Isoperimetric inequalities are applied to a moving-boundaryproblem for doubly-connected domains. This problem occurs forexample in electrochemistry, in which case the domains in questionare the electrolyte of an electrolytic cell. The two electrodessurrounding the electrolyte are assumed to grow or dissolve,at different rates in general, by electrochemical reaction. We obtain optimal estimates showing, for example, that the leastchange in volume of each electrode always occurs in sphericalsymmetry. 相似文献

The sensitivity for cesium determination by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry is improved four-fold by the addition of a large excess of potassium nitrate. Zeeman background corrections is used to compensate for the large non-specific absorption signal resulting from the potassium. The characteristic concentration and detection limit are 0.44 and 2 μg l?1, respectively, and the coefficient of variation is 2% at the 50 μg l?1 level. The procedure is suitable for the rapid determination of cesium in leach solutions from nuclear waste fixation experiments. 相似文献

Polymer–peptide conjugates (also known as biohybrids) are attracting considerable attention as injectable materials owing to the self‐assembling behavior of the peptide and the ability to control the material properties using the polymer component. To this end, a simple method for preparing poly(ethylene oxide)‐oligophenylalanine polymer–peptide conjugates (mPEOm‐Fn‐OEt) using isobutylchloroformate as the activating reagent has been identified and developed. The synthetic approach reported employs an industrially viable route to produce conjugates with high yield and purity. Moreover, the approach allows judicious selection of the precursor building blocks to produce libraries of polymer–peptide conjugates with complete control over the molecular composition. Control over the molecular make‐up of the conjugates allows fine control of the physicochemical properties, which will be exploited in future studies into the prominent self‐assembling behavior of such materials. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
