Synthesis of Ajoene Analogues by Novel Synthetic Strategies

Ajoene is a compound found in garlic extracts exhibiting a large range of biological activity. Novel ajoene analogues have been prepared in the search of compounds with superior bioactivity. Modifications include the alteration of the sulfoxide, the central alkene and the terminal allyl groups.     

Synthesis,Chemical Characterization,DNA Interaction and Antioxidant,Studies of New Nitrosubstituted Thioureas and Their Copper Complexes

In the present work new nitro substituted thioureas, and their copper complexes have been synthesized and characterized by FTIR and multinuclear NMR techniques. Some of the compounds namely 1‐benzoyl‐3‐(4‐chloro‐3‐nitrophenyl) thiourea (A‐1), 1‐benzoyl‐3‐(4‐chloro‐3‐nitrophenyl) thiourea (A‐2) and 1‐benzoyl‐3‐(2‐methoxy‐4‐nitrophenyl) thiourea (A‐2) have also been characterized by single crystal XRD. All the synthesized compounds have been screened for DNA binding potencies (using cyclic voltametry, UV‐vis spectroscopy) and free radical scavanging activities.     

Inequalities Concerning The Maximum Modulus of Polynomials

Let P(z) be a polynomial of degree n having all its zeros in |z|≤k, k ≤1, then for every real or complex number β, with |β|≤ 1 and R ≥ 1, it was shown by A.Zireh et al. [7] that for |z|=1,min|z|=1|P(Rz)+β((R+k)/(1+k))~nP(z)|≥k~(-n)|R~n+β((R+k)/(1+k))~n|min|z|=k|P(z)|.In this paper, we shall present a refinement of the above inequality. Besides, we shall also generalize some well-known results.     

Jeans' gravitational instability of a thermally conducting plasma

The gravitational instability of an infinitely extending homogenous plasma endowed with several physical mechanisms, namely Hall currents, finite conductivity, ion viscosity and thermal conductivity is considered. The main result is that the various parameters play different physical roles in the perturbed problem. Jeans' criterion is analyzed in the framework of Tsallis' statistics for possible modifications due to the presence of nonextensive effects. A simple generalization of the Jeans' criterion is obtained and the standard values are obtained in the limiting case q=1, q being the nonextensive parameter.     

Short Total Synthesis of Ajoene

We describe a short total synthesis of ajoene, a major biologically active constituent of garlic. The instability of allicin as the only other known alternative starting material has led to the development of a reliable procedure for the synthesis of ajoene from simple building blocks that is also suitable for upscale operations.     

Step-wise laser excitation of the 4snf 3F Rydberg states of neutral zinc

The new experimental results on the effective quantum numbers and term energies of the highly excited odd-parity 4s4d ³D_1,2,3 →4snf ³F_2,3,4 Rydberg transitions of zinc have been presented. The experiment was performed using the three dye lasers simultaneously pumped by the second harmonic (532?nm) of the Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. The new observation includes the 4snf ³F₃ (12?≤n?≤?50) series excited from the 4s4d ³D₂ intermediate level. In addition, the 4snf ³F₂ (12?≤n?≤?28) and 4snf³F₄ (12?≤n?≤?33) series are observed from the thermally populated 4s4d ³D_1,3 fine structure components. The ionization potential of zinc has been determined from the unperturbed 4snf ³F₃ series as 75769.31?±?0.15?cm^?1, which is in excellent agreement with the previously reported value.     

Short Total Synthesis of Ajoene, (E,Z)-4,5,9-Trithiadodeca-1,6,11-triene 9-oxide,in Batch and (E,Z)-4,5,9-Trithiadodeca-1,7,11-triene in Continuous Flow

A short total synthesis of ajoene, (E,Z)-4,5,9-trithiadodeca-1,6,11-triene 9-oxide, has been achieved over six steps. In addition, a continuous flow synthesis under mild reaction conditions to (E,Z)-4,5,9-trithiadodeca-1,7,11-triene is described starting from simple and easily accessible starting materials. Over four steps including propargylation, radical addition of thioacetate, deprotection, and disulfide formation/ allylation, the target product can be obtained at a rate of 0.26 g h⁻¹ in an overall yield of 12 %.     

Single Unit Cell Bismuth Tungstate Layers Realizing Robust Solar CO2 Reduction to Methanol

Solar CO₂ reduction into hydrocarbons helps to solve the global warming and energy crisis. However, conventional semiconductors usually suffer from low photoactivity and poor photostability. Here, atomically‐thin oxide‐based semiconductors are proposed as excellent platforms to overcome this drawback. As a prototype, single‐unit‐cell Bi₂WO₆ layers are first synthesized by virtue of a lamellar Bi‐oleate intermediate. The single‐unit‐cell thickness allows 3‐times larger CO₂ adsorption capacity and higher photoabsorption than bulk Bi₂WO₆. Also, the increased conductivity, verified by density functional theory calculations and temperature‐dependent resistivities, favors fast carrier transport. The carrier lifetime increased from 14.7 to 83.2 ns, revealed by time‐resolved fluorescence spectroscopy, which accounts for the improved electron‐hole separation efficacy. As a result, the single‐unit‐cell Bi₂WO₆ layers achieve a methanol formation rate of 75 μmol g^?1 h^?1, 125‐times higher than that of bulk Bi₂WO₆. The catalytic activity of the single‐unit‐cell layers proceeds without deactivation even after 2 days. This work will shed light on designing efficient and robust photoreduction CO₂ catalysts.
