Structural conversions of rhodamines in solution

A study has been made of the acidic ionization, structural conversions, and prototropic tautomerism of rhodamine chromogens in methanol and dimethyl sulfoxide, using IR, ¹³ C NMR, and electronic spectroscopy. The lactone structure has been established for the colorless form of rhodamines in DMSO. For rhodamine B in mixtures of water with DMSO, the lactone/zwitterion ratio has been estimated.V. I. Reaction of 3-Benzoyl-2,3-dibromopropionic Acid with Substituted ortho-Phenylenediamines

3-Benzoyl-2,3-dibromopropionic acid reacts with 4-substituted o-phenylenediamines to give 3-aryl-2-carboxymethylene-1,2-dihydroquinoxalines.     

Thermodynamic parameters of sublimation of calix[4]arenes

The temperature dependences of the vapor pressure of calix[4]arenes were determined by the Knudsen effusion method. Some calix[4]arenes can form congruently subliming intramolecular compounds with a solvent. The thermodynamic parameters of the sublimation of the compounds were calculated. Molecules of organic solvents incorporated in the cavity of calix[4]arenes stabilize the crystal lattice, increasing the enthalpy of sublimation. The electrostatic interactions presumably make a significant contribution to stabilization of the crystal lattice of stoichiometric complexes of calix[4]arenes with solvents.     

Use of Alternating-Current Plasma Torch for Processing Potentially Hazardous Substances

The decomposition of tetrachloromethane and tetrafluoromethane by air plasma in the presence of methane has been studied using an ac plasma torch of up to 500 kW power with rail electrodes. Methane reacts with air in the partial oxidation mode to form hydrogen, which reacts with a halogen to produce the hydrogen halide.
