Chromatographic and spectroscopic investigation of the associative changes with the selected higher fatty alcohols

An attempt was made to compare usefulness of the ir spectroscopic technique with paper chromatography in the investigations concerning self-association of higher fatty alcohols. A conclusion was drawn that only the complementary application of both analytical methods better enabled to trace the establishing of association equilibria in the given experimental conditions.

Investigation of the association of higher fatty alcohols on a chromatographic paper

Summary An attempt was made to apply a low-activity chromatographic layer (Whatman 2) and a non-polar mobile phase (decalin) in studying the self-association of higher fatty alcohols. The obtained results showed a satisfactory, semi-quantitative agreement with IR spectroscopic data and theoretical considerations and calculations. Usefulness of the complementary paper chromatographic investigations can be considered as complementary investigations when setudying the self-association of higher fatty alcohols.     

Chromatographic examination of hydrophobic properties of isometric ethylphenols and phenylenediamines

Summary A comparison was made of hydrophobic properties of isomeric ethylphenols and phenylenediamines, using adsorption TLC results, which were additionally confirmed by the results of I. R. spectroscopy and theoretical considerations. It was established that hydrophobic properties of the investigated substances changed in accordance with the sequence: ortho>para>meta.     

On the influence of the resonance and inductive effects on the hydrophobicity of the isomeric methylquinolones analyzed by means of RP-HPLC

Summary Hydrophobicity of methylquinolines was compared with their retention data measured on two stationary phases by reversed-phase HPLC, and with the experimental partition coefficients (log P). The influence of the substituent position on the hydrophobicity is discussed and a two-parameter correlation equation is proposed permitting the prediction of the log k values with help of the inductive and resonance effects.     

Chromatographic separation of tocopherols.

alpha-, beta-, gamma-, and delta-Tocopherols were separated by reversed-phase high-performance thin-layer chromatography (C18RP-HPTLC), normal-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (NP-HPLC), reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (C18RP-HPLC), and gas chromatography (GC). The selected topological indices based on connectivity (M, 1chi(v)), on distance matrix (W, (o)B, MTI) and on information theory (I(AC), I(AC)) were calculated for these tocopherols. The observed chromatographic separations of investigated tocopherols were compared. This comparison indicated that the C18RP-HPTLC, NP-HPLC, and GC are the best techniques for the separation of these tocopherols. Topological index (o)B was the most significant. We obtained definite dependence between the numerical values of topological index (o)B and the chromatographic separation of the investigated tocopherols.
