We study photoproduction of jets and heavy flavors in a polarized collider mode of HERA and in polarized ep collisions at √S ≈ GeV. We examine the sensitivity of the cross sections and their asymmetries to the proton’s polarized gluon distribution and to the completely unknown parton distributions of longitudinally polarized photons.  相似文献

It is shown that modified versions of the MIT bag model can fairly describe non-singlet pieces of experimentally known structure functions if theQ 2-evolution equations are trusted down to the model scale. Further on we utilize these models to study the presently unmeasured transversely polarized structure functionsg 2 andh 1. Using recently developed approximate evolution equations we focus on the relevance of the twist-3 contribution tog 2. We investigated the effect of UV radiation on early signaling events in the response of young tomato plants (Lycopersicon esculentum) to wounding. Ultraviolet-C (< 280 nm) and UVB/UVA (280-390 nm) radiation both induced 48 kDa myelin basic protein kinase activity in leaves. The activation was associated with phosphorylation of tyrosine residues on the kinase, which is indicative of protein kinases of the mitogen-activated protein kinase family. Ultraviolet-C irradiation resulted in a strong proteinase inhibitor synthesis, as reported previously (Conconi et al., Nature 383, 826-829, 1996). Under the conditions used, UVB/UVA radiation did not induce proteinase inhibitor synthesis but resulted in a strong potentiation of systemic proteinase inhibitor synthesis in response to wounding. The UVB/UVA-irradiated plants that were subsequently wounded accumulated 2.5-4-fold higher levels of proteinase inhibitor I when compared to wounded non-irradiated plants. The potentiating effect was most prominent in the systemic unwounded leaf of a wounded plant. Levels of 12-oxo-phytodienoic acid and jasmonic acid that have been well documented to increase in response to wounding were not detected in response to UVB/UVA irradiation alone. The effect of UVB/UVA radiation in potentiating plant defense signaling should be further considered as a factor that may influence the ecological balance between plants and their predators.  相似文献

Gas‐phase oxidation routes of biogenic emissions, mainly isoprene and monoterpenes, in the atmosphere are still the subject of intensive research with special attention being paid to the formation of aerosol constituents. This laboratory study shows that the most abundant monoterpenes (limonene and α‐pinene) form highly oxidized RO2 radicals with up to 12 O atoms, along with related closed‐shell products, within a few seconds after the initial attack of ozone or OH radicals. The overall process, an intramolecular ROO→QOOH reaction and subsequent O2 addition generating a next R′OO radical, is similar to the well‐known autoxidation processes in the liquid phase (QOOH stands for a hydroperoxyalkyl radical). Field measurements show the relevance of this process to atmospheric chemistry. Thus, the well‐known reaction principle of autoxidation is also applicable to the atmospheric gas‐phase oxidation of hydrocarbons leading to extremely low‐volatility products which contribute to organic aerosol mass and hence influence the aerosol–cloud–climate system.  相似文献

Environmental assessment in the wake of a nuclear accident requires the rapid determination of the radiotoxic isotopes 89Sr and 90Sr. Useful measurements must be able to detect 108 atoms in the presence of about 1018 atoms of the stable, naturally occurring isotopes. This paper describes a new approach to this problem using resonance ionization spectroscopy in collinear geometry, combined with classical mass separation. After collection and chemical separation, the strontium from a sample is surface-ionized and the ions are accelerated to an energy of about 30 keV. Initially, a magnetic mass separator provides an isotopic selectivity of about 106. The ions are then neutralized by charge exchange and the resulting fast strontium atoms are selectively excited into high-lying atomic Rydberg states by narrow-band cw laser light in collinear geometry. The Rydberg atoms are then field-ionized and detected. Thus far, a total isotopic selectivity of S > 1010 and an overall efficiency of ξ = 5 × 10−6 have been achieved. The desired detection limit of 108 atoms 90Sr has been demonstrated with synthetic samples.  相似文献

The kinetics of the gas‐phase reactions of O3 with a series of selected terpenes has been investigated under flow‐tube conditions at a pressure of 100 mbar synthetic air at 295 ± 0.5 K. In the presence of a large excess of m‐xylene as an OH radical scavenger, rate coefficients k(O3+terpene) were obtained with a relative rate technique, (unit: cm3 molecule?1 s?1, errors represent 2σ): α‐pinene: (1.1 ± 0.2) × 10?16, 3Δ‐carene: (5.9 ± 1.0) × 10?17, limonene: (2.5 ± 0.3) × 10?16, myrcene: (4.8 ± 0.6) × 10?16, trans‐ocimene: (5.5 ± 0.8) × 10?16, terpinolene: (1.6 ± 0.4) × 10?15 and α‐terpinene: (1.5 ± 0.4) × 10?14. Absolute rate coefficients for the reaction of O3 with the used reference substances (2‐methyl‐2‐butene and 2,3‐dimethyl‐2‐butene) were measured in a stopped‐flow system at a pressure of 500 mbar synthetic air at 295 ± 2 K using FT‐IR spectroscopy, (unit: cm3 molecule?1 s?1, errors represent 2σ ): 2‐methyl‐2‐butene: (4.1 ± 0.5) × 10?16 and 2,3‐dimethyl‐2‐butene: (1.0 ± 0.2) × 10?15.
