Halogen oxidation and nitrosylation of some aldimine and ketimine carbonyl complexes of chromium and molybdenum

Summary The halogen oxidation and nitrosylation of cis-[(SB)M-(CO)₄] [M = Cr or Mo, SB = N,N-ethylenebis(p-tolualideneimine), N,N-ethylenebis(p-N,N-dimethylaminobenzalideneimine) or N,N-ethylenebis(methyl-p-methoxyphenylketimine); M = Mo, SB = N,N-ethylenebis-(cinnamylideneimine) or N,N-ethylenebis(methyl-p-methylphenylketimine)] have been studied. Halogenation of [(SB)Cr(CO)₄] yielded [(SB)CrX₂] (X = Cl, Br or I) where-as [(SB)Mo(CO)₄] gave [(SB)Mo(CO)₃X₂] (X = Br or I) and [(SB)MoX _x ] (X = I, n = 2; X = Cl or Br, n = 4). NOCl produced [(SB)Cr(NO)₂Cl₂] and [(SB)Mo(CO)₂(NO)Cl] when reacted with the corresponding [(SB)M(CO)₄]. The complexes were characterized by physico-chemical and spectroscopic measurements.     

Chaotic Expansion of Elements of the Universal Enveloping Algebra of a Lie Algebra Associated with a Quantum Stochastic Calculus

The functional Ito formula, in the form df() = f( + d ) –f(),is formulated and proved in the context of a Lie algebra L associatedwith a quantum (non-commutative) stochastic calculus. Here fis an element of the universal enveloping algebra U of L, andf() + d() – f() is given a meaning using the coproductstructure of U even though the individual terms of this expressionhave no meaning. Cation-exchange separation and determination of silver in admixture with mercury(II)

Cation-exchange separation of silver from mercury(II), copper(II), cobalt(II), nickel and zinc, based on the differences in the stability constants of the complexes formed by these elements with EDTA at pH 4.6, is described. Silver is eluted with 16% nitric acid and is determined by Volhard's method.     

Schiff-base derivatives of molybdenum carbonyl

Summary Reactions of five Schiff bases (SB),viz.,N,N-ethylenebis(benzalideneimine) (SB¹),N,N-ethylenebis(p-anisylideneimine) (SB²),N,N-ethylenebis(methylphenylketimine) (SB³),N,N-ethylenebis(diphenylketimine) (SB⁴) andN,N-ethylenebis (salicylideneimine) (SB⁵) with molybdenum hexacarbonyl have been studied. The first four Schiff bases yieldcis-disubstituted derivatives whereas a non-carbonyl complex is obtained for the last one (SB⁵). [(Ph₃E)Mo(CO)₅] (E = P or As) after reaction with SB give SB-bridged dinuclear [(Ph₃E)(CO)₄Mo--(SB)-Mo(CO)₄(Ph₃E)] derivatives. Halogen-oxidation and nitrosylation ofcis-[(SB)Mo(CO)₄] have also been studied.     

Aminocyclophosphazene derivatives of molybdenum carbonyl

Summary Reactions of aminated cyclotri-and tetraphosphazenes,viz., N₃P₃L₆ and N₄P₄L₈ (L=–NC₅H₁₀, –NC₄H₈O and –HNC₆H₁₁) with Mo(CO)₆ have been studied. N₃P₃L₆ yield (N₃P₃L₆)Mo(CO)₃ derivatives, whereas tetracarbonyl substituted derivatives, (N₄P₄L₈)Mo(CO)₄, are obtained with N₄P₄L₈. Several mixed derivatives of both cyclotri- and tetra-phosphazenes have been synthesised with (o-phen)Mo(CO)₄.
