Poly(butylene naphthalate) (PBN), poly(diethylene naphthalate) (PDEN), and poly(thiodiethylene naphthalate) (PTDEN) were synthesized and characterized in terms of chemical structure and molecular weight. The polyesters were examined by TGA, DSC, and DMTA. All the polymers showed a good thermal stability, even though depending on chemical structure. At room temperature they appeared as semicrystalline materials; the effect of the introduction along the PBN polymer chain of ether oxygen atoms or sulfur ones was a lowering in the Tg value, a decrement of Tm, and a decrease of the crystallization rate. Changing in chemical structure also affects the main α absorption associated with the glass transition which moves to lower temperature and whose energetic requirements decrease. The results were explained as due to the presence of highly flexible C? S? C or C? O? C bonds in the polymeric chain. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The morphology and structure of high molecular weight linear polyethylene (M w 450000) filled with carbon black and processed using molds that introduce an elongational flow component during injection molding has been examined using electron microscopy and x-ray diffraction techniques. The study of fracture surfaces reveals the display of shish-kebabs oriented along the injection direction with segregated longitudinal channels of carbon black particles. Molecular and lamellar changes in orientation are, furthermore, studied across the thickness of the moldings. It is shown that addition of carbon black particles to injection-molded polyethylene induces significant changes in lamellar orientation. Thus, while lamellar overgrowth proceeds perpendicular to the fiber axes within carbon free channels, lamellae grow randomly within carbon-enriched regions where flow is less pronounced.  相似文献

The dielectric properties of a series of poly(ester-ether-carbonate) multiblock terpolymers have been investigated as a function of ether and carbonate composition in the frequency range of 103–106 Hz. The degree of polymerization of the samples was determined by viscosimetry measurements. The weight fraction, degree of crystallinity, and melting temperatures were characterized by means of x-ray diffraction and DSC methods. Dielectric behavior has been discussed in terms of Havriliak-Negami formulation. The variation of the dielectric properties with temperature has been associated with two relaxation processes: a) the -relaxation process observed at low temperature, which is associated to local motion of polar groups attached to both the soft and the hard segments, and b) the process assigned to long-range molecular motions above the glass transition temperature.  相似文献

Nanocomposites based on poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and expanded graphite (EG) have been prepared by in situ polymerization. Morphology of the nanocomposites has been examined by electronic microscopy. The relationship between the preparation method, morphology, and electrical conductivity was studied. Electronic microscopy images reveal that the nanocomposites exhibit well dispersed graphene platelets. The incorporation of EG to the PET results in a sharp insulator‐to‐conductor transition with a percolation threshold (?c) as low as 0.05 wt %. An electrical conductivity of 10?3 S/cm was achieved for 0.4 wt % of EG. The low percolation threshold and relatively high electrical conductivity are attributed to the high aspect ratio, large surface area, and uniform dispersion of the EG sheets in PET matrix. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Dielectric spectra of the polyester poly(propylene succinate) were measured upon crystallization. For this model aliphatic polyester the alpha and beta relaxations appear simultaneously and are well resolved in the experimental frequency window. During isothermal crystallization, this fact allows one to use the beta relaxation to characterize the crystalline structural development while the alpha relaxation provides information about the evolution of the amorphous phase dynamics. In this way structure development and dynamics evolution can be characterized by a single experiment during the crystallization process. The unambiguous analysis of the dielectric loss clearly supports the existence of precursors of crystallization in the induction period.  相似文献

The effect of molecular structure on the gamma relaxation dynamics has been studied in a set of aromatic poly(isophthalamide)s. This polymer family differ in the bridge group between phenylene rings [hexafluoroisopropylidene (C(CF(3))(2)) or ether] and also in the presence of t-butyl groups (C(CH(3))(3)) as pendant substituent on the five position of isophthalic ring. The results obtained from wide angle x-ray scattering in the glassy state indicated that both (C(CF(3))(2)) and (C(CH(3))(3)) groups favor the separation between chains, which is reflected on different interchain average distances. Dielectric experiments showed that both bulky groups favor the mobility in the glassy state. Molecular modelling methods were used to know the kind of molecular motions associated to the dielectric relaxation observed below the glass transition temperature.  相似文献

Thin films (5-500 nm thick) of the linear aliphatic polyester (3,7) poly(propylene azelate) (PPAz) were prepared by spin-coating of CHCl(3) polymer solutions with different polymer concentrations. The morphology and structure of the spin-coated thin films were investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and by grazing incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering (GIWAXS) techniques. AFM revealed the continuous nature of the flat, spherulitic films which are stable against dewetting even for polymer coatings as thin as 15 nm. GIWAXS patterns revealed a high crystal orientation of the films. A sharp reflection on the meridian whose spacing is related to the polymer chain unit length (c-axis) supports the presence of flat-on lamellae morphology in the whole range of film thicknesses investigated. The flat-on lamellae morphology is also supported by AFM images. A triclinic unit cell with the c*-axis perpendicular to the substrate is proposed for PPAz. The repulsion of the long aliphatic spacer by the Si-substrate is invoked as the main reason for the flat-on morphology observed.  相似文献

In this work we evaluate the potential of grazing incidence X-ray scattering techniques in the investigation of laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSSs) in a series of strongly absorbing model spin-coated polymer films which are amorphous, such as poly(ethylene terephthalate), poly(trimethylene terephthalate), and poly(carbonate bisphenol A), and in a weaker absorbing polymer, such as semicrystalline poly(vinylidene fluoride), over a narrow range of fluences. Irradiation was performed with pulses of 6 ns at 266 nm, and LIPSSs with period lengths similar to the laser wavelength and parallel to the laser polarization direction are formed by devitrification of the film surface at temperatures above the characteristic glass transition temperature of the polymers. No crystallization of the surface is induced by laser irradiation, and crystallinity of the material prevents LIPSS formation. The structural information obtained by both atomic force microscopy and grazing incidence small-angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS) correlates satisfactorily. Comparison of experimental and simulated GISAXS patterns suggests that LIPSSs can be well described considering a quasi-one-dimensional paracrystalline lattice and that irradiation parameters have an influence on the order of such a lattice.  相似文献
