New 3-hydroxyflavone derivatives for probing hydrophobic sites in microheterogeneous systems

Nine new 3-hydroxyflavone derivatives as fluorescent molecular sensors having two well-separated emission bands were synthesized. These sensors can occupy well-determined locations and orientations in macromolecular ensembles, such as micelles due to their finely-tuned designs. These polarity-sensitive dyes can incorporate into the anhydrous hydrophobic core of aqueous micelles.     

Synthesis and determination of pKa values of some new 3,4-disubstituted-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-one derivatives in non-aqueous solvents

3-Alkyl(Aryl)-4-amino-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-ones (2) reacted with 2-furoyl chloride and thiophene-2-carbonyl chloride to afford the corresponding 3- alkyl(aryl)-4-(2-furoylamino)-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-ones (3) and 3-alkyl(aryl)- 4-(2-thienylcarbonylamino)-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-ones (4), respectively. The new compounds synthesized were characterized by using IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and UV spectral data together with elemental analysis. In addition, to investigate the effects of solvents and molecular structure upon acidity, compounds 3 and 4 were titrated potentiometrically with tetrabutylammonium hydroxide in four non-aqueous solvents (isopropyl alcohol, tert-butyl alcohol, N,N-dimethylformamide and acetonitrile). The half-neutralization potential values and the corresponding pKa values were determined for all cases.     

Stereochemical assignments of aldol products of 2‐arylimino‐3‐aryl‐thiazolidine‐4‐ones by 1H NMR

The aldol reactions of 2‐arylimino‐3‐aryl‐thiazolidine‐4‐ones with benzaldehyde carried out at ?78 °C were found to produce sec‐carbinols. Intramolecular hydrogen bonding within the aldol products forming a six‐membered ring enabled the assignment of stereochemistries of the major and minor diastereomers via analysis of the syn and anti ³J_H,H ¹H NMR coupling constants. Identification of radical structures on 1‐pentamethylbenzyl‐3‐ethylimidazoliumsilver(I)bromide and 1,3‐bis(pentamethylbenzyl)‐4,5‐dimethylbenzimidazoliumsilver(I)bromide exposed to gamma rays: an EPR study

1‐Pentamethylbenzyl‐3‐ethylimidazoliumsilver(I)bromide and 1,3‐bis(pentamethylbenzyl)‐4,5dimethylbenzimidazoliumsilver(I)bromide and their Ag⁺ complexes were synthesized and their polycrystal forms were produced by recrystallization in dichloromethane/Et₂O solvent system. Structural determinations were carried out by ¹H NMR and ¹³C NMR with a Varian 400 NMR system using tetramethylsilane as internal standard and CDCl₃ as solvent. The disappearance of acidic N‐heterocyclic carbene proton showed the formation of Ag(I) complexes. Also, elemental analyses were carried out. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurements were performed to determine the formed radical structure on the samples irradiated at the room temperature for 72 h by using ⁶⁰Co‐source with dose rate of 0.680 kGy. The EPR measurements were carried out in the temperature range of 200 K–450 K. Identical radicals were determined on the irradiated compounds. It was observed that the shapes of the spectra of the samples were independent of the temperature but, the resonance line intensities changed linearly with the temperature. Also, it was detected that the free radical on the 1‐pentamethylbenzyl‐3‐ethylimidazoliumsilver(I)bromide is not stable compared to that on the 1,3‐bis(pentamethylbenzyl)‐4,5dimethylbenzimidazoliumsilver(I)bromide. Iodine-Catalyzed Addition of Methyl Thioglycolate to Chalcones

Abstract

A series of novel β-mercapto carbonyl compounds (3a–z), methyl 2-(3-oxo-1,3-diarylpropylthio)acetate, were synthesized and characterized via iodine-catalyzed addition of methyl thioglycolate to chalcones (1a–z).

Four-Component,One-Pot Synthesis of 2-Aryl-4-Thionylquinoline Derivatives and Their Aromatization

Four-component, one-pot condensation of dimedon, thiophene-2-carbaldehyde, ammonium acetate, and numerous acetophenones yielded novel 2-aryl-4-thionylquinoline derivatives. The structures were characterized by ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, IR, and elemental analysis.     

Cyclohexenones Through Regioselective Addition of 1,3-Dicarbonyl Compounds to Terpenoid-Like Bischalcones

Terpenoid-like bischalcones (3 and 4) were synthesized from the reaction of α- and β-ionones and benzaldehydes in excellent yields. The Michael addition of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds to bischalcones (3 and 4) resulted in the formation of cyclohexenones derivatives (10a–d and 14a, b) via regioselective addition of 1,3-dicarbonyls and then cyclization.     

Synthesis and Characterization of New Chalcone Derivatives from cis-Bicyclo[3.2.0]hept-2-en-6-one

A series of chalcone derivatives (3a–k) were prepared via the reaction of cis-bicyclo[3.2.0]hept-2-en-6-one (1) with the respective arylaldehydes (2a–k) and were then characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, and elemental analyses.
