Amino acids and peptides. XIII. Synthetic studies on N-terminal tripeptide amide analogs of fibrin alpha-chain

N-Terminal tripeptide analogs of fibrin alpha-chain were synthesized and their inhibitory effect on fibrinogen/thrombin clotting was examined. A new water-soluble active ester, 3-pyridinium ester, was used for the synthesis. Among the synthetic peptides, H-Gly-Pro-Arg-hexamethyleneimine exhibited the highest inhibitory effect on fibrinogen-thrombin clotting.     

Inflation model with lower multipoles of the CMB suppressed

The recent observation of the cosmic microwave background anisotropy by the WMAP confirmed that the lower multipoles are considerably suppressed. From the standpoint of the cosmic variance, it is nothing but a statistical accident. Alternatively, one can attribute the deficit of fluctuation on the large scale to the cosmic history, which might be explained in the context of the inflationary physics. In this Letter, we show that it is possible to explain the suppressed lower multipoles in the hybrid new inflation model.     

Comments on the evolution of strongly degenerate neutrinos in the early universe

We reconsider the evolution of strongly degenerate neutrinos in the early universe. Our chief concern is the validity of the entropy conservation after the neutrino annihilation process has frozen out (so that the establishment of chemical equilibrium is not trivial). We argue that the entropy indeed conserves because elastic scattering keeps the neutrino and antineutrino distribution functions in the equilibrium form and the sum of their chemical potential keeps zero even after the neutrino annihilation freeze-out. We also simulate the evolution of the degenerate neutrino spectrum to support the argument. We conclude that the change in the neutrino degeneracy parameter when the relativistic degrees of freedom in the universe decreases is calculated using the entropy conservation and the lepton number conservation without worrying about at what temperature the neutrino annihilation process freezes out.     

One step synthesis of 2-substituted 3-tri-(or di-)fluoromethyl-2-propenals in an ionic liquid

Investigation of one step synthesis of 2-substituted 3-tri-(or di-)fluoromethyl-2-propenals has been carried out using versatile aldehydes, tri- or di-fluoroacetaldehyde ethyl hemiacetal in the presence of diethylaminotrimethylsilane (DEATMS) in an ionic liquid, and it was demonstrated that this route enabled us to successfully construct 2-substituted 3-tri-(or di-)fluoromethyl-2-propenals with the high level selectivity of geometric isomers.     

Interfacial adsorption state of protonated lipophilic porphyrins in a liquid-liquid system by using reflection spectrometry.

Analysis by reflection spectrometry was performed to clarify the interfacial adsorption of protonated lipophilic tetraphenylporphyrin derivatives in a dodecane-aqueous sulfuric acid system, and to confirm the utility of partial reflection spectroscopy. Interfacial adsorption was not observed for porphyrins substituted at the 2,6 positions of meso-phenyl groups, suggesting that the substituents prevent porphyrins from forming aggregates by steric hindrance. Polymorphous J-aggregates of acid dications were produced by tetra-p-tolylporphyrin with a saturated interfacial molecular density of 1.0 x 10(-10) mol cm(-2), which could yield 48 degrees as a mean tilting angle of the pyrrole ring plane from the interface normal. Partial-reflection spectrometry can provide sensitive detection and molecular orientation analysis of interfacial adsorbates.     

Acoustic characteristics of Ni–Nb–Zr–H glassy alloys by ultrasonic shear waves

The propagation characteristics of shear horizontally polarized (SH) waves passing through (Ni₄₂Nb₂₈Zr₃₀)_100–x H_x (x = 0–15.2) glassy alloys were investigated as a function of hydrogen content. With an increase in hydrogen content, the propagation time and main frequency of the receiving waves show increase and decrease, respectively, indicating expan‐ sion in average atomic distance which comes from solution of hydrogen. In sharp contrast to crystalline alloys, the decrease in damping ratio and the delay in phase with increasing hydrogen suggest a strong settlement of hydrogen into four‐coordination sites surrounded tetrahedrally by four Zr atoms and the resulting increase in dynamic elasticity, respectively. Projector formalism of generalized Brownian motion theory applied to dissipative and noisy systems

The projector formalism of Zwanzig-Mori type is extended to obtain generalized Fokker-Planck and generalized nonlinear Langevin equations for coarse-grained variables when the underlying microscopic dynamics is dissipative and noisy (stochastic).     

Synthesis and chiroptical properties of optically active poly(ethynylcarbazole) derivatives: Substituent effect on the helix formation

Novel chiral acetylene monomers containing carbazole, 2‐ethynyl‐9‐[(S)‐2‐methylbutoxycarbonyl]carbazole ( 1 ), 3‐ethynyl‐9‐[(S)‐2‐methylbutoxycarbonyl]carbazole ( 2 ), 2‐ethynyl‐9‐[(S)‐2‐methylbutyl]carbazole ( 3 ), and 2‐ethynyl‐9‐[(S)‐4‐methylhexyl]carbazole ( 4 ) were synthesized and polymerized with [(nbd)RhCl]₂? Et₃N. The corresponding polyacetylenes with number‐average molecular weights ranging from 68,700 to 310,000 were obtained in good yields. Poly( 1 ) exhibited a large specific rotation and an intense Cotton effect in toluene, indicating that it formed a helix with predominantly one‐handed screw sense, while the other three polymers showed no evidence for taking a helical structure. Poly( 1 ) largely decreased the CD intensity upon heating from ?10 to 60 °C. Poly( 1 ) showed a Cotton effect in film state in a manner similar to solution state. No chiral amplification was observed in the copolymerization of 1 with achiral 2‐ethynyl‐9‐tert‐butoxycarbonylcarbazole ( 5 ). © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Preparation of a cyclodextrin dimer linked with a bis(picolinyl)cystine moiety and its intra- and intermolecular inclusion behavior

A novel cyclodextrin (CD) dimer linked with a bis(picolinyl)cystine (Cys) moiety was prepared by the coupling of Boc-protected Cys with amino-modified CDs, followed by deprotection of the Boc groups and bispicolinylation. The dimer showed less affinity to an organic guest molecule compared to that of a native CD monomer. It was attributed to an intramolecular inclusion of the pyridine moiety into CD cavity. The dimer caused significant increase of its organic guest affinity by an addition of a copper ion. The included pyridine group may come out of a CD cavity to bind the copper ion and the two CDs included cooperatively and intermolecularly a guest molecule with high affinity.     

The upper and lower second order directional derivatives of a sup-type function

The purpose of this paper is to give a formula for expressing the second order directional derivatives of the sup-type functionS(x) = sup{f(x, t); t T} in terms of the first and second derivatives off(x, t), whereT is a compact set in a metric space and we assume thatf, f/x and ² f/x ² are continuous on ⁿ × T. We will give a geometrical meaning of the formula. We will moreover give a sufficient condition forS(x) to be directionally twice differentiable.
