Raman spectroscopy of topotecan, an inhibitor of DNA topoisomerase I

Topotecan (TPT), a water-soluble derivative of camptothecin (inhibitor of human DNA topoiomerase I), has found wide application in cancer chemotherapy. The central problem in using topotecan is the presence of lactone rings in its molecules, which undergo hydrolysis at a physiological pH yielding an inactive and even toxic form of the drug. The analysis of Raman spectra of TPT in H₂O and D₂O solutions made it possible to assign the spectral bands to the vibrations of particular molecular groups. Spectral features indicative of the opening of the lactone rings of the TPT molecules, deprotonation of the hydroxyl groups in their quinoline fragments, and of possible participation of the hydroxyl and carbonyl groups in H bonding are found. The data obtained are necessary to study the molecular mechanisms of TPT-DNA interaction and the formation of ternary complexes between TPT, DNA, and DNA topoisomerase I.

Evolution of Statistical Ensembles of Microdomains on the Surface of Films of Rigid-Chain Polyimide during Thermal Imidization

Statistical ensembles of microdomains formed on the surface of polyimide films based on pyromellitic dianhydride and 2,7-diaminofluorene during thermal imidization were described in terms of the model of reversible aggregation using the electron-microscopic data. Parameters of the statistical distribution were determined for each ensemble depending on the film heating temperature.     

Sorption Properties of Gel Films of Bacterial Cellulose

The structure and sorption properties of gel films of bacterial cellulose were studied in its interaction with polyvinylpyrrolidone and silver nanoparticles stabilized by this compound.     

Observation of difluorinated higher fullerene anions by Knudsen cell mass spectrometry and determination of electron affinities of C60F2 and C70F2

Difluorinated higher fullerenes have been studied by Knudsen cell mass spectrometry. Thermal negative ions C_nF₂⁻ (n=60, 70, 72, 74, 76 and 78) were produced inside the effusion cell as well as the neutral molecules C₆₀F₂ and C₇₀F₂. From the equilibrium constants for the electron exchange reactions between difluorinated fullerenes and their parents electron affinity values were derived for C₆₀F₂ (2.74 eV) and C₇₀F₂ (2.80 eV).
