Some applications of the condensation of the singularities of families of nonnegative functions

RecentlyPrus-Wi?niowski [14] has proved that the continuous functions of Λ-bounded variation on [0, 1] form a set of the first category in the Banach space C[0, 1] and also in each Banach space CΓBV[0, 1] of continuous functions of Γ-bounded variation on [0, 1] provided that the sequence Γ is adequate. In the present paper these results are extended and completed by using a principle of the condensation of the singularities of a family of nonnegative functions that follows from the theorems given byBreckner [3]. It is shown that Baire category properties similar to those stated in [14] are valid for two very large classes of real-valued functions called functions of bounded λ-variation of orderp and functions of boundedmth variation of orderp, respectively. The benefit of considering these classes is that they comprise several classes of functions of bounded variation type which have occurred so far in Fourier analysis or real analysis; in particular, the functions investigated in [14]. Thus, by specializing the results derived in the present paper, they give at once Baire category information concerning a number of well-known sets of real-valued functions.     

Matlab package for the Schrödinger equation

The paper presents a Matlab package for the linear time-(in)dependent Schr?dinger equation, based on the Hermite spectral method. The matrix form of the discretized problem is suitable for the linear algebra capabilities of Matlab. The high accuracy and efficiency of the algorithm is proved by many examples taken from the literature.      

CaL-B a highly selective biocatalyst for the kinetic resolution of furylbenzthiazole-2-yl-ethanols and acetates

A highly stereoselective enzymatic kinetic resolution of novel various substituted racemic furylbenzthiazole-2-yl-ethanols and their acetates has been developed. Both processes, the enzymatic acylation of the racemic alcohols and the enzymatic methanolysis of racemic acetates yielded highly enantiomerically enriched (ee >98%) resolution product, when CaL-B was used as a biocatalyst in acetonitrile. The absolute configuration of the obtained (R)-(+)-1-(5-(4-chlorobenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)furan-2-yl)ethanol was determined by a detailed ¹H NMR study of rac- and (+)-1-(5-(4-chlorobenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)furan-2-yl)ethanol Mosher derivatives.     

Spin interactions,relaxation and decoherence in quantum dots

We review recent studies on spin decoherence of electrons and holes in quasi-two-dimensional quantum dots, as well as electron-spin relaxation in nanowire quantum dots. The spins of confined electrons and holes are considered major candidates for the realization of quantum information storage and processing devices, provided that sufficiently long coherence and relaxation times can be achieved. The results presented here indicate that this prerequisite might be realized in both electron and hole quantum dots, taking one large step towards quantum computation with spin qubits.     

Multiple positive solutions of non-local initial value problems for first order differential systems

The paper gives a new and natural method for the existence of multiple positive solutions for first order differential systems with non-local initial value conditions involving linear functionals. The case of higher order differential equations is also considered. The results are accompanied by numerical examples confirming the theory and proving for practice the importance of the bounds in solution localization.     

Influence of the Mn(II) and CH4 on the evolution of light induced radicals in chloroplasts

The photochemical activity of the leaves and chloroplasts of several species of plants developed in gaseous hydrocarbon environments (C_nH_2n+2) was investigated by the EPR method. The influence of different concentrations of paramagnetic ions [Mn(II), Cu(II) and VO(II), respectively] on the plants grown in dietary media containing these ions was also followed by EPR spectroscopy. The contents of paramagnetic ions, lower than 0.1%, in the nutritive solutions, are the most suitable in the biosynthesis of chlorophyll-like pigments containing paramagnetic ions in their porphyrine ring. The changes in the form, structure and photosensibility of the EPR signals corresponding to the free radicals, as well as the properties of the pheophytins containing paramagnetic ions, such as: Mn(II), Cu(II) and VO(II), were related to the photochemical synthesis in gaseous hydrocarbon environments.     

Convex solutions to polynomial-like iterative equations on open intervals

The paper deals with the polynomial-like iterative functional equation $\lambda_1 f(x)+\lambda_2 f^2(x)+\cdots+\lambda_n f^n(x)=F(x).$ By using Schauder’s fixed point theorem and a version of the uniform boundedness principle for families of convex (respectively higher order convex) functions as basic tools, the existence of nondecreasing convex (respectively higher order convex) solutions to this equation on open (possibly unbounded) intervals is investigated. The results of the paper complement similar ones established by other authors, concerning the existence of monotonic or convex solutions to the above equation on compact intervals. Some examples illustrating their applicability are provided.     

Synthesis and Antimicrobial Activity of Poly (Oxyethylene)S Functionalized with Quaternary Phosphonium End Groups

Abstract

Poly(oxyethylene)s functionalized with quaternary phosphonium end groups were obtained by converting terminal hydroxyl end groups into phosphoniurn ion groups in the polymer-analogous reactions with phosphines and hydrogmu chloride. The products were characterized by: IR, UV. H NMR spectroscopy, thin-layer chromatography.
