Sorption of uranium, radium, and thorium from saline solutions on hydrolyzed wood lignin

Sorption of U, Ra, and Th from multicomponent aqueous salt solutions on hydrolyzed wood lignin is studied. The mechanism of radionuclide sorption from saline solutions is suggested on the basis of the results of sequential extraction.     

Combination of ion exchange and electrodeposition as a method of separation and preconcentration of U and Th isotopes for their alpha-spectrometric determination in rock,soil and plant

The paper considers the analytical procedure for determination of U and Th isotopes in environmental samples for those cases when coincentrations are on the background levells. The technique includes preconcentration operations with the use of ion-exchange and electrodeposition with the aim to obtain preparations for alpha-spectrometry. The preconcentration allows to use less complicated alpha-spectrometric installations.     

Sorption of uranium, radium, and thorium by analcym-containing rock and sorbents based on plant tissue

Capacity of analcym-containing rock, hydrolytic wood lignin, and sorbents based on oat straw to absorb uranium, radium, and thorium from acid and weakly acid solutions of their salts was studied. Possible sorption mechanisms of radionuclides are considered on the basis of data furnished by IR spectroscopy and method of successive extractions.     

Separation of uranium from soils for its determination

A method has been developed for the determination of microamounts of uranium in soils, which is based on application of the rapid and effective removing of luminescence quenchers from liquid preparations with subsequent uranium determination by laser-induced luminescence registration of its polysilicate complexes. To remove the luminescence quenchers, they were precipitated in strongly basic carbonate medium in the presence of activated charcoal (as a collector of the precipitate).     

Soil factor influence on the plutonium isotope distribution among soil profile layers and mobile forms in the 30 km Chernobyl zone

The results of observation of plutonium isotopes (²³⁸Pu and^239,240Pu) vertical distribution dynamics (including mobile forms) in the profile of peaty-podzol-gley soil within 30 km limits from the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station (ChNPS) are considered. Correlation of the plutonium distribution with some characteristics of the soil layers are discussed.     

Influence of Acidity and Uranyl Nitrate Concentration on the Efficiency of Recovery of Uranium(VI) from Aqueous Solutions with Hydrolytic Wood Lignin

The efficiency of recovery of uranium(VI) from aqueous solutions with hydrolytic lignin and strength of binding of uranium to lignin were studied in relation to the uranium concentration and acidity. The mechanisms of sorption of uranium were analyzed by the methods of sequential leaching of uranium from lignin and IR spectroscopy.
