which no phase transition appears down to 0.04 K. On the other hand, for T = Ir, antiferroquadrupole (AFQ) ordering arising from the nonmagnetic Γ3 doublet takes place at TQ = 0.11 K. For T = Rh, despite a structural transition between 170 and 470 K, the CEF ground state is still the non-Kramers Γ3 doublet. However, no phase transition due to the Γ3 doublet was observed even down to 0.1 K.  相似文献

An antiferroquadrupolar ordering at T(Q)=0.11 K has been found in a Pr-based superconductor PrIr(2)Zn(20). The measurements of specific heat and magnetization revealed the non-Kramers Γ(3) doublet ground state with the quadrupolar degrees of freedom. The specific heat exhibits a sharp peak at T(Q)=0.11 K. The increment of T(Q) in magnetic fields and the anisotropic B-T phase diagram are consistent with the antiferroquadrupolar ordered state below T(Q). The entropy release at T(Q) is only 20% of Rln2, suggesting that the quadrupolar fluctuations play a role in the formation of the superconducting pairs below T(c)=0.05 K.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Kondo semiconductors based on rare-earth elements possess a narrow gap in the renormalised density of states near the Fermi level. Their ground states remain nonmagnetic due to strong hybridisation of the 4f state with conduction bands. However, in the orthorhombic compounds CeT2Al10 (T?=?Ru, Os), opening of a hybridisation gap is followed by an antiferromagnetic (AFM) order at a rather high temperature TN???28?K. Our systematic studies of the effects of electron/hole doping on the magnetic and transport properties, electron tunnelling, and spin-gap formation revealed that the hybridisation gap is indispensable for the unusual AFM order. Under uniaxial pressure, TN increases linearly as the orthorhombic b-axis parameter is decreased. Our findings support the model that a kind of charge-density wave developing along the b axis in the presence of the hybridisation gap induces the AFM order in these systems.  相似文献

Abstract— It was found that killing of Neurospora crassa conidia by singlet molecular oxygen generated by a photosensitized reaction in the presence of toluidine blue O, accompanied inhibition of respiration and uptake of the photosensitizing dye by conidia. Both the inactivation of respiration and the uptake of toluidine blue O were stimulated by deuterium oxide and suppressed by azide. Mitochondria of irradiated conidia were swollen and showed matrix of low density under an electron microscope.
These results suggest that singlet molecular oxygen induces the inhibition of respiration and the loss of membrane integrity of Neurospora conidia.  相似文献

Abstract— Quercetin(20–100 μ M ) suppressed photohemolysis sensitized by hematoporphyrin, while ascorbate(10–100 μ M ) stimulated it. However, in the presence of 40 μ M quercetin, ascorbate promoted the suppression. The suppression by quercetin was due to scavenging of both singlet oxygen generated by a photosensitized reaction and radicals generated by decomposition of lipid peroxides formed by a singlet oxygen-dependent reaction. In scavenging, quercetin was oxidized and the oxidation was suppressed by ascorbate. Ascorbate was oxidized by illumination in the presence of quercetin. It is suggested that the cooperation of quercetin with ascorbate in photohemolysis is due to reduction of oxidized quercetin by ascorbate regenerating the flavonol.  相似文献

Abstract— A mutant of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii (NL–11) isolated from a wild type (137c+) was inactivated in the light in the presence of methionine at concentrations where the wild type was not inactivated. The inactivation was suppressed by either catalase or superoxide dismutase (SOD). Light-induced H2O2 formation and nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) reduction inNL–11 were greater than those in the wild type. Methionine stimulated both the H2O2 formation and the NBT reduction inNL–11 as well as the wild type. The light-induced NBT reduction inNL–11 in the presence of methionine was partially suppressed by externally added SOD suggesting the participation of O-2. These results suggest that the hypersensitivity ofNL–11 to methionine in the light is due to stimulated formation of H2O2 and O-2.  相似文献

Procyanidins are contained in various foods, and their effects on starch hydrolysis have been reported. In Japan, black soybeans, which contain a trimeric procyanidin, procyanidin C1 (proC1), are cooked with rice and used to prepare dumplings. In this study, the effects of proC1 on the pancreatin-induced formation of reducing sugars and starch hydrolysis were studied using potato starch and corn starch. ProC1 inhibited both reactions; the inhibition was greater in potato starch than corn starch when added to heated potato starch and corn starch. When heated with proC1, its inhibitory effects decreased, especially in potato starch, suggesting the important role of proC1 itself for the inhibition of potato starch hydrolysis. ProC1 also inhibited the hydrolysis when added to heated, longer amylose (average molecular weight: 31,200), and the inhibition decreased when heated with the amylose. On the other hand, proC1 could not inhibit the hydrolysis when added to heated, shorter amylose (average molecular weight: 4500), but could when heated with the amylose, suggesting the important role of the degradation products of proC1 for the inhibition. We discuss the mechanism of the proC1-dependent inhibition of amylose hydrolysis, taking the molecular weight into account.  相似文献
