Tetrajodterephtalsäure-derivate als Röntgen-Kontrastmittel

New monoamides and diamides of tetraiodoterephthalic acid have been synthesized for evaluation as X-ray contrast agents. Solubility, toxicity, bilitropism, urotropism, and in some cases cholecystographic quality of these compounds are given.     

3,7-Dioxaazelaamides as Ionophores for Lithium Ion Selective Liquid Membrane Electrodes

Lipophilic neutral carriers were synthesized which show Li⁺/Na⁺ selectivities of up to ca. 80 in highly lipophilic liquid membranes. The sensor membranes exhibit improved response times and increased lifetimes as compared to systems described earlier. They allow reliable measurements of Li⁺ in blood serum within the clinical concentration range. A 1:1 Li⁺/ionophore complex of one representative (N,N,N′,N′-tetracyclohexyl-5,5-dimethyl-3,7-dioxaazelaamide) has been prepared, and its structure was elucidated by X-ray analysis.     

Pseudopartial wetting and precursor film growth in immiscible metal systems

We explore the equilibrium wetting behavior and precursor film growth in pure and alloy metallic systems. The systems exhibit equilibrium "pseudopartial" wetting, that is, a thin film in equilibrium with a nonzero contact angle in both liquid and solid states. The film spreading kinetics clearly indicates a diffusive transport mechanism. The alloying has only a small impact on the equilibrium wetting properties but strongly affects the transport during the growth of the precursor film.     

The rat liver mitochondrial proteins

Subcellular fractionation increases the probability of detection of low-abundance proteins. We prepared a fraction highly enriched in mitochondrial proteins from rat liver. The proteins were analyzed by two-dimensional (2-D) electrophoresis using broad-and narrow-range immobilized pH gradient strips, and identified by matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization-mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS). 192 different gene products were detected, of which approximately 70% were enzymes with a broad spectrum of catalytic activities. Most of the identified proteins were detected in other rat protein samples as well, which were analyzed in our laboratory. Eight gene products were detected for the first time. These were represented by one spot each, whereas most of the frequently detected proteins were represented by multiple spots. In average, approximately 10-15 spots corresponded to one gene product.
