The Aharonov-Bohm effect (ABE) for steady magnetic fields is a well known phenomenon. However, if the current in the infinite solenoid that creates the magnetic field is time-dependent, that is in the presence of both magnetic and electric fields, there is no agreement whether the effect would be present. In this note, we try to investigate time varying ABE by a direct calculation in a set-up with a weak time dependent magnetic field. We find that the electric field arising out of the time-varying magnetic field in the path of the electrons does not enter the action integral but only changes the path of the electron from the source to the slits and then on to the detector. We find a frequency dependent AB phase shift. At low frequencies the result smoothly approaches the one for a constant field as the frequency tends towards zero. On the other hand, for high frequencies such that the AB-phase induced in the path of the wave packet oscillates rapidly, the net effect will be very small which is borne out by our results.  相似文献

The human KDM7 subfamily histone H3 Nϵ-methyl lysine demethylases PHF8 (KDM7B) and KIAA1718 (KDM7A) have different substrate selectivities and are linked to genetic diseases and cancer. We describe experimentally based computational studies revealing that flexibility of the region linking the PHD finger and JmjC domains in PHF8 and KIAA1718 regulates interdomain interactions, the nature of correlated motions, and ultimately H3 binding and demethylation site selectivity. F279S an X-linked mental retardation mutation in PHF8 is involved in correlated motions with the iron ligands and second sphere residues. The calculations reveal key roles of a flexible protein environment in productive formation of enzyme-substrate complexes and suggest targeting the flexible KDM7 linker region is of interest from a medicinal chemistry perspective.  相似文献

Previous all-atom simulations have identified several classes of proteins where hydrophobic de-wetting (cavitation) is at play. Here we develop and validate a computationally fast method that predicts in which protein systems water spontaneously cavitates. We implement a cubic lattice model, which incorporates the protein shape from crystallographic data and the protein-water interactions from thermodynamic data. Combining it with the previously developed coarse-grained model for water, we determine the extent of occupancy of water at protein-protein interfaces and in protein-ligand cavities. The model captures essential findings from all-atom molecular dynamics studies on the same systems by distinguishing protein cavities that dry from those that remain wet. We also interpret the origin of the cavitation inside the melittin tetramer on simple thermodynamic grounds, and show that part of the mellitin surface is sufficiently hydrophobic to trigger cavitation. Using Glauber/Kawasaki dynamics we obtain the time-scales for de-wetting events that are in agreement with those from all-atom simulations. The method can serve as an intermediate step between the necessary initial screening that identifies proteins with abundance of hydrophobic patches using bioinformatics tools (L. Hua, X. H. Huang, P. Liu, R. H. Zhou and B. J. Berne, J. Phys. Chem. B, 2007, 111, 9069), and computationally extensive studies that need to incorporate molecular details (e.g. single mutation studies of amino acid residues).  相似文献

Invariant manifolds are important constructs for the quantitative and qualitative understanding of nonlinear phenomena in dynamical systems. In nonlinear damped mechanical systems, for instance, spectral submanifolds have emerged as useful tools for the computation of forced response curves, backbone curves, detached resonance curves (isolas) via exact reduced-order models. For conservative nonlinear mechanical systems, Lyapunov subcenter manifolds and their reduced dynamics provide a way to identify nonlinear amplitude–frequency relationships in the form of conservative backbone curves. Despite these powerful predictions offered by invariant manifolds, their use has largely been limited to low-dimensional academic examples. This is because several challenges render their computation unfeasible for realistic engineering structures described by finite element models. In this work, we address these computational challenges and develop methods for computing invariant manifolds and their reduced dynamics in very high-dimensional nonlinear systems arising from spatial discretization of the governing partial differential equations. We illustrate our computational algorithms on finite element models of mechanical structures that range from a simple beam containing tens of degrees of freedom to an aircraft wing containing more than a hundred–thousand degrees of freedom.

Gesture recognition has been implemented in many systems for different purposes. The way it is used can be different from system to system. Few used them as touch objects using sensors while few use them as pointing object where the camera is in front of the hand, but the location is being pointed by human, can be detected only if the camera is behind that person. This paper presents an automatic system to detect the location on the wall where the user is currently pointing by his hand. This is done with the detection of head and both hands. The shoulders and elbows’ locations are identified using geometry analysis to understand the current gesture of the human and finally the direction where user hand is pointing would be detected. The face was detected using Haar classifier and shoulders were estimated using the rectangle method near the head. This method does not work in poor illumination conditions and is made to detect only one person at a time. Also user is supposed to wear half sleeve or sleeveless shirt for the better segmentation.  相似文献
