Epiphytic bromeliadTillandsia usneoides was used as a biomonitor of metal atmospheric pollution in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. The samples were collected from an unpolluted area and were exposed for 8 weeks in 10 sites of the city and in a control site. The data obtained showed that the control site presented lower concentration for most elements analyzed and the highest concentrations of Na, Cl, Br, K. The highest concentrations of Zn, Cu and V were observed in stations submitted to industrial and vehicular sources. The results obtained for rare earth elements, Al, Fe, Mg, Mn, Rb and Sc indicate mineral dust origin. The elements Ba, As and Sb presented higher values in stations near streets with heavy traffic.  相似文献

This work reviews the studies conducted in this laboratory of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) on electrocatalysts formed by Pt-M/C (M = V, Cr, Co) and Ag-Pt/C alloys and on different Mn oxides (MnO/C, Mn3O4/C, MnO2/C) in KOH electrolyte. The physical and electronic properties of the materials are investigated by in situ XAS (x-ray absorption spectroscopy) in the XANES (x-ray absorption near edge structure) region. The electrocatalytic activity for the ORR on the different catalysts is compared through mass-transport-corrected Tafel plots. The XANES results for the Pt-M/C and Ag-Pt/C composites at high electrode potentials show lower vacancy of the Pt 5d band compared to pure Pt/C, while for the results indicate a chance of the Mn oxidation state as a function of the electrode potential. The electrochemical measurements evidence increased electrocatalytic activity of the Pt alloys compared to pure Pt and this is attributed to a lowering of the adsorption strength of adsorbed oxygen species caused by the reduced Pt reactivity. An activity enhancement of the Ag atoms on the Ag-Pt/C alloys compared to pure Ag is ascribed to an electronic effect induced by the presence of Pt, increasing the Ag-O adsorption strength. In the case of the MnyOx/C materials, the electrochemical results show low activity for MnO/C and higher activity for MnO2/C and Mn3O4/C. This is explained based on the activation for the ORR, which is higher for the material with higher MnO2 contents and the occurrence of a mediation processes involving the reduction of Mn(IV) to Mn(III), followed by the electron transfer of Mn(III) to oxygen. Published in Russian in Elektrokhimiya, 2006, Vol. 42, No. 12, pp. 1417–1426. Based on the report delivered at the 8th International Frumkin Symposium “Kinetics of the Electrode Processes,” October 18–22, 2005, Moscow. The text was submitted by the authors in English.  相似文献

The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) was studied in KOH electrolyte on different manganese oxides, dispersed on a carbon powder (MnOx/C). The oxides were prepared by different methods, for producing MnO, Mn3O4 and MnO2 as major phases dispersed on the Vulcan XC-72 carbon. The oxides were characterized by XRD (X-ray diffraction) and in situ XANES (X-ray absorption near edge structure). The electrochemical measurements were made using cyclic voltammetry and steady state polarization curves carried out in an ultra-thin layer rotating ring/disk electrode. The results have shown lower activity for the ORR on the MnOx/C species compared to that on Pt/C, but higher activity compared to that of pure Vulcan carbon. Formation of involving 2e per O2 molecule is the main path of the ORR in the studied MnOx/C catalysts but, at low overpotentials and rotation rates the number of electrons is raised to 4 due to the occurrence of a disproportionation reaction. Large differences of electrocatalytic activity were seen for the different oxide species, and these were related to the presence of a Mn(IV) phase and the occurrence of a mediation processes involving the reduction of Mn(IV) to Mn(III), followed by the electron transfer of Mn(III) to oxygen.  相似文献

We measured the activity of electrocatalysts, comprising Pt monolayers deposited on PdCo/C substrates with several Pd/Co atomic ratios, in the oxygen reduction reaction in alkaline solutions. The PdCo/C substrates have a core-shell structure wherein the Pd atoms are segregated at the particle’s surface. The electrochemical measurements were carried out using an ultrathin film rotating disk-ring electrode. Electrocatalytic activity for the O2 reduction evaluated from the Tafel plots or mass activities was higher for Pt monolayers on PdCo/C compared to Pt/C for all atomic Pd/Co ratios we used. We ascribed the enhanced activity of these Pt monolayers to a lowering of the bond strength of oxygenated intermediates on Pt atoms facilitated by changes in the 5d-band reactivity of Pt. Density functional theory calculations also revealed a decline in the strength of PtOH adsorption due to electronic interaction between the Pt and Pd atoms. We demonstrated that very active O2 reduction electrocatalysts can be devised containing only a monolayer Pt and a very small amount of Pd alloyed with Co in the substrate. São Paulo is the largest city in Brazil and South America with about 20 million inhabitants in the metropolitan area, more than nine million motor vehicles and intense industrial activity, which are responsible for increasing pollution in the region. Nevertheless, little is known concerning metal and semi-metal content in the soils of this metropolitan region. This type of information could be extremely useful as a fingerprint of environmental pollution. The present study determined the elements As, Ba, Co, Cr, Sb, and Zn concentrations in soils adjacent to avenues of highly dense traffic in São Paulo city to assess their levels and possible sources. The analytical technique employed was Instrumental neutron activation analysis. The results showed, except for Co, concentration levels higher than the reference values for soils of São Paulo, according to the Environmental Protection Agency of the State of São Paulo guidelines. When compared to similar studies in other cities around the world, São Paulo soils presented higher levels, probably due to its high density traffic and industrial activity. The concentrations obtained for As and Cr indicate anthropogenic origin. The high levels of the traffic-related elements Ba, Sb, and Zn in soils nearby high density traffic avenues indicate they may originate from vehicular exhausts.  相似文献

Tungsten carbide dispersed on a high surface area carbon (W2C/C) prepared by a sonochemical method was used as the support of a Pt-based electrocatalyst (Pt-W2C/C). The resulting materials were tested for two important reactions with practical interest in fuel cells, that is, the oxygen reduction and hydrogen oxidation reactions, in acid medium. The electrochemical techniques considered were cyclic voltammetry, linear sweep voltammetry, and steady-state polarization curves, obtained utilizing an ultrathin catalyst layer in a rotating ring–disk electrode. The results showed that the Pt-W2C/C catalyst led to a remarkable enhancement of the oxygen reduction in acid medium, when compared to the standard Pt/C, both following a four-electron mechanism. The hydrogen oxidation reaction showed similar kinetics on Pt-W2C/C and Pt/C following the direct discharge mechanism on both catalysts. The W2C/C support presented remarkable activity for the hydrogen oxidation reaction, most probably after the Heyrovsky–Volmer mechanism at low overpotential and the direct discharge irreversible mechanism at high overpotentials. This paper is dedicated to Prof. Francisco Nart, in memoriam.  相似文献

Rare earth elements (REEs) have several applications and their market demands have increased. Recently, coal fly ash (CFA) has been considered as a source of these elements. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the REEs content in a CFA from a Brazilian coal power plant by instrumental neutron analysis, to classify it according to commercial purposes and to assess the weathering impact in the REEs content, since it is held in fields nearby the power plant. The results pointed no significant REEs leachability and indicated this CFA as a promising REEs source.
