Physico-chemical studies on thermal analyses of sodium hexa/carboxylato/ferrates/III/

The thermolysis of sodium hexa/benzoato/ferrate/III/, i. e. Na₃[Fe/C₆H₅COO/₆].4.5H₂O has been investigated at different temperatures in air using Mössbauer, infrared spectroscopic and derivatographic techniques /DTG, DTA, TG/. The thermal decomposition proceeds without the reduction of iron/III/. An increase in particle size of -Fe₂O₃ formed during thermolysis has been observed with increasing temperature. The end product, -NaFeO₂ is formed as a result of the solid state reaction between -Fe₂O₃ and sodium carbonate.

Condensation of uracil derivatives (1,3,4) with acetone in the presence of triethylamine gave pyranopyrimidines (2,5,6).     

Studies on 1,10-Phenanthroline Complexes of Some Hydroxyaryltellurium Trihalides

The synthesis and structural features of some newly synthesized 1,10-phenanthroline complexes of p-hydroxyphenyl-and 3-methyl-4-hydroxyphenyltellurium trihalides (chlorides, bromides, and iodides) are reported. The resulting complexes have been subjected to elemental analyses, conductance and cryoscopic measurements, infra-red and proton magnetic resonance spectral studies. Solution studies reveal the weak to 1:1 electrolyte type behavior of these complexes in solution. Spectral studies indicate the linkage of phenanthroline to the tellurium atom through the nitrogen atoms. Central tellurium atom in these complexes is hexa-coordinated in an octahedral way.     

rmpM Genosensor for Detection of Human Brain Bacterial Meningitis in Cerebrospinal Fluid

Human brain bacterial meningitis is a life-threatening disease caused mainly by Neisseria meningitidis, lead to damage of the outer membrane covering (meninges) of brain or even death. The usual methods of diagnosis are either time-consuming or have some limitations. The specific rmpM (reduction-modifiable protein M) virulent gene based genosensor is more sensitive, specific, and can detect N. meningitidis directly from the patient cerebrospinal fluid in 30 min including 1-min response time. 5′-Thiol-labeled single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) probe was immobilized onto screen-printed gold electrode (SPGE) and hybridized with denatured (95 °C) single-stranded genomic DNA (ssG-DNA) for 10 min at 25 °C. The electrochemical response was measured by cyclic voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and electrochemical impedance using redox indicators. The sensitivity of the genosensor was 9.5087?(μA/cm²)/ng with DPV and limit of detection was 3 ng/6 μL ssG-DNA. The immobilization of the ssDNA probe and hybridization with ssG-DNA from N. meningitidis was characterized by atomic force microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The rmpM genosensor was stable for 6 months at 4 °C with 10 % loss in initial DPV current. The advantage of rmpM genosensor is to detect bacterial meningitis simultaneously in multiple patients using SPGE array during an outbreak of the disease.

Display of tilt information of vibrating object in time average mode using lateral shearing interferometry and interferometric grating

We have experimentally demonstrated vibration analysis of a reflecting object in time-average mode using shearing interferometry and interferometric grating. Experimental results show that time-average moiré fringes, formed between fringe pattern reflected from object and sinusoidal grating are modulated spatially by the amplitude of vibrating tilt. From the experimental results, information regarding tilt of vibrating objects can be determined.     

Non-linearity parameter B/A of binary liquid mixtures at elevated pressures

When sound waves of high amplitude propagate, several non-linear effects occur. Ultrasonic studies in liquid mixtures provide valuable information about structure and interaction in such systems. The present investigation comprises of theoretical evaluation of the acoustic non-linearity parameter B/A of four binary liquid mixtures using Tong and Dong equation at high pressures and T=303.15 K. Thermodynamic method has also been used to calculate the non-linearity parameter after making certain approximations.     

Influence of power-law index on transitional Reynolds numbers for flow over a semi-circular cylinder

In this work, the governing partial differential equations (continuity and Cauchy’s momentum equations) describing the flow of power-law type non-Newtonian fluids across a semi-circular cylinder (oriented with its curved surface in the upstream direction) have been solved numerically. In particular, consideration has been given to the delineation of the critical Reynolds numbers denoting the onset of flow separation from the surface of the cylinder and the onset of the laminar vortex shedding regime. This information is germane to establish the scaling of the macroscopic characteristics like drag coefficient and Strouhal number on the governing parameters, namely, Reynolds number and power-law index. The present results clearly suggest that the transitional Reynolds numbers show a strong dependence on the type (shear-thinning and shear-thickening) of fluid behavior as well as on the severity of the shear-dependence of the viscosity. With reference to the behavior seen in Newtonian fluids, the flow remains not only attached to the surface up to higher Reynolds numbers, but shear-thinning behavior also delays the onset of the laminar vortex shedding regime. As expected, shear-thickening fluids, of course, display the opposite characteristics.
